Quick Hitters: On Deck / Golden Spikes Pitchers

On Sunday June 5th PBR of North Carolina was on hand at Hickory Ridge HS for a scout day with the On Deck O's and NCBA Golden Spikes. The scout day featured players from the 2023-2025 grad classes.
The day began with pitchers and catchers on site. The Catchers went through their defensive workout first, throwing through to 2B. They were then evaluated as the pitchers worked through controlled bullpens. TrackMan collected data on each pitch thrown throughout the day. Next, players ran a laser timed 10/30/60 with laser timers from Swift Technology collecting the data. Position players then went through a full offensive workout, featuring multiple rounds of batting practice with TrackMan tracking ball flight data. After the offense, infielders and outfielders went through their positional workouts to conclude the day. .
Below we begin our breakdown of the players in attendance looking at the top performers in different categories. Look for more statistics and information to follow in the coming days.

QUICK HITTERS: PITCHERS
Ed Anglin, RHP, South Meck HS, 2023
Thin with length at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. Clean arm. Over-the-top slot. Average to above arm speed. Fastball ranged 82-83, 1780rpm. Strike thrower with advanced feel for his fastball. Change-up has deception with solid feel.
Maddox Cabbage, RHP, Hickory Grove Christian, 2023
Average frame. 5-foot-10, 165 pounds. Long, athletic arm stroke to an over-the-top slot. Fastball peaked at 85mph, 2639rpm. Solid ride through the zone with 12:45 spin tilt at release. Big, top to bottom break on the curveball at 71-73, 2500rpm. 11/5 tilt. Sharp but erratic at times.
Charlie Collins, RHP, Christ School, 2024
Strong build with physical presence at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. Fastball up to 85, 2076rpm with some run and sink metrics. Elevated through the bullpen. Long, clean arm action. Over-the-top slot. Level with solid direction. Top to bottom tilt on the breaking ball at 68-72, 2195rpm.
Peyton Dhein, LHP, Catawba Ridge HS (SC), 2024
Lean 5-foot-11, 155 pounds. Athletic arm action. Long and loose. ¾ slot. Whippy with good arm speed. Good deception from an athletic delivery. Fastball up to 82, 2019rpm. 10:45 spin tilt out of the hand with sink metrics. Sweeping slider has depth at 73-74, 2156rpm.
Calvin Douglas, RHP, Cuthbertson HS, 2024
Broad shoulders and strong lower half. Athletic stature. 6-foot-3, 175 pounds. Long arm working to an over-the-top slot. Easy scapular retraction. Good movement through the scap. Fastball at 82-83, spinning up to 2316rpm. Average ride, working true out of the hand. Good feel for the down zone, heavy to the glove side. Solid 10/4 tilt on a breaking ball that averaged 2352rpm.
Bryce England, RHP, Ledford HS, 2023
Tall, lean frame with room to continue to add strength and maturation at 6-foot-5, 175 pounds. Long arm to a high-¾ slot. Better than average arm speed. Strike thrower with good feel for moving the fastball. Fastball peaked at 83, 2294rpm. Big run out of the hand at over 15in with 1:45 spin tilt at release. Change-up is a potential weapon, lowering the slot slightly, mimicking the action and release of the fastball.
Cole Gillis, RHP, South Meck HS, 2024
Thin 6-foot-2, 158 pounds. Medium arm action, loading the scapular with some ease to a high-¾ slot. Average to above arm speed. Fastball at 82-84, 2145rpm. Solid ride and run out of the hand. Elevated but showed feel for both sides of the plate.
Bryson Honeycutt, RHP, JM Robinson HS, 2025
Strength present in a young frame, standing 6-foot, 170 pounds. Long arm swing, loose, slightly loading the scapular as it gets to an over-the-top slot. Average to above arm speed. Hips should loosen with maturation. Fastball peaked at 80, 2327rpm. Solid ride, playing true out of the hand with close to pure backspin at release. Showed feel for the down zone. Top to bottom breaking ball at 66mph, 2448rpm.
Jacob Iverson, RHP, Catawba Ridge HS (SC), 2023
Lanky 6-foot-4, 170 pounds. Long arm swing. High-¾ release. Elbow climbs above the shoulder line slightly as it begins to cock. Average to above arm speed with good extension. Fastball at 83-85, 2179rpm. Works easy. Easy to dream on the ceiling being much higher. Slider at 74-76, 2666rpm, wth short, darting, horizontal action.
