LATHROP, CALIF. - The second annual Northern California Uncommitted Senior Games took place at Islanders Field at River Islands. Nearly 70 players came to participate in the event that was live streamed to over 100 coaches across the country..
Players were put through a traditional pro-style workout before playing in a live scout-ball style game in which pitchers faced four hitters apiece. There were two sessions, showcase and game, starting in the morning and then repeating the same format in the afternoon, finishing with the lights on in the evening.
We will roll out position breakdowns in the coming days and weeks along with various leaderboards from data provided by our partners Trackman and Blast Motion. Until then we’ll take at some early standouts in this edition of Quick Hits.

Joshua Algarin OF / LHP / The King's Academy PSP, CA / 2021Rankings StateRank: 166 / POS: 30
A sparkplug type of talent, not big in body but the tools all show up over an extended viewing. Ran 6.85, OF velocity up to 88 mph, modest 87 mph EV but the raw pop showed up when he laced a triple to RCF off an 86 mph FB. The speed was on display around the bases as well. On mound up to 83, w/65-66 CB, 75-77 CHG. |
Anthony Alvarez SS / 2B / Camarillo, CA / 2021Perhaps the top all around set of tools at the event, certainly among MIFs. Ran a brisk 6.72 60, threw 88 across the diamond while showing athletic actions and glove skills, posted EV of 95 using wood bat, while driving the ball deep too CF and RCF. Usability of those abilities is the key, as there were two Ks in the game ABs. |
Zachary Connors RHP / Dougherty Valley, CA / 2021Long 6-foot-3 175-pound body has ample room to fill out and w/a loose easy arm and his athleticism on the mound, the stuff will jump. FB was up to 88, settled 85-86 (2138 avg spin, 6'3" avg xtsn) and CB 68-69 mph w/2353 avg spin. The control wasn't as good as it will be in the future, catching a bit too much plate at times. |
Jordan Davis OF / 2B / Franklin, CA / 2021Younger brother of 2020 OF Chase Davis (U of Arizona), has tools that stand out regardless of who he is related to. Ran 7.04 60 though looks like he could be a bit quicker than that. Strong arm at 89 mph and 93 mph EV gives a glimpse of future power. Powerful young man w/a line drive stroke, the power will show up in time. |
Teague Drotar OF / RHP / Los Gatos, CA / 2021The raw numbers aren't eye-popping, but the overall package of tools, talent, usability of his abilities and ceiling paint a very nice picture. Quiet approach at the plate, showed power potential in the middle of the field both in BP and game ABs, threw 84 from OF, 98 EV, up to 84 on mound w/feel of two secondary pitches. |
Taylor Kaufman OF / Burlingame , CA / 2021Showed strong offensive tendencies/talents, starting in the BP round and continuing more so in game ABs. Drew a 'walk' in both plate appearances before driving a double to LCF and then singling in his second AB. Strong top hand and finish to his swing will produce consistent gap power. Threw 87 from OF, ran 7.38. |
Stephen Kwak RHP / Bellarmine College Prep, CA / 2021Was dominant in this viewing. There is stuff that comes out of his arm and there is an aggressive, menacing mound presence that really works for him. The body is big/strong, the repertoire is full and he uses it well. FB up to 88, avg 2274 spin, CB flashes potential plus action (avg 2381 spin), SL 2476, along with feel of a splitter. |
Liam Little C / 3B / De La Salle, CA / 2021Toolsy catcher w/chance to develop into an above average college catcher both offensively/defensively. Loose easy stroke w/ability to access his power potential (94 EV). Drove ball to LF in game action. Ran 7.29, popped as low as 1.97, consistently 2.03-2.04, 82 mph arm, throws were a bit wild but the arm is good. |
Nathan Maas RHP / 3B / Soquel, CA / 2021At 6-foot-3 205-pounds, the body is prototypical. The delivery/release are well above average, with 6'1" avg extension on FB that averaged 85.2 mph (T88, 2153 avg spin). Showed feel of three pitches and ability to mix. Heavy CB usage (71-76 mph, max 2382 spin) along with deceptive CHG. Projects to have a high ceiling. |
