STL Force Scout Day: Infield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the STL Force Scout Day on January 25 at the STL Force training facility, Champions Village, in Fenton, MO. Fourty players attended the event, with the majority of players in the 2023 and 2024 classes.

Today, we will take a look at the infielders from the day, many from a talented 2024 class.  Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. Players listed below are in alphabetical order.

INFIELDERS

 

Nicholas Alagna OF / SS / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2024

Alagna is a 5-foot-3 100-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 5.03 home to first and had a 68 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, shifts weight slightly to back leg to load with toe tap on front toe, short in line stride, quiet hands, repeats swing, gap to gap approach. On the infield, 64 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork to the ball, fields ball in athletic position.

Dominic Anselmo C / 3B / Marquette, MO / 2024

Anselmo is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 4.69 home to first and had an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, minimal load and hand movement, toe tap to in line stride, loose hand with quick bat speed, showed the ability to hit to both gaps, simple and repeatable. On the infield, short over the top arm slot, quick transfer and throw, fluid footwork to the ball, soft hands, 71 mph positional velocity.

Logan Cowick 3B / RHP / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2024

Cowick is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 4.57 home to first and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, pre swing rhythm in hands, starts hand high, short in line stride, some lift to path with high finish, works ball gap to gap.  On the infield, over the top arm slot, short arm circle, stays under control, clean exchanges, 70 mph positional velocity.

Chase DeQuasie SS / RHP / Columbia, IL / 2024

DeQuasie is a long and slender 5-foot-6 130-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Illinois’ 2024 class. He ran a 4.89 home to first and had a 68 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, subtle weight shift in lower half, in line stride, gap to gap approach, has range in swing, hands control the barrel, loose hands. On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, fluid actions with footwork, clean transfer and throw, plays through the ball, 69 mph positional velocity.

Jacob Frost 1B / LHP / Oakville , MO / 2021

Frost is a well built 6-foot-2 210-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 4.25 home to first and has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and open stance, loads into back leg, aggressive towards the ball with in leg kick and in line stride, quick hands, hits with leverage to middle of the field and pull side.  On the infield, moves well to the ball with quick feet, clean exchange, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm, made all throws cleanly, 85 mph on the infield.

Tommy Gibbar OF / 3B / Seckman, MO / 2024

Gibbar is a 5-foot-7 150-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 4.64 home to first and had a 75 mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide base, minimal stride, gathers with weight shift in back side, bat path has some lift, middle to pull side approach. On the infield, 63 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive to the ball, clean transfer and throw.

Cayden Gibson C / 2B / Lutheran St. Charles , MO / 2024

Gibson is a 5-foot-3 125-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 4.78 home to first and has a 71 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts closed, leg kick to load, stays against back side, slight rotation, lands slightly closed, level path through the hitting zone, high finish, one handed finish at times, stays balanced, mostly middle of the field contact during hitting evals. On the infield, 65 mph positional velocity, works behind and through the ball, fluid footwork, clean transfer, high three quarters arm slot, soft hands.

Maloy Heaghney SS / 2B / Eureka , MO / 2023

Heagney is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed shortstop in Missouri’s 2023 class.  He ran a 4.32 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, minimal load, controlled in line stride, simple and repeatable swing, showed ability to hit to all fields, stays balanced, hand controlled the barrel. On the infield, arm will work from different slots, over the top on routine play, clean actions with fluid footwork, controlled to the ball, 77 mph positional velocity.

Tavion Johnson 3B / SS / Parkway North, MO / 2024

Johnson is a 5-foot-9 150-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class.  He ran a 4.44 home to first and had a 73 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, loads with hands, minimal stride, hands create a level path through contact, no wasted movement in swing, balanced, gap to gap line drives. On the infield, over the top arm slot, quick to the ball, clean transfer, 66 mph positional velocity.

Aiden Masidonski LHP / 1B / Columbia , IL / 2024

Masidonski is a lean 5-foot-11 137-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Illinois’ 2024 class. He ran a 4.69 home to first and had a 65 mph exit velocity. In the outfield, balanced set up, loads with lower half, in line stride, worked inside of ball at times, gap to gap approach. On the infield, over the top arm slot, quick to the ball with quick catch and throw, clean transfer, 68 mph positional velocity.

