Game Recap: (#4) Faith Lutheran at Spring Valley
March 6, 2024
The opening game of the 2024 High School regular season brought us our first "upset" of the year with the Spring Valley Grizzlies taking a 4-1 victory over the #4 ranked Faith Lutheran Crusaders. Faith tools an early lead behind an Uncommitted 2025 IF, Dylan Swanson, homerun, but the Grizzlies answered back in the bottom of the 2nd and never looked back with a mix of small ball and timely hitting to go with a massive performance on the mound by freshman right-hander, Brayden Lenahan.

+ Brayden Lenahan, 2027 RHP - The freshman stood tall with his mostly fastball, curveball mix that proved effective throughout his complete game, 92 pitch effort. An attendee of the 2023 Rising Stars event, Lenahan has seen a +6 mph jump over the past year with his fastball running up to 85 mph with the ability to move it in and out, keeping the hitters honest. Relying mostly on his fastball, he spun an 11/5 breaking ball that flashed some tunnel of his fastball with polish and consistent location expected to come. This will be a player to keep an eye on over the next few years.

+ Cash Martin, 2027 RHP/IF - The #3 ranked 2027 prospect in Nevada settled in early during his first prep outing, running his fastball up to a PBR Verified 90 mph with present arm side life. Throughout his outing, he relied heavily on his fastball, only flashing his breaking ball as more of a "show" pitch than an out pitch. Martin gave up 3 ER over his 4.0 IP, striking out 3 against a scrappy Spring Valley group that continued to put the ball in play and pressure the Crusader defense. The ceiling for Martin is extremely high with velocity expected to continue trending to go with his breaking ball that spun up to 3198 RPM.

+ Dylan Swanson, 2025 IF - The physical, Faith Lutheran corner infielder had himself a day at the plate, homering in his first at-bat of the season to left-centerfield. After limited time on a senior loaded 2023 Faith Lutheran squad, we expect Spring 2024 to be his breakout season and yesterday proved just that as he went 2 for 3 with a homerun and single to right field, producing the only RBI of the day for Faith. Swanson will be a key bat this season in the heart of the Faith Lutheran order.

+ Aidrik Teal, 2024 OF - The senior clutched up with a triple to left field that brought in the tying run in the top of the 3rd, scoring shortly after on a Jack Rieckmann sac fly to give the Grizzlies the lead. Teal's name could be found all over the stat sheet as a catalyst to get Spring Valley on the board, where they never looked back.

The future Aggie gets things started for the Crusaders with this sharp single to LF #BeSeen@PrepBaseballNV | @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/HKZ5GtJwcn
+ Kingston Kela, 2026 IF - The Texas A&M commit opened up the hitting for the Crusaders in the top of the first with a sharp single to left field. The sure-handed defender has get a handful of chances last Spring, but this year he will ascend into a vital role at the top of the Faith Lutheran order and rightfully so after the caliber of swings he took in yesterday's contest. The power seems to be transitioning from power potential to present power after hooking a ball just foul that was arguably the hardest hit ball of the game. Keep an eye on Nevada's #5 ranked 2027 as a player that could have a huge sophomore Spring.
