McQueen Lancers: Quick Hits
March 8, 2021
The McQueen Lancers Scout Day in the books, we now take a look back at the standouts from yesterday's event. The Scout Day included a Pro-Style Workout where players ran a Laser Timed 60 Yard Dash, took a Batting Practice, Catcher Pop Times/Velocity, Outfield Evaluations/Velocity and Infield Evaluation/Velocity concluding with Pitches Bullpens. This was an exclusive event for players in the McQueen Lancers program to highlight current players as well as a spotlight on the current state of the program itself.

Jared Stevenson / IF/RHP / Feather River
Jared Stevenson came into the Scout Day as one of the most Under the Radar prospects in the Nevada's 2021 Class with present tools on both sides of the ball. At the plate, he earned a share of the day's Top Exit Velocity and the carried that into a loud batting practice round that showed his gap to gap approach with present pull side power. Defensively, his clean actions have gained more fluidity through the ball as he used his 6.69 speed to range well to both sides, showing feel for the backhand play paired with an 85 mph Infield Velocity. On the mound, he earned the Top Fastball Velocity at 85 mph and an ability to command both of his secondary pitches. The Feather River recruit is going to be one of the key pieces in the Lancer's lineup this Spring and we project him to be among the top performers in Northern Nevada and throughout the Silver State.

Christian Carnes / RHP/3B / Nebraska Wesleyan
The Nebraska Wesleyan signee continues to show well at each Prep Baseball Report event, following up his successful summer with another standout performance at the McQueen Scout Day. Currently, a two-way player, he will move on to the next level primarily as a pitcher only where he has been up to 85 mph in the past, but on a brisk morning sat 81-82, topping out at 83 mph. The 5-foot-11, 150 pound frame leads to projections of increased velocity and secondary pitch effectiveness, especially with the looseness in his 3/4 arm slot. Along with Snelling and Stevenson, Carnes is going to be a critical piece of the Lancer's rotation this Spring.

The uncommitted sophomore used his present physicality during his batting practice round, leaving the yard multiple times throughout his round to left field. His simple, repeated stroke at the plate does have some rotational features, but his present strength allowed him to drive the ball to left field with some natural lift through extension. Defensively, he showcased feel around the bag as well as coming off the bags with some smoothness in his footwork that should only get better as his foot speed increases over the next few years. This is another Lancer that could have his breakout season this Spring and is a player to keep on your radar over the next few years.
