PBR Mid-Atlantic ProCase: Infield Analysis

The PBR Mid-Atlantic ProCase took place October 28th at Keystone State Baseball Academy. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at the infielders that participated.

Infielders 

Jake AndreyJake Andrey, RHP/3B, Kings Christian HS (NJ), Class of 2019
6-foot, 215-pound two-way prospect is a Rider commit. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a strong lower half and present power to the pull side during his round of batting practice. Works hands through the ball efficiently using both sides of the field. Registered an 88 mph bat exit velocity while swinging wood. Feet work well at third base and 84 mph arm strength across the diamond has solid straight line carry. Trusts glove hand and showed the ability to play through the baseball. Primary pitcher also topped at 89 mph during his bullpen session.

Nathan BlasickNathan Blasick, 3B/RHP, Halifax Area HS (PA), Class of 2020
6-foot-3, 195-pound two-way prospect is committed to West Virginia. The left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and strides to even to begin his swing from a deep load position. Displayed a flat barrel path through the zone with an above average feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 89 mph while swinging wood. Showcased active feet and an ability to play through the baseball while making throws from multiple arm angles at third base. 86 mph arm strength showed good carry across the diamond. Ran a 7.50 and sat 89-91 on the mound during his bullpen session. 

Vincent CiminiVince Cimini, 3B, Scranton Prep (PA), Class of 2019
6-foot-2, 200-pounder is a Boston College commit. The right-handed hitter looks the part of an every day player at the college level right now. Cimini starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a controlled leg-lift stride. Displayed balance and rhythm throughout his swing with advanced feel for the barrel. Registered an 87 mph bat exit velocity swinging wood and displayed present gap power. Ran a 7.17 60-yard dash and showcased active feet defensively with a soft glove hand. Makes the body control play look routine and showed an ability to make throws from multiple arm angles with 86 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Joshua HoffmanJoshua Hoffman, SS, Bell Vernon Area HS (PA), Class of 2019
5-foot-9, 155-pound Youngstown State commit packs plenty of strength in a smaller frame. Ran an event best 6.51 laser timed 60-yard dash and followed that up with a 6.52 for good measure. The right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. The same fast-twitch actions are present in his swing as creates significant barrel whip with an aggressive hip turn and strong forearms. Registered an 88 mph bat exit velocity while swinging wood. Showcased enough arm strength (84 mph) to remain on the left side of the diamond defensively at the next level, but glove hand is stiff. His foot speed and physical size will likely necessitate a move to center field to better utilize his tools.

Kevin KarstetterKevin Karstetter, SS, State College Area HS (PA), Class of 2020
6-foot-3, 215-pound infielder is a Florida Atlantic commit. Came into the event nursing a hamstring and was unable to participate at full strength. The right-handed hitter was able to take one solid round of batting practice showcasing some present power to the pull side. Showcased a 92 mph bat exit velocity with metal at the 2017 PBR Future Games as a member of Team Pennsylvania. Extremely athletic for his size and will be able to play a number of positions at the next level. Runs a 6.80 60-yard dash and has been up to 87 mph off the mound.

Kenneth LevariKenny Levari, SS/RHP, St. Augustine Prep HS (NJ), Class of 2020
6-foot-1, 165-pound two-way prospect is an Old Dominion commit. The left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a simple heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. High-elbow load leads to some loop in his swing, but he clears his hips well and creates some backspin with solid feel for the barrel. Registered an 84 mph bat exit velocity while swinging wood. Showcased advanced arm strength defensively with 92 mph throws from his shortstop position. Ran a 6.96 60-yard dash and showcased active feet defensively with confidence in his glove hand. The two-way prospect topped at 91 mph during his bullpen session.

Steven LodenSteven Loden, 3B, Wissahickon HS (PA), Class of 2019
6-foot-1, 190-pound infielder is a Florida Atlantic commit. The left-handed hitter starts from a narrow, square stance and uncoils on the baseball with a short leg-lift stride. Loden swings with intent and creates significant backspin with a pronounced launch angle. Showcased present power to the gaps with an 86 mph bat exit velocity while swinging wood. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash and moves well laterally from his hot corner position. Showcased an ability to make throws from multiple arm angles with 82 mph arm strength across the diamond.

John McNameeJohn McNamee, 1B, Holy Ghost Prep (PA), Class of 2019
6-foot-3, 210-pound Rider commit. The right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing with a controlled leg-hang stride. Displayed solid balance while getting to extension with regularity, driving a number of baseballs to the pull side. Registered an 87 mph bat exit velocity while swinging wood. Moves well around the bag at first base and showed a soft glove hand. Showcased 84 mph arm strength while running a 7.81 60-yard dash.

Sam RutaSam Ruta, SS, Pennsbury HS (PA), Class of 2020
6-foot-2, 185-pound Army commit was a member of Team Pennsylvania at the 2018 PBR Future Games. The left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Hands work well through contact and showed the ability to use all fields. Registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity while swinging wood and ran a 6.97 60-hard dash. Showcased a soft glove hand defensively while making throws from multiple arm angles. Comfortable making plays on the move and displayed 80 mph arm strength across the diamond with more in the tank.

Luke StormLuke Storm, 3B, Easton Area HS (PA), Class of 2020
6-foot-5, 220-pound switch-hitter is a Duke commit. Top performer offensively at the event. Starts his swing from both sides of the plate from a slightly open stance and uses a leg-hang stride to get started. Shows more whip and power potential from the left side while he made consistent loud contact from the right side as well. Registered an 87 mph bat exit velocity from the left side while swinging wood and ran a 6.86 60-yard dash. Showcased capable actions defensively at the hot corner with 84 mph arm strength, but a move to first base or to a corner outfield spot is likely at the next level.

Jordan SweeneyJordan Sweeney, 1B, Egg Harbor Township HS (NJ), Class of 2019
6-foot-5, 215-pound Rutgers commit. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a direct swing path while staying inside the baseball routinely with an aggressive lower half. Made loud contact consistently while showcasing an above average feel for the baseball. Registered a 92 mph bat exit velocity while swing wood. Ran an impressive 6.87 60-yard dash and moved well around the bag at first base with a soft glove hand and 82 mph arm strength.

Sean SzestowickiSean Szestowicki, SS, Kingsway Regional HS (NJ), Class of 2019
5-foot-9, 165-pound James Madison commit. The right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short leg-hang stride. Displayed a solid lower half while consistently staying inside the baseball. Showed some present power to the pull side with an ability to create some backspin. Registered an 84 mph bat exit velocity while swinging wood. Plays through the baseball routinely defensively. Flashed a quick arm stroke with 90 mph arm strength across the diamond and ran a 7.08 60-yard dash.