Jake Mcghee 1B / LHP / CBC, MO / 2024

McGhee is a 5-foot-5 135-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 4.34 home to first and had an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, creates pre-swing rhythm in hands, loads with hands walking away from stride, level path, feel for the barrel, showed the ability to hit to all fields with barrel control, loose and accelerated hands, has range in swing. On the infield, aggressive to the ball, quick transfer and throw, gains ground with footwork during exchange, 79 mph positional velocity.

Connor Mendell C / 2B / Fort Zumwalt South, MO / 2024

Mendell is a 5-foot-8 135-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 4.56 home to first and had a 70 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts slightly open, minimal load, controlled in line stride, simple and repeatable swing, showed ability to hit to all fields, stays balanced, hand controlled the barrel. On the infield, short over the top arm slot, quick transfer and throw, fluid footwork to the ball, soft hands, 76 mph positional velocity.

Drake Myers LHP / 1B / Eureka, MO / 2021

Myers is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 4.90 home to first and has a an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts loaded in back leg, minimal hand movement, controlled body, hands control the bat head, showed ability to hit to both gaps during hitting evals.  On the infield, fields ball in athletic position, fluid exchange on time with footwork, over the top release, gains ground through the catch, 79 mph positional velocity.

Avery Oravetz RHP / SS / Lafayette , MO / 2023

Oravetz is a 5-foot-8 146-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2023 class.  He ran a 4.53 home to first and had a 75 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable, balances set up, smooth load, starts with bat on shoulder, loads with stride, controlled leg lift, level bat path, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, quick to the ball with footwork, soft hands, quick transfer and throw, arm works, high three quarters arm slot, smooth actions, 78 mph positional velocity.

Derrick Pitts OF / 3B / CBC, MO / 2024

Pitts is a 5-foot-6 135-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class.  He ran a 4.88 home to first and had a 68 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable, square stance in lower half with pre-pitch rhythm, small and controlled load, in line stride, stays on top of lower half with balance, short the ball with hands, works gap to gap. On the infield, high three quarters arms lot, stays under control to the ball with footwork, plays through the ball with clean transfer, 69 mph positional velocity.

Lucas Riebeling SS / RHP / Columbia , IL / 2024

Riebeling is a 5-foot-4 110-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Illinois’ 2024 class. He ran a 4.87 home to first and had a 61 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, starts in back leg, minimal load in lower half, some hand load, in line stride, level swing, produced mostly middle of the field line drives. On the infield, 64 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, long arm circle, works to the ball quickly, transfer and throw on time with momentum in footwork.

Adrian Roberts SS / RHP / Lutheran South, MO / 2022

Roberts is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2022 class.  He ran a 4.96 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, no wasted movement in load, leg kick, in line stride, quick bat speed, loose hands, works inside of the ball, uses the middle of the field.  On the infield, over the top arm slot, quick to the ball with footwork, athletic actions, soft hands with quick transfer, 70 mph positional velocity.

Jacob Schumacher 2B / SS / Eureka, MO / 2021

Schumacher is a lone and lean 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 4.55 home to first and had a 90 mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide base, loads with a toe tap, in line stride, minimal hand movement, wide base, strong hands, level path to the zone, gap to gap approach, flashed pull side power. On the infield, high three quarters release, clean transfer and throw, works quickly to the ball, 72 mph positional velocity.

Drew Sexton 2B / 3B / Parkway West, MO / 2024

Sexton is a 5-foot-4 113-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 4.53 home to first and had a 70 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced set up, toe tap to in line stride, minimal hand movement, level path, stays under control, loose hands with some feel for the barrel. On the infield, 60 mph positional velocity, works around the ball, creates momentum to throw with footwork, quick catch and throw, fluid actions with soft hands.

