Inside the Rankings: Top 10 Class of 2022 Outfielders

With our latest rankings release for the 2022 class we decided to dive in deeper with a breakdown of the top 10 in each position. Today we start with right-handed pitchers. 

Disclaimer: Players listed below are ranked in order of their PRIMARY listed position on the website that they have chosen. A dual player that is also strong at their secondary position may carry more weight in their overall ranking.

Top 10 OF / Class of 2022

Devan Kodali OF / Poly Prep , NY / 2022


Quick Hit: 
Athletic frame for the RHH OF at 6-foot-2 175 pounds. Spread stance with a short, direct path to the ball; line drive results but will be continue to develop power. Aggressive, fundamental approach with plenty of backspin (84 MPH peak velocity). 

First Glimpse: Metro Scout Day (October 2019). Showed some polish in a group of talented players.

Breakout Performance: Metro Scout Day (October 2019).

The Future: The Vanderbilt commit plays for power program Poly Prep; hopefully we are able to catch another glimpse of Kodali this summer or fall.

Gavyn Boyle OF / Royalton-Hartland, NY / 2022


Quick Hit: Rangy left-handed hitter with present pop to his pull side. Still developing his 6-foot-2 185 pound frame. Ran personal best 6.77 60 this preseason. 

First Glimpse: Last Chance Preview - Downstate (October 2018). One of the younger yet more physical players at the event.

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - Downstate (February 2019)

The Future: Corner OF projection with an accurate arm that will continue to build strength. Looking forward to seeing him once again at the 2020 NYS Games.

Christopher Suero OF / All Hallows, NY / 2022


Quick Hit: 
Well put-together 5-foot-9 180 pound RHH from NYC. Stays short into the zone with explosive actions through contact; flashed some lift to his pull side.  Attacks the ball in the OF; up to 83 MPH at the 2019 NYS Games.

First Glimpse: Last Chance Preview - Downstate (October 2018). One of the younger yet more physical players at the event.

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - Downstate (February 2019)

The Future: Look for Suero to continue to develop his offensive game to being a big time extra base threat. Improved foot speed to be a focal point going forward.

Riley Loomis OF / Horseheads, NY / 2022


Quick Hit:
Fast twitch actions for the 5-foot-11 165 pound RHH from the Southern Tier. Impressive stat line at the 2019 NYS Games (7.08 60 / 82 MPH OF Velo / 91 MPH Exit Velo). Line drive approach through the middle of the diamond.

First Glimpse: Campus Series - St. Bonaventure (July 2018). Solid all-around efforts; worked out at SS and on the mound.

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - Southern Tier (February 15, 2019).

The Future: Loomis will be looking to get back on the field this summer/fall after some time off; also works 79-80 MPH on the mound with some projection there.

Tyler Sausville OF / Colonie , NY / 2022


Quick Hit: 
Pound-for-pound one of the best athletes within this crop of outfielders at 5-foot-6 145 pounds. The LHH and LHP flooded the stat lines at the Preseason event in the Capitol Region this past February (85 MPH OF Velo / 88 MPH Exit Velo / 83 MPH FB).

First Glimpse: Campus Series - St. John's (July 2019). Showed a flat path, line drive stroke to all fields with a fundamental approach in the outfield. 

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - Capitol Region (February 2020).

The Future: Saw a huge jump in numbers at the recent preseason event. Has thrust himself into the rankings and we're looking for big things from Sausville both on the mound and positionally at the 2020 NYS Games. 

John Luis OF / Environmental studies , NY / 2022


Quick Hit:
Slight, athletic build at 5-foot-7 153 pounds for the NYC resident. Yielded some big numbers at his first ever event (6.92 60 / 85 MPH OF Velo / 83 MPH Exit Velo) back in February.

First Glimpse: Preseason All-State - Downstate (February 2020). Short swing with some explosive actions at the plate. 

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - Downstate (February 2020).

The Future: Exciting player that we first got a glimpse at back in February. Liked his aggressive actions in the outfield and as he gets strong a player that will find the gaps and force the issue on the basepaths. Slotted to be at the 2020 NYS Games.

Irving Monegro OF / St. Raymond, NY / 2022


Quick Hit: 
Physically impressive 6-foot-1 200 pounds RHH from NYC. Steady upward trend in the numbers department with his best effort this past February (6.92 60 / 92 OF Velo / 89 MPH Exit Velo). Also up to 81 MPH on the mound as a RHP.

First Glimpse: Team Citius Workout (June 2020).

Breakout Performance: Preseason - Fall Top Prospect Games (September 2019).

The Future: We've always liked Monegro's skill set. He's become more physical and it shows at the plate with the ability to drive through the ball. Aggressive actions in the outfield. Poised to make another jump in the rankings. Excited to see him at the 2020 NYS Games.

Nicolas LoBello OF / Xavier , NY / 2022


Quick Hit: 
Another first timer who impressed the staff this past February. Plenty to build on with an impressive debut (7.07 60 / 84 MPH OF Velo / 82 Exit Velo) for the NYC resident.

First Glimpse: Preseason All-State - Long Island (February 2020). Impressed with athletic actions and quick bat into the zone.

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - Long Island (February 2020).

The Future: Another smaller frame outfielder who put up strong numbers and the actions point to him being a next level threat. Will be a definite follow at the 2020 NYS Games.

Evan Dieter OF / Kingston, NY / 2022


Quick Hit:
Impressive effort at recent event in February with an uptick in numbers across the board (6.86 60 / 82 OF Velo / 87 Exit Velo); the LHP was also up to 81 MPH on the mound. Athletic 5-foot-10 170 pound build.

First Glimpse: Preseason All-State - Hudson Valley (February 2020). Ran a 7.10 60 with a sweeping swing across the zone. Did not make throws.

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - Hudson Valley (February 2020).

The Future: Dieter's efforts this past February jumped him into the rankings with some dual potential for the Hudson Valley resident. Looking forward to tracking his progress at the 2020 NYS Games.

Gavin Phillips OF / Gowanda , NY / 2022


Quick Hit: 
Compact frame at 5-foot-8 155 pounds RHH from western NY. Explosive actions at the dish. Attacks the ball in the OF with an over-the-top arm slot; 81 MPH arm strength.

First Glimpse: Campus Series - St. Bonaventure (July 2019). 

Breakout Performance: Preseason All-State - West (February 2020)

The Future: Plenty of positives from Phillips with improved numbers from last summer. Tools at the plate will only get stronger. Look for foot speed and arm strength to continue improve. Another 2020 NYS Games attendee that will draw attention.
