On January 28th the Prep Baseball Report hosted the Preseason Prospect ID at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson, MS. Today, our scouting staff gives its analysis of the infielders in attendance

+ Walker Beckham, 1B, Neshoba Central, 2018
6-foot, 225-pound frame. Right-handed hitter that starts from tall, open setup with hands starting slightly above shoulder height. Works into slightly open stance with quick load and short stride. Line-drive contact with occasionally static back side, and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 83 mph. Defender with receptive hands, showing slow footwork, clean exchanges, and plays through the ball well. Medium high-3/4 arm stroke producing a positional velocity of 67 mph. Ran a 8.88 60-yard dash.

+ Brentley Bery, SS, Simpson, 2022
Average 5-foot-7, 125-pound and room to continue to mature. Switch hitter that hits from tall athletic setup and hands starting from a high position. Simple toe tap rhythm loading with balance and solid use of lower half. Direct path, working slightly uphill through the finish producing an exit velocity of 71 mph. Defender with average hands, clean exchanges, and choppy, developing footwork field baseball deep. Short arm stroke into high-3/4 release that produced a positional velocity of 69 mph. Ran a 7.90 60-yard dash.

+ Alex Bolling, 3B, Oak Grove, 2019
Physical 6-foot-1, 217-pound frame. A right-handed hitter, he has a balanced setup, simple load, loose hands, short stride with solid lower half use. Slight uphill path, line-drive approach with fluid rhythm and strength in swing producing an exit velocity of 92 mph. Defender worked through balls well with smooth footwork and receptive hands. Slow clean exchange into a slow-¾ release recording a 74 mph infield velocity. Record a 7.78 60-yard dash.

+ Blaise Breerwood, SS, Poplarville, 2020
Athletic 5-foot-9, 155-pound with room to continue to physically mature. Solid athlete for age posting a 60-yard dash time of 7.19. Right-handed hitter that starts from tall stack setup with hands at shoulder height. Simple toe tap rhythm, balanced approach, with quick hands, loose finish and developing strength; recorded an exit velocity of 84 mph. Defender moved with easy, athletic actions with an accurate arm across the diamond throwing from a short high-3/4 release producing a positional velocity of 70 mph. 

+ Jake Carr, SS, Madison-Ridgeland Academy, 2020
Athletic 5-foot-11, 166-pound frame with lean build. Right-handed hitter hitting from tall, athletic setup with hands starting slightly above shoulders. Simple load with a short stride, direct path into uphill finish that produced exit velocity of 77 mph. Defender that worked through ball athletically with receptive hands, rhythm in footwork, with long, clean exchanges into short high-3/4 release, producing an positional velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 7.84 60-yard dash

+ Keonte Carter, 1B, Terry, 2018
Currently ranked No. 120 in Mississippi’s 2018 class. Thick 5-foot-11, 205-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hitting from open, athletic setup with high hands.  Smooth load, subtle leg lift, with short stride and rotational path, left-center field approach, slight uphill path with solid bat speed producing an exit velocity of 89 mph. Infielder with average hands, decent footwork, clean exchanges as he works through the ball. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws, produced a positional velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 7.63 60-yard dash. 

+ Spence Drake, 2B, Hartfield, 2019
Right-handed hitter hits from open, wide setup, with loose rhythm. Abrupt leg lift working closed into balanced position. Load, stride, swing approach getting foot down early with short stroke and level path into uphill finish that produced exit velocity of 77 mph. Defender with average hands, decent footwork, and clean exchanges. Short arm action into high-3/4 release that produced a positional velocity of 69 mph. Also posted an 7.56 60-yard dash.

+ Kylar Fielder, 3B, West Lincoln, 2018
Lean, athletic 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame with present strength in build. Right-handed hitter starting from balanced, athletic setup with hands starting above shoulder height. Simple, shift of weight loading as hands lower into firing position with flat path to contact. Works uphill through contact with stiffness and bat speed posting an exit velocity of 90 mph. Defensively worked through ball with deliberate footwork into short ¾ arm stroke that produce a positional velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash.

+ Carson Fisher, 3B, Germantown, 2019
Wiry, athletic 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame with room for added strength. Right-handed hitter that starts from a tall, neutral setup with hands high and barrel preset. Simple repeatable rhythm with a short stride, balance, direct path posting an 86 mph exit velocity. Solid defender that showed smooth footwork, easy glove actions and clean, midline exchanges with accurate throws, posting a 81 mph infield velocity. Also ran a 7.28 60-yard dash.

McCrea Houston, SS, Northwest Rankin, 2019
Wiry 5-foot-9, 155-pound frame with twitchy athleticism throughout build. Ran a 6.97 60-yard dash.  Right-handed hitter starts from a tall, stacked setup, with simple repeatable load and short stride. Quick hands, short path into high finish and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 83 mph. Defender displayed quickish footwork, soft hands, and does a nice job of playing out in front. Clean exchange to the midline, into high-3/4 arm stroke that produced a positional velocity of 79 mph.

Austen Izzio, 3B, Pearl River Central, 2018
A lean, athletic frame Izzio showed quality athleticism posting a 6.78 60-yard dash, which translate well defensively as he works through the ball with fluid footwork. Also displaying quality arm strength recording a positional velocity of 86 mph. At the plate the right-handed hitter was able to generate easy bat speed posting an 89 mph exit velocity as he blasted balls from gap-to-gap with backspin.

