WEEK 3 & 4 (MARCH 23-April 7)

Derrick Miller (Hudson Valley CC)INF / Rome Free Academy, NY / 2017

Showed a ton of range, while being able to track shallow fly balls in the outfield and also eating up ground balls up the middle. Turned a few double plays in key moments for the Vikings. In the lead off spot at the plate, Miller demonstrated plenty of quality AB’s; showed the ability to spray the ball to all areas of the field. Hitting .395 with 2 2B, 3B, 2 HR and 14 RBI.

 

Antonio Nesci (Onondaga CC)C / Syracuse, NY / 2016

Nesci-Cruz showed great defensive work behind the plate; able to control the field in front of him. Displayed great receiving skills and was able to hold the corners of the plate well; quick footwork while having to break down and block balls. Quick glove to hand transition, throwing down to 2nd and also snap throws down to the corner bags.

 

DJ Berry (Lackawanna College)OF / SS / Brighton, NY / 2017

Fast twitch athlete with lighting quick swing into the zone; aggressive FB approach but showed in game adjustments with soft stuff away. Plenty of lateral range; quick release and an arm that holds from the left side. Presently hitting .329 with 6 2B, 2 3B and 19 RBI with 24 runs scored. Also has 11 stolen bases for the Falcons.

 

Zac Granger (Lackawanna College)OF / Horseheads , NY / 2017

Rangy, athletic build. RHH shows plus bat speed with line drive approach. Arm shows carry w/ accuracy during pre-game. No in game opportunities to let it fly. Hitting .373 with 2 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 19 EBI and 18 runs scored. University of Akron commit.

 

 

Jerry Reinhart (Lackawanna College)3B / Batavia , NY / 2017

Proportional build; spread stance for the RHH. Steady defender; clean hands and release with throws that hold carry. Steady all-around player that’s presently hitting .310 with 9 2B, 2 3B, HR, 12 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

 

Colin Weinert (Lackawanna College0RHP / C / Warwick, NY / 2017

Making conversion to pitcher; Lean, athletic build with square shoulders. Repeats delivery and at times flashed above average CB with late break. FB command will be the key to his future progress. Additional velo to come to what was a mid to upper 80’s FB. 13 K over 9 ⅔ IP.

 

Andrew Huffman (Ulster CC)RHP / Rondout Valley , NY / 2017

The converted catcher is a workhorse on the mound with a squared off upper body at 6-2 210 pounds. Moderate arm swing from a high ¾ slot. Works in the mid to upper 80’s with a downhill angle; heavy ball. Pounds the bottom of the zone and can work both sides of the plate; flashes a hard 11-to-7, late action breaking ball with an occasional same plane change up. Had a no-hitter for 5+ vs. Sullivan; took the CG loss allowing 5 hits, 3 ER while striking out 12 and walking only one. Hard luck 1-3 on the season. Has punched out 36 and only walked three over 20 ⅔ IP for the Senators. 

Keven Franco (Ulster CC)RHP / Richmond Hill , NY / 2018

Lean, athletic build with a clean arm swing. Works ahead in the count; occasionally uses hesitations within delivery to off-set timing. Showed a change up but was able to spot & expand with harder CB. Scattered 6 hits over 6 ⅔ IP vs. Sullivan CC. 2-0 on the season with 17 K over 16 ⅔ IP.

 

Tyler Guadagno (Ulster CC)SS / Monroe-Woodbury , NY / 2018

Average, athletic build. Flashed plenty of lateral range with above average glove work up the middle. Solid feel for the game; aware of the runner and time needed. Quick release when needed with an arm that holds it carry across the diamond. Flat path; middle of the field approach with the ability to pop the gaps. Hitting .409 on the year with 2 2B and 2 HR. Has walked 14 times to only 6 strikeouts. 

Anthony J Gonzalez (Ulster CC)1B / Carmel , NY / 2018

Full frame; broad shouldered. Slightly open setup with gap-to-gap juice. Balanced approach with minimal pre-pitch actions. Definite extra base threat; middle of the order contributor. Hitting a robust .423 with 9 2B, 3 HR and 24 RBI. Has only struck out twice in 55 plate appearances.

 

Kelvin Gutierrez (Ulster CC)OF / Bathgate, NY / 2018

Lean, athletic build for the switch-hitting outfielder. Quiet approach from both sides; quick twitch with some explosiveness through the zone. Spilt the oppo gaps for extra bases from both sides of the plate during the Sullivan CC series. On the season Gutierrez is hitting .333 with 2 2B, 3B, HR and 9 RBI with 9 stolen bases.

 

Miles Kelly (Rockland CC)1B / Shoreham Wading River, NY / 2017

The Rutgers transfer continues to show off the power in his series vs. Westchester CC. LHH- with a proportional build hovers over the plate with a lean at the belt. Went 6-for-16 in the Westchester series with a double and HR (4th). Hitting .311 2 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR and 17 RBI for 14-7 Rockland CC.

 

Ryan Williams (Erie CC)RHP / 1B / Kenmore East, NY / 2017

Strong, physical build at 6-foot-2 210 pounds. The RHP worked 85-87 MPH vs. Corning CC on 4/6. Went 5 ⅔ innings allowing only two hits while striking out four. Command waivered as he racked up 6 walks but is averaging a K per inning on the season.

Sophomore OF/1B Nick Thomas (Scotia - Glenville / Hudson Valley CC)
Thomas had a stand out performance at the plate in a regional DH against Jefferson CC. With a wide stance and stayed low, Thomas had a very compact swing that generates tons of power with his lower half. Hitting 2 home runs, one going over the right center wall, and then his second one going over the left center wall. Both were hard hit, low line drive trajectory angled, and got out in a hurry. Hitting .400 with 3 2B, 3B, 4 HR with 17 RBI.