Thomas Meyer RHP / SS / Granite Bay, CA / 2021Intriguing two-way talent. The raw stuff will have to tick upward a bit, though he flashed up to 86 and pounded the zone w/the FB (6' avg extension). Patient approach at plate, aggressive when needed, let's ball travel, showed gap pop in BP, twice drove ball in middle of field in game ABs. Showed 82 mph infield arm. |
Will Pappas RHP / De La Salle, CA / 2021Last saw him a year ago topping at 78 mph. In this outing his stuff was LIVE, up to 88 (sat 85-87), easy whippy arm, aggressively pounded the zone w/the FB . Hitters seemed on the defensive and avg FB extension of 6'9" is why. The avg 5'2" release height also gave them trouble, which was identical to his CHG release height. |
Connor Pawlowski C / 3B / Pioneer, CA / 2021Has been a varsity starter since his frosh year and the tools have come along nicely. Lean and athletic body, shows agility and bounce behind the plate, easily pops out of the crouch. 7.12 runner, twice popped 1.97 (75 mph arm). The 98 mph EV showed the potential to drive the ball. Swing was fluid w/loose quick hands. |
Ben Pernetti 3B / RHP / Pleasant Grove , CA / 2021Physical man-type body, understands how to 'play the game' and has ample talents to positively impact the game. Possesses present raw power (97 EV) w/feel for the bat (LHH). Makes 2k adjustments, willing to use the whole field. Solid 3B skills that will translate well to 1B. FB up to 86 (6'2" avg extnsn), tight CB w/max spin 2392. |
Joseph Portwood OF / SS / Christian Brothers, CA / 2021Showed three above average tools in workout portion of the day, 6.98 60, 95 mph EV, 85 mph OF arm. Athletic build at 6-foot-0 170-pounds, checking another box. Smooth stroke and relaxed at the plate, showed pop in BP then a glimpse of some all-field power potential in the game action. High ceiling projection w/the tools. |
Ryan Proctor OF / 1B / The Thacher School, CA / 2021At 6-foot-5, 215-pounds he's got the look of a powerful RHH, which is part of his profile. What was unexpected, given his size, was the 6.93 60 and the 82 mph OF arm. Showed ability to keep barrel in the zone in BP, then scalded a ball on a line to the SS in game action. Intriguing talent, could draw pro attention in the spring. |
Matthew Sigafoos RHP / Damonte Ranch, NV / 2021Rankings StateRank: 31 / POS: 7
One of Nevada's top uncommitted pitchers, flashed stuff that could take him off the market soon. Three pitch mix, strong 6-foot-1 175-pound build w/a quick arm. FB flashed up to 87 a couple of times, 2287 avg spin, crisp through the zone. Slider 71-73 mph w/avg 2442 spin and feel for the zone. Decelerates CHG off the FB well. |
Tyler Tobey 3B / 2B / Franklin, CA / 2021Outstanding performance, showing multiple tools, then in the game action showing usability of the tools. Athletic body w/muscular proportions. Ran 6.93, 96 mph top EV w/80 mph INF arm. Presence at the plate, works count well, good 2K hitter, no fear at plate. Sharp single to LF on 2K CB then BB and well-struck F8 in second AB. |
Lee Trevino 2B / SS / Redwood , CA / 2021Nothing flashy but all-around baseball skill and usable tools. Athletic 6-foot-0 180-pound body, ran 6.82 which contributes to the range and ability to play strong defense at either middle INF spot. Arm projects best to 2nd base (75 mph). Short compact stroke w/contact approach, tough out, willing to go deep in counts. |
PK Walsh OF / 1B / Serra, CA / 2021Impact tools w/streamlined 6-foot-2 185-pound body. Ran 6.84 then showed wheels in game action. Has extra base power that flashes as future HR power. Can man any of the OF spots, 84 mph arm. 97 mph EV then pounded ball off LCF wall and lined single through middle in game ABs. Controlled middle of field approach. |
Ryan Werner SS / 2B / St. Mary's, CA / 2021Showed multiple tools that project nicely to the college level and as a switch-hitting MIF (83 mph arm), he should have options. Bat plays on both sides of plate, showed 98 EV in BP then laced two line drives in game ABs (L4, L3). Short controlled swing, consistently on-time, showed barrel feel on both sides. Ran 7.29. |
