Top Prospect Games - MOKAN: Catchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Top Prospect Games - MOKAN at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg on August 12.  Over sixty players attended in the 2020-2019 class. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the catchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

The catchers group included four catchers from the 2019 class, and four catchers from the 2020 class.  Two were switch hitters, three hitters had exit velos of 88 or better, with two at 90 mph or better.  Five had pop times of 2.0 or better, six had a positional velocity of 75 mph or better. Two catchers had a 60 of 7.01 or faster.

Zach Dillman C / RHP / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2020

Dillman is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.53 60 and a 4.56 home to first.  He has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, swing produced consistent line drives to left center, some with pop, smooth load to back side, in line stride, aggressive bat speed, repeated swing, showed feel for the barrel. Behind the plate, 75 mph positional velocity, 1.97 to 2.13-second pop times, wide set up in base, quick transfer, over the top arm slot, mostly accurate throws with aggressive momentum through the plate.

Gus Freeman C / OF / Blue Valley North, KS / 2019

Freeman is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.01 60 and a 4.21 home to first.  He has a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load to back side with minimal and load, quiet and repeatable, body stays under control, level and loose path, short to contact with gap to gap line drives during hitting evals.  Behind the plate, 75 mph positional velocity, 1.97 to 2.03 pop times, consistent and quick catch and throw, high three quarters arms slot, feet on time with exchange, wide set up with flexibility to sit low, mostly accurate throws to the bag, some with carry.

Brett Grupe C / SS / Smith Cotton, MO / 2020

Grupe is a 5-foot-10 159-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.32 60 and a 4.53 home to first.  He has a 74 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in balanced set up, minimal load with no wasted movement, attacks ball, level path, short in line stride, works inside the ball with hands, consistent line drives gap to gap.  Behind the plate, 75 mph positional velocity, 2.01 to 2.14 pop times, over the top release, clean exchange, wide set up in base, moves well to block, exchange is on time with footwork, throws are in line to the bag.

Brayden Hudson C / OF / Harrisburg , MO / 2020

Hudson is a 5-foot-6 140-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 6.78 60 and a 4.34 home to first.  He has an 88 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced set up, pre-pitch rhythm in hands, short toe tap to stride, quick and level swing path, compact swing, sprayed line drives to both gaps.  Behind the plate, staggered and thin set up in base, over the top release, quick catch and throw, clean exchange, quick feet, some accuracy to throws, occasional carry, quick twitch actions with bat and behind the plate, plays with high engine. 

Beckett Rasmussen C / OF / Louisburg , KS / 2019

Rasmussen is a 5-foot-11 180-pound switch-hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.35 60 and a 4.46 home to first.   He has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up from both sides, quicker tempo from left side, leg lift to in line stride, slightly load with weight shift to back side, pre-pitch rhythm in hands, gap to gap approach, slightly more pull side line drives form left side.  Behind the plate, 74 mph positional velocity, 1.97 to 2.13-second pop times, over the top release, feet create momentum through the plate, wide base, quick transfer, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.

Nolan Saale C / OF / Platte County , MO / 2019

Saale is a 6-foot 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.46 60 and a 4.84 home to first.  He has an 81 ph exit velocity. At the plate,  starts with open stance, minimal load with no wasted movement, in line stride, level path, hands work inside the ball, mostly middle of the field contact.  Behind the plate, 72 mph positional velocity, 2.26-2.40 pop times, wide set up in base, clean exchange, stays under control, short over the top arm slot, throws have carry to bag, mostly accurate, lean build.

 

Spencer Whitfield C / 1B / McPherson, KS / 2020

Whitfield is a 5-foot-11 175-pound switch-hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 8.20 60 and a 4.78 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, similar swing from both side, balanced stance, level path from the right side, slight lift from the left side, hands separate from stride, loose whip with bat path, hard line drives from middle to pull side from right side, more pull from left side.  Behind the plate, 75 mph positional velocity, 2.09 to 2.25 pop times, wide set up, over the top release, aggressive with momentum, clean transfer on time with footwork, somewhat accurate thrower during defensive evals.

Noah Wooldridge C / 2B / Willard, MO / 2019

Wooldrige is a 5-foot-9 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.39 60 and a 5.09 home to first.  He had a 95 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in crouched position in legs, strong lower half, reverse toe tap, pre-pitch rhythm in hands, works against back side to load, level and loose path, mostly pull side line drives, flashes power.  Behind the plate, pop times between 1.99 and 2.10-seconds, 81 mph positional velocity, sits low with flexibility, over the top arm slot, quick transfer with feet creating momentum through the plate, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.
