Class of 2023 Inside the Rankings - Diamonds in the Rough

Each week leading up to the new year, we will be rolling out “Inside the Rankings” articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘23 class in NY and PA. This week, the focus shifts towards “Diamonds in the Rough” candidates - players who should be high-priority follows with a chance to take the next step.
2023 1b/rhp jobe congdon (maine-endwell)
The Spin: Long and athletic at 6-foot-2, 180lbs, Congdon creates consistent leverage in the box with ability to backspin the ball all over the field for distance. The righty added 15lbs of muscle over the past year with hard work in the weight room, translating to a much improved skillset with legitimate power in the middle of the order. Cuts down on swing/miss with good flexibility in the movements and can adjust bat-angles to different quadrants. Showed well over multiple PBRT’s, hunting FB’s in advantage counts with high intent in the approach. A projectable frame and loose, confident actions should continue breeding success, hinting at another jump to be made this upcoming year.
The Performance: Northeast Summer Championships Aug 4 - Aug 6 | Went on a three-game tear for RBI Thunder posting a 2HR, 5RBI, 3B, 2B stat line over the stretch. The athleticism was on full display with advanced feel for the barrel and “gamer” like qualities, even stepping up on the mound to bump T82 mph.
