Under the Radar, High Ceiling: 2021 OF Reed Pippin

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

Reed Pippin, '21, is a top of the order type bat that has the ability to find his way on base a number of different ways with the help of his 6.78 speed and is also guy who knows how to use that tool to routinely make plays that are far from routine at a premium position in centerfield. Though he does live mostly to the pull side, he has shown an ability to use the entire field with flashes of power working towards the left-center gap. He should play a key role in the success of a Coronado team with a talented roster featuring Ethan Stephens, a Central Arizona College commit, and Josh Johnson, one of the top remaining two-way prospects in the 2020 Class. Pippin is looking to make his name known at the Coronado Scout Day as one of the top outfielders Nevada will have to offer in the 2021 Class and will be a prospect to keep an eye out for when the updated PBR Nevada Player Rankings come out following the conclusion of the PBR Scout Days.

Scouting Report

2/10/19 -Athletic, 5-foot-10, 160, Pippins is a well-proportioned athlete with present strength.  He is a reliable outfielder with the speed to stay in centerfield. He has a good feel for throwing footwork and the transition to throw.  He throws from a high ¾ slot, getting consistently on top of the ball for true, online throws.  At the plate, he stands tall, retaining good posture throughout his swing with a high finish.  Pippin looks-to-pull and the high finish produces a fair amount of flyballs.  His twitchy swing with wiry strength may provide sneaky power down the line, but he presently may be better suited to use his speed and work to the middle of the field. Pippin’s speed plays and there is a lot to work with.