Evan Keith, 3B, Vancleave, 2018
Average 6-foot-1, 186-pounds with lean, athletic build. Right-handed hitter starts from a tall, stacked setup, with simple repeatable load, short stride and balanced throughout. Quick hands, short path with line drive contact that produced an exit velocity of 85 mph. Solid defender that worked through balls athletically with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges into short high-3/4 release producing a positional velocity 78 mph from infield. Ran a 7.25 60-yard dash

River Kidd, SS, Enterprise, 2020
Athletic 6-foot-0, 170-pound frame with room to continue to fill. Right-handed hitter that starts from a tall, slightly open setup with high hands. Simple shift of weight loading with short stride and balance.  Short path creating line-drive/ground ball contact with bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 83 mph. Adam Leonard, 3B, North Pike, 2019
Average 6-foot, 190-pound with medium build. The right-handed hitter starts from a relaxed, tall, slightly open stance. Smooth load with a simple toe tap loading, as hands trigger back and down. Loose hands working through zone with uphill finish, producing an exit velocity of 81 mph. Defender with soft hands and a clean, midline exchange. Plays through the catch after with smooth footwork, creating momentum into a high-3/4 release from a medium, stiff arm swing producing a positional velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 7.91 60-yard dash.

Lean, athletic 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame with room to continue to fill. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance, then uses a simple toe-tap load, short stride and balanced.  Smooth, rotational path, line drive power producing an exit velocity of 82 mph. Infielder that worked into athletic fielding position with smooth footwork and clean exchange into a high-3/4 release that produced a positional velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.40 60-yard dash.

Medium 5-foot-9, 190-pound frame with hulky build. The left-handed hitter starts from a tall, slightly open, grounded stance. Simple load back using a subtle leg lift as he triggers his hands back, then takes a short stride. Rotational path with big, strong swing and uphill finish that produced an exit velocity of 73 mph. Defender does a nice job of funneling the ball to the midline of his body as he shuffles his feet to create linear momentum towards target. Works into a long arm swing and high-3/4 release posting a infield velocity of 73 mph. Ran a 8.60 60-yard dash.

Nikolas Mazza, SS, Madison-Ridgeland Academy, SS
Lean, athletic 5-foot-9, 160-pound frame. The left-handed hitters starts from a tall stance, then loads back with a subtle leg lift before taking a short stride forward, landing into an athletic launch position. Good bat lag through the zone with quick-strong hands for his class. Flat path and loose finish of the barrel creates leverage to the gaps with an exit velocity of 80 mph. Solid defender plays through the ball with rhythm, plays out front with soft hands, makes accurate throws from different slots, posting a positional velocity of 85 mph

Long-limb 6-foot-2, 150-pound frame with room to fill. Right-handed hitter tall, stacked setup with loose rhythm in hands. Knee-to-knee load landing balanced as hands trigger into firing position. Line-drive/ground ball type approach with loose high finish that produced an exit velocity of 77 mph. Defender that worked through balls with fluid footwork, receptive hands and clean, mid-line exchange into medium arm stroke and high-3/4 release that produced a positional velocity of 73 mph. Ran a 7.84 60-yard dash.

Lean, athletic 6-fot-2, 172-pound frame. Right-handed hitter starting from balanced, neutral setup. Creates separation with hands into a front arm-bar as he takes toe tap load, with short stride. Aggressive rotational swing with strength and uphill finish posting an 89 mph exit velocity. Defender that fields ball out front with slow, smooth footwork creating momentum towards first base. Clean transfer into short ¾ release with stiffness, produced a positional velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.50 60-yard dash.

Wiry 5-foot-8, 150-pound frame with athletic build. Solid athlete posting a 6.85 60-yard dash. Defender that worked through ball athletically with soft hands, fluid footwork and clean, midline exchange allowing arm to work efficiently with accuracy at 74 mph across the infield. Right–handed hitter with slight open, balanced setup with hands held slightly above shoulders. Simple shift of weight load, as head work down into firing position, short stride and compact stroke, posting an exit velocity of 80 mph.

Average 6-foot, 160-pound frame with room to continue to fill.  Switch hitter starts from a stacked, slightly open stance with relaxed hands starting at shoulder height.  Quick leg lift as he loads back, triggering his hands down with short path to contact. Good leverage and lift in the swing with an exit velocity of 81 mph. Took more aggressive swings from the right side. Defender that received ball well out front with slow, fluid footwork, clean midline exchange into short high-3/4 release posting a positional velocity of 74 mph

Long-limb 6-foot, 160-pound frame with room to continue to fill. Right-handed hitter that starts from a tall, open setup. Short, flat path, inside out type approach creating ground ball/line-drive contact; posting an exit velocity of 72 mph. Defender works into athletic fielding position with smooth footwork and receptive hands. Clean exchanges into long high-3/4 release producing a infield positional velocity of 73 mph. Trey Smith, 1B, Madison Central, 2021

Simple load back using a subtle leg lift as he triggers his hands back, then takes a short stride. Loose swing with natural uphill finish produced an exit velocity of 81 mph. Branson Tadlock, 3B, Ridgeland, 2021

Physical 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame, exhibited fluid actions both defensively and offensively. On the infield, moved fluidly for his age and size with adequate arm strength posting a positional velocity of 78 mph. At the plate the right-hander showed potential showed a balanced approach with strength in swing posting an exit velocity of 87 mph. Ran a 7.53 60-yard dash.

Trey Thomas, 3B, Germantown, 2019
