Rancho Scout Day Recap
February 17, 2020
The Rancho Scout Day showcased the progression PBR event veterans while other Uncommitted prospects used the Scout Day to put their names on the map. The Rams, known for their gritty, hard-nosed style of play, have built a talented group of prospects including two pitchers that were up to 89 mph. 2020 RHP/1B Andrew Baughn, a College of Southern Idaho recruit, featured a four-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH, SL) that he was able to locate with his polished, clean delivery and a high ¾ to ¾ arm slot. He recorded a new personal best during the Rancho Scout Day with his fastball topping out at 89 mph with feel for his secondary pitches that lived down in the zone. Uncommitted 2021 RHP Jairo Verdugo is an Under the Radar, raw arm that sat 88-89 throughout his bullpen, flashing potential plus secondary pitches that he was able to locate around the zone. He will be an arm that we will track closely to see how he continues to progress throughout his junior campaign.
2020 OF Donovan Gladney, a Shoreline CC recruit, had a standout day, improving on his previous personal best of 6.57 at the 2019 Nevada All-State Games with an event best 6.45 60 Time, leading into his line drive filled batting practice session the showed flashes of power to the pull side and finished his day with another personal best topping out at 84 mph from the outfield. Uncommitted 2020 IF Shelby Richards is another Under that Radar prospect that has continued to progress as a prospect and the work he has put in was apparent with improvements in each measured area including: a 6.84 60 Time, 84 mph Infield Velocity and an 83 mph Exit Velocity. He possesses smooth infield action with the ability to range to both sides and an accurate arm that can keep him on the left side of the infield paired with a rhythmic swing with extension in to a high finish that can spray the ball all over the yard and projects to add power as he continues to add strength and size to his lean 6-foot-0 frame. Lastly, Uncommitted 2021 C Ian Graf is another Under the Radar prospects at Rancho, earning a 99 mph Exit Velocity and putting on an electric batting practice round in which he hit multiple balls out over the left field to left-center field wall with ease and finished the round showing off his ability to drive the ball to right-center with authority as well. Graf did not throw at the Rancho Scout Day but will be a guy that we will be following closely during his junior season.