Sophomore C Kobe Jackson (Little Falls HS / Hudson Valley CC)
At 6-foot-3 235 pounds, Jackson has great command of the game from behind the plate. He presents a great target for his pitchers. Moves his feet well and breaks down to keep pitches in front of him. His glove work stood out as well, being able to frame all edges of the strike zone, keeps a stiff wrist while receiving pitches. At the plate, he showed some pull side pop; gets his arms extended and uses his lower half to drive the ball.

Sophomore RHP Lewis Pettit (Bolivar-Richburg HS / Finger Lakes CC)
Lean athletic pitcher with plus run on fastball. Low 80’s FB with effective CH and ticking breaking CB. Was consistent in the zone keeping hitters off balance. Threw a no hitter vs Jefferson in 5 innings of work with 6K’s. Has only allowed 3 hits over 9 IP and 0 ER.

Freshman RHP Ethan Buckley (Bath-Haverling / Tompkins Cortland CC)
Very composed on the mound, featuring three effective pitches. Flashed a FB low to mid 80s, a tight breaking CB and a CH that mixed in well. Went 5 innings against Jefferson CC and totaled 10 strikeouts. 2-1 on the year with 24 K over 20 ⅔ IP. Sports a 3.92 ERA and has only allowed 11 hits on the year.

Sophomore LHP Conner Vandreason (Vernon-Verona-Sherrill / Onondaga CC)
At 6-foot-3, Vandreason has a projectable build; ¾ arm slot and displayed arm-side life on his FB. Showed flashes of his secondary offerings. Commands the lower half of the strike zone. Vandreason attacks the batter with a funky delivery that helps him hide the ball and create issues for batters. 3-1 on the year with an 0.86 ERA over 21 IP. Only 17 hits allowed while striking out 15 and only walking 3.

Sophomore OF Ryan Cole (Maine-Endwell HS / Lackawanna College)
Average, athletic build. Arm shows on-line accuracy with a hint of carry. Balanced approach in the box; drives through the ball with barrel control; handled off-speed well. Currently hitting .317 2ith 9 2B, 3B, HR and 19 RBI.

Sophomore RHP Yan Infante (George Washington HS / Ulster CC)
The Rio Grande University transfer features a proportional frame with a strong lower half; repeatable delivery from a low ¾ slot. Works in the low to mid 80’s with a two-tier slider/slurve. Stays around the plate; competes. 4-1 on the year with a 4.50 ERA. Has struck out 34 in 24 IP and only allowed 15 hits.

Freshman 3B Genesis Nunez (Newtown HS / Ulster CC)
Average; athletic build. Middle infielder type actions at 3B; can make the play on the move and crash the bunt. Accurate arm with easy carry; short quick release. A threat at the leadoff spot; can swing and miss on occasin but can work deep at-bats. Hitting .360 with  2 2B, 2 HR and 12 RBI.

Sophomore 2B Jason Ramos (James Monroe / Ulster CC)
Smaller frame but has plenty of bat speed; can juice a ball to the gap on occasion. Scrappy approach in the box; works the middle of the field. Steady hands at 2B, can spin the double play and pursue the flyball/pop up into no man’s land down the RF line. Under the radar type player that can add some depth to a 4 year roster. 5-for-13 (.385) in the Sullivan series with a 2B, 3B and 6 RBI. Ramos is hitting .382 on the year 2ith 3 2B, 3B and 11 RBI.

Sophomore SS Jeresly Cicila (Trinity Christian Academy / Erie CC)
Athletic build for the Curacao native. Active feet, always involved in the play. Effortless arm across the diamond. At the plate, leadoff guy, aggressive early in the count. Two hard line drives in the middle of the field and oppo. Outs were all line outs oppo. Good day (4/6) at the plate against Corning. Above average speed on the base paths. Hitting .411 on the year with 5 2B, 5 3B and 18 RBI.


Sophomore OF Kevin Walter (Lancaster HS / Erie CC)

Lean build; simple swing. Didn’t miss FB’s. Drove the ball all over the field against Corning (4/6). 1B, 2B, and HR in game 1. Defensively, not very flashy. Makes the routine plays and hits the cut. Solid Corner OF. Sneaky speed on the bases. Was hitting .389 coming into the game. Hitting .413 on the year with 2 HR and 17 RBI, also has swiped 12 bags.

Sophomore C Mike Flemming (Maryvale HS / Erie CC)
Athletic build. LHH C. Hits in the middle of the lineup. Made solid contact throughout the day. Showed some opposite field pop game one with a double. Patient at the plate. A little stiff but strong. Defensively, quick on throws to the bag. Above average arm, quick feet. 3 for 3 throwing out runners game 1 (4/6). Average receiving and blocking. Shows some feel, keeps the game going and high IQ. Hitting a robust .449 on the year with 8 2B, 2 3B and 2 HR with 24 RBI.

Freshman SS Giovanni Diaz (Christopher Columbus HS / Sullivan CC)
Several highlight reel plays vs. Ulster CC; went into the 5-6 hole on multiple occasions making difficult picks; showing a quick release and enough arm to get across the diamond. Show glove side range with a diving spin play to nab another Ulster runner. Went 9-for-18 (.500) on the week with a 3B, 5 R, 3 RBI and 2 SB. Hitting .408 (31-for-76) on the year with 4 2B, 4 3B, HR and 19 RBI. Has scored 25 runs for the 12-11 Generals.
