Mountain Region #1 seed eliminated
May 8, 2019
LAS VEGAS, NV – The Southern Nevada Region Championship Tournaments are underway with the second round complete on Tuesday. The Mountain Region #1 seed Faith Lutheran Crusaders have been eliminated, losing in the first round to Cimarron-Memorial and the second round to Centennial. The Crusaders had a tremendous season finishing atop the division in front of powers Palo Verde, Las Vegas, and Centennial. In spite of earning the #1 seed, courtesy of their regular season division championship, Faith Lutheran drew a formidable opponent in the Spartans of Cimarron-Memorial. Their loss accompanied by Centennial’s loss provided a tough second round opponent in the Bulldogs.
These two losses should not diminish the Crusaders accomplishment. They played exceptional throughout the regular season, winning big game after big game. ’20 Michael Rice, RHP, pitched exceptionally and a host of seniors can be proud of their final campaign. ’19 Jacob Ortega, 1B, will continue his playing career at UNLV, while ’19 Sagan Gronauer will play football at Idaho State. Seniors, Dylan Howell, Charles Bonus, Dylan Schafer, and Parker Sylvester all played integral parts in the Crusaders success.
Faith Lutheran can be optimistic with the likes of returners ’20 Michael Rice, ’20 Vance Serrano, ’21 Christian Dijkman, ’21 David Carroll and ’21 Alec Barrett poised to take the mound next season.
In addition to the Crusaders, Shadow Ridge was eliminated from Mountain Region tournament play. In the Desert Region, Coronado and Durango were eliminated form post season play.
