Coronado Scout Day Recap
January 23, 2020
The Coronado Scout Day brought out a talented young core that will have the Cougars in the hunt for years to come. With Centralia College commit, 2020 LHP Nolan Patterson looking to spearhead the Cougars pitching staff this season, the handful of arms that make up the remainder of the staff, 2021 RHP Austin Cates once again showed his progression as his fastball was up to 84 mph from the 81 mph he topped out at during his bullpen at the Uncommitted Upperclass event in November, 2022 RHP Noah Wasano, also topping out at 84 mph paired with a split change with late downward action, 2021 RHP Ian Roemer, the staff work horse sat 80-81 mph with feel for each of his three pitches that lived down in the zone and last but certainly not least, 2021 two-way prospect Jordan Writer, his fastball up to 82 mph complimented by a 12/6 curveball that flashed some backup action after posting the best Outfield Velocity of the day at 86 mph.
2021 OF Reed Pippin, holds down a premium position in centerfield for the Cougars, routinely making plays that are far from routine with an excellent first step, a sub 7.00 60 Time and an accurate 85 mph from the outfield. The top prospect in attendance at the Coronado Scout Day was Future Games attendee, 2022 IF/RHP Parker Vint, a name you will consistently see on the Top Performers list below in the areas that apply to him. The top Infield Velocity at 85 mph, second in Exit Velocity at 86 mph, only behind 2021 1B Christopher Cascardo’s 92 mph performance, and matched Cates’ Max Fastball velocity at 84 mph. The 6-foot-3, 200 pound, stout framed, extremely strong based sophomore drove the ball with authority to the middle-pull side throughout his batting practice round and continues to progress his game which will have him as one of the players to watch for as the PBR 2022 Rankings come out in the near future.