Tate Jones, RHP, Williams HS, 2024
Average frame and still maturing at 5-foot-9, 145 pounds. Long, loose, and easy to an over-the-top slot. High front side. Gets back to down hill. Strike thrower with solid arm speed. Fastball has heavy, advanced run, over 18in out of the hand, paired with average ride through the zone. 1:45 spin tilt at release, working up to 82 in this pen with 2128rpm. Easy to see more velocity is present and we may see better in coming weeks. 3 pitch mix with slider and change-up he shows feel for. Slider has short darting action at 76-78.
Carson King, RHP, Marvin Ridge HS, 2023
6-foot-1, 190 pounds. Long arm swing. High front side. Gets back to down hill. Strike thrower with good feel for the glove side. Fastball at 80-81, 1977rpm. Heavy run on the change-up , working from a similar window as the fastball. Pounded the zone with a short slider. Worked extremely quickly, flooding the zone with all 3 pitches.
Connor Longley, LHP, South Meck HS, 2025
Thin 5-foot-10, 120 pounds. Still young and maturing. Fastball up to 80, 2153rpm with good run out of the hand. Solid feel for the down zone throughout. Long arm swing. High-¾ slot. Showed feel for 3 pitches. Breaking ball with 2/8 tilt, sweeping out of the hand at 66-68, 2184rpm.
Tyler McCollum, RHP, Charlotte Country Day, 2023
6-foot-4, 195 pounds. Medium arm action with a slight plunge from the glove. Over-the-top slot. Average arm speed, elevated throughout the pen. Fastball at 77-80, 1843rpm. Hard, downer breaking ball ball. Sharp at 68-69, 2040rpm.
Corbin Mickle, RHP, Ardrey Kell HS, 2024
6-foot-4, 170 pounds. Loose, full arm swing to an over-the-top slot. Some uphill leverage out of balance, creating solid whip through release. Better than average arm speed. Fastball at 80-82, 1942rpm.
Landon Polk, RHP, Metrolina Christian Academy, 2024
6-foot-2, 180 pounds with a straight line frame. Choppy delivery and lacked some feel but has whip and solid arm speed through a high-¾ release. Fastball up to 84, 2079rpm. Excellent ride through the zone with 12:30 spin tilt at release.
Julius Sellars, RHP, Marvin Ridge HS, 2024
6-foot, 205 pounds. Arm strength present from a high-¾ slot. Hips should loosen as he continues to mature. Short arm action. Fastball is firm at 84-86, 2175rpm. Plays true out of the hand. Elevated throughout the bullpen.
Aaron Slep, RHP, Marvin Ridge HS, 2024
Athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. Long, loose, athletic arm works to an over-the-top slot. Better than average arm speed. Fastball at 78-80, 1888rpm. Plays true out of the hand. Solid feel for the arm side. Elevated at times. Top to bottom breaking ball is still maturing, soft at times now. Sits 68-70, 1870rpm.
Rylan Souther, RHP, Southeast Guilford HS, 2024
Strength present at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds. Athletic arm through a high-¾ slot. Solid arm speed. Fastball at 78-80, 2099rpm. Around the zone, with solid feel for the arm side.
Dylan Veverka, RHP, Ardrey Kell HS, 2025
5-foot-8, 140 pounds. Long, loose arm swing. Athletic arm through a high-¾ slot. Average arm speed. Fastball peaked at 80, 1869rpm. 10/4 tilt on the breaking ball at 62-63, 1966rpm.
Thomas Whelan, RHP, Parkwood HS, 2023
Average frame at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds. Room to continue to fill out. Fastball at 86-88, 2344rpm. Average ride and run. Erratic at times but with intent. Long, loose arm action. Good whip through the over-the-top release. Good arm speed. Secondary stuff is still developing but showed some feel for both a breaking ball and change-up.
Jake Young, RHP, Charlotte Catholic HS, 2023
6-foot-3, 175 pound, straight line build. Long, loose arm swing. Athletic through the scapular load. High-¾ release. Good whip through the release. Fastball at 86-89 with sink metrics, spinning at 2282rpm and 1:30 spin tilt at release. Change-up works from a similar window, heavy run, early out of the hand. Slight hump in the breaking ball at 69-70, 2171rpm.