Jobe Smith SS / RHP / North County, MO / 2023

Smith is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2023 class.  He ran a 4.33 home to first and ran an 82 mph exit velocity. On the infield, starts slightly open, slight weight shift with toe tap, stays balanced with level path, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, quick to the ball, over the top arm slot, clean exchange, plays through the ball, 76 mph positional velocity.

Max Spillman LHP / 1B / Hillsboro R3, MO / 2024

Spillman is a 5-foot-6 148-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Illinois’ 2024 class. He ran a 4.75 home to first and had a 72 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in athletic position with weight in back leg, minimal load, quiet hands, in line stride, no wasted movement, hands manage he barrel, level swing, short to contact working inside the ball, middle fo the field line drives. On the infield, over the top release, quick to the ball with footwork on time with transfer, soft hands, 66 mph positional velocity.

Dominic Sutton 2B / SS / Hillsboro , MO / 2024

Sutton is a 5-foot-8 123-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 5.00 home to first and has a 70 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, to tap with some hand load, lands slightly open, level path with loose bat whip, used both gaps.  On the infield, 66 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive the ball, quick footwork with quick catch and release, soft hands, smooth actions.

Michael Teason C / 3B / Christian brothers college, MO / 2023

Teason is a long and lean 6-foot 159-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2023 class.  He ran a 4.66 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall set up, slight rhythm in hands, in line stride with no wasted movement to load, works inside of ball with hands, producing gap to gap contact. On the infield, 65 mph positional velocity, quick to the ball, high three quarters arms slot, made all plays cleanly with clean transfer.

Daley Thompson 3B / SS / Eureka, MO / 2021

Thompson is a sturdy 6-foot-2 220-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 4.57 home to first and had an 89 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, early stride, hands load with stride, short to contact, short though the ball, mostly middle of the field contact during hitting evals.  On the infield, over the top release, gains ground with footwork after the transfer, fluid to the ball, 75 mph positional velocity.

Jonathan ( J.T. ) Walters OF / 2B / Seckman, MO / 2021

Walters is a strong 5-foot-10 170-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 4.26 home to first and had a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and open set up, lands slightly closed at times, short the ball with hands, fast bat speed, works inside the ball, level path to extension, ball jumps off bat, gap to gap approach, pull side power. On the infield, fields ball out front, fluid footwork to the ball, quick catch and throw, short over the top arm slot, clean transfers, 71 mph positional velocity.

Zachary Walters 1B / 3B / Seckman, MO / 2024

Walters is a 5-foot-9 178-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class.  He ran a 4.67 home to first and had an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a tall and open stance, gathers weight in back leg, in line stride, minimal hand load, loose hands and level path, uses both gaps with occasional pop to pull side. On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, fields the ball cleanly out front, gains ground with footwork during transfer, fluid actions to the ball and through release, 70 mph positional velocity.

Eric Williams 3B / RHP / Fort Zumwalt East, MO / 2024

Williams is a 5-foot-7 177-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2024 class.  He ran a 4.58 home to first and had an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, minimal load, lands slightly open, showed ability to turn on inside pitch, works mostly middle to pull side, hands create level path. On the infield, over the top arm slot, plays ball out front, aggressive the ball, 70 mph positional velocity.

Bret Yarger SS / RHP / Rolla , MO / 2024

Yarger is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2024 class. He ran a 4.12 home to first and had an 89 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a tall and square position, slight load with lower half, accelerates to the ball, squared the ball up consistently gap to gap during hitting evals, stays balanced, repeats timing.  On the infield, over the top arm slot, gains momentum in footwork after clean transfer, fields ball in athletic position, made all plays cleanly, 79 mph positional velocity.

Nazzan Zanetello 3B / RHP / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2023

Zanetello is an athletic 6-foot-1 162-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2023 class. He ran a 4.31 home to first and has a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in square position in base, loaded in back side, some hand load, with soft stride, quick hands with fast bat whip, stays inside ball, gap to gap line drives, pull power.  On the infield, easy actions, fields ball out front with fluid transfer, on time with footwork, short over the top arm stroke, plays through the ball, 82 mph positional velocity, high athletic with build that can add strength to go along with good actions.
