Whitfield

Whitfield is a well built 6-foot 195-pound switch hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.82 home to first and a 7.90 60.  He had an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable from both sides, pre pitch rhythm in hands, minimal load, in line stride, slightly longer swing from left side with pull approach, works gap to gap from right side, slight lift in bat path during finish.  Behind the plate, staggered set up with thing base, over the top arm slot, mostly accurate throws, 70 mph positional velocity, 2.04 to 2.08-second pop times. On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, aggressive and quick the ball with footwork, clean exchanges with mostly accurate throws. 

2/16/19 – Whitfield is a 6-foot, 200-pound switch hitting catcher and corner infield prospect in Kansas’ 2020 class. At the event he ran a 7.90 60 and posted an exit velocity of 82 mph. During hitting evaluations Whitfield showed the ability to hit from both sides of the plate. From the left side Whitefield is slightly across his body with his stride, balanced body, lift, high finish with hands, while from the right side he has an in line stride, quicker bat, some rhythm with hands and drove the ball to left field during batting practice. Behind the plate, fluid foot work, clean transfers, over the top arm slot, positional velo of 70 mph, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.00 and 2.34 seconds. On the infield, Whitefield is aggressive to the baseball, clean transfers, positional velo of 72 mph, very accurate throws.

8/12/18 - Whitfield is a 5-foot-11 175-pound switch-hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 8.20 60 and a 4.78 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, similar swing from both side, balanced stance, level path from the right side, slight lift from the left side, hands separate from stride, loose whip with bat path, hard line drives from middle to pull side from right side, more pull from left side.  Behind the plate, 75 mph positional velocity, 2.09 to 2.25 pop times, wide set up, over the top release, aggressive with momentum, clean transfer on time with footwork, somewhat accurate thrower during defensive evals.

10/22/17 - Whitfield is a 5-foot-10 175-pound switch hitting catcher and first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 5.18 home to first and a 8.05 60.  He has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall set up, smooth load, hands walk away from stride, level bat path, quick bat speed, gap to gap approach.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.28 and 2.35-seconds, 68 mph positional velo, aggressive over the top release, wide set up, momentum through the catch, loose arm action, clean exchange on time with footwork. At first base, 67 mph positional velocity, over the top release, reverse pivot to throw to second, fluid footwork on time with clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

6/20/17 - Whitfield is a 5-foot-11 172-pound switch-hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 8.28 60 and a 5.40 home to first.  He has a 72 mph exit velo. At the plate, swing produced mostly middle of the field line drives during batting practice, wide base in stance, controlled load into back side, level path, loose hands, feel for the barrel.  Behind the plate, 2.07 to 2.18 pop times, 72 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick feet with on time exchange in hands, momentum through the throw, moves well behind the plate to block, mostly accurate throws with carry to the bag. On the mound, Whitfield has an over the top release, controlled delivery, throws with regular effort, athletic finish, fastball at 67-69 mph, works both sides of plate, 56-61 curveball, gradual 12-to-6 action,
