OK Underclass Prospect Games: Corner Infielders Analysis

On October 29th, Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma held it inaugural event, the OK Underclass Prospect Games, in Edmond Oklahoma. Nearly 70 players from around the state from the 2018, 2019, and 2020 classes attended the event.

Player profiles have been updated with profile pictures, stats, and videos. In days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position. Today, we will take an in-depth look at the middle infielders. Overall, a strong group that flashed pop. Though many of the corner infielders on this list are two-way players, they will be covered here as corner defenders.  Click on the player’s name to see their full profile.

Michelle Artzberger,1B, MacArthur HS (2019)    
A 5-foot-11, 175-pound proportional frame. Offensively, left-handed hitter, middle-pull approach with doubles arch. Open set-up with rhythm, moderate knee-knock leg kick,  uphill bat path, some pop to the pull side, consistent barrels, 81 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.47 60. Defensively, average feet and hands, loose 3/4 slot, accurate, 72 mph to third base. Artzberger had a base hit through the right side along with two strikeouts.

Tyler Dean, 3B, Latta HS (2018)
A 6-foot-3, 185-pound projectable frame with long legs. Offensively, right-handed hitter, best when driving the ball to the opposite field using long levers and some bat speed. Balanced stance, knee-knock leg kick, slight arm bar, some length, 88 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.87 60. Defensively, good hands, loose, clean 3/4 slot, accurate, 78 mph across the diamond.

Emanuel Duran, 1B,Broken Arrow (2019)
A 6-foot-1, 240-pound frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, all fields, flat approach.  Slightly narrow, upright stance, small stride, late heel plant, short to the ball, good hands, some easy pop to all fields when barreled, could have even more juice with more backside  turn(swinging with a hurt hamstring), exit velo 86 mph. Duran went 1/3 in the game with a base hit up the middle.

Dax Fulton, 1B, Mustang HS (2020)
A 6-foot -4, 195-pound physically advanced frame, still with room to add strength. Offensively, left-handed hitter, middle of the field, line drive approach, a good round of BP. Slightly narrow set-up, reverse toe-tap for timing, flat bat path through contact, quality leg drive, high finish, 82 mph exit velo.  Runs a 7.93 60. Defensively, relatively quick actions, slightly choppy at times, high-3/4 slot, 73 mph to third base with accuracy. In-game, Fulton went 1/2 with a walk and drove a double deep into the left-center gap.

Carson Funkhouser, 3B, Fletcher HS (2019)
A 6-foot-4, 220-pound physically advanced frame, broad shoulders and strength. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle of the field, line drive approach. Balanced, athletic stance, slight leg kick, some length, smooth hands, good extension, easy pop, put multiple balls off the wall, 90 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.87 60. Defensively, methodical actions, some arm strength with carry and accuracy for a high-3/4 slot, 79 mph to first base. Funkhouser went 2/3 in the game with two singles up the middle and a strikeout.

Jared Gay, 1B, Piedmont HS (2020)
A 6-foot, 202-pound durable build with some strength. Offensively, left-handed hitter, middle-pull, flat approach. Wide set-up, no stride, small load, flat bat path through contact, some hand strength, 63 exit velo. Defensively, average feet, above average hands, stiff, over the top slot, 72 mph position velo. Runs a 7.59 60. In-game, Gay went 1/2 with a double over the center fielders head.

Jake Harris, 1B, Union HS (2018)
              
A 5-foot-11, 225-pound frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, mostly flat, opposite field approach.  Relaxed, upright set-up, some rhythm, slight leg lift, arm bar, downward angle of attack, 84 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.97 60. Defensively, methodical actions, short, 3/4 slot, 66 mph to third base.  Harris went 0/2 with a walk in-game.

Johnathan Johnson, 1B, Dale HS (2020)
A 6-foot, 160-pound slender build, long legs, room to add size and strength. Offensively, right-handed hitter, mostly flat, all fields approach. Quiet relaxed set-up, short stride and late heal plant for timing, flat plane through contact, 79 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.78 60. Defensively, quick actions, average hands, short quick release, 69 mph to third base.  Johnson went 1/2 with a line drive up the middle and two walks.

Coit Morton, 3B, Edmond Memorial HS (2019)
A 5-foot-11, 155-pound athletic frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-oppo, line drive approach, some hand strength. Narrow stance, rocking , smooth load, slight arm bar, quick hands, rotational swing, flat through contact, 81 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.5 60. Defensively, correct angles, quick to the ball, good hands and feet, high-3/4 slot, 78 mph to first base. In-game, Morton was 1/3 with two walks and single up the middle.

Gage Ninness, Westmoore HS (2019)
A 5-foot-9, 150-pound frame with room to grow. Offensively, right-handed hitter, pull approach in BP. Balanced stance, coil load and leg kick, sort to the ball, creates some bat speed, 86 mph exit velo. Defensively, consistent hands, clean actions, high-3/4 slot, 77 mph to first base. Made a few hard plays during the game. Went 0/2 but hit a line drive hard at the left fielder.

Lane Porter, 3B, Carl Albert HS (2018)
A 5-foot-10, 170-pound proportional frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-oppo, flat approach, found barrels. Relaxed, upright, open stance, big stride, loose hands, flat through contact, 83 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.47 60. Defensively, average hands, some stiffness, makes plays, 3/4 slot,  some accuracy, 75 mph across the diamond. In-game, Porter went 0/3 with a walk and a strikeout.

 Jack Pritchard, 3B, Yukon HS (2018)
A 6-foot-1, 178-pound athletic build with long legs. Offensively, right-handed hitter, pull gap approach with doubles arch. Upright, narrow, open set-up, big knee-knock leg kick, slightly uphill bat path, some pop when he gets good extension, 87 mph exit velo. Defensively, average hands and feet, high-3/4 slot, 78 mph across the infield. In-game, Pritchard went 1/2  with a strikeout and a triple to the wall and a strikeout.                 

Sam Replogle, 3B, Home School (2019)  
A 5-foot-11, 165-pound, frame with room to grow. Offensively, right-handed hitter, opposite field approach. Wide, upright stance, big knee-knock leg kick, hand pump, handsy swing, 81 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.69 60. Defensively, good hands, average feet, very accurate arm, 73 mph to first base. In-game, Replogle went 2/3 with two base hits, a walk, HPB, and a strikeout. 

Colby Routh, 1B, Edmond Memorial HS (2020)
A 5-foot-10, 150-pound slender frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, oppo on a line, pull on the ground approach. Balanced, athletic stance, small reverse toe-tap, flat path through contact, 82 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.31 60. Defensively, methodical actions, clean 3/4 slot, 74 mph to third base.

Brett Russell , 3B, Enid HS (2019)              
A 5-foot-11, 175-pound proportional build with some strength. Offensively, right-handed hitter, gap-to-gap approach, doubles arch, some pop. Balanced athletic stance, rhythm in the load, short stride, late heel plant,  short to the ball, slightly uphill bat path, good round of BP, 82 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.63 60.  Defensively, good feet, flashed a clean backhand, high-3/4 slot, 79 mph to first base. Russell went 0/3 with two walks, an HPB, and two strikeouts.  

Jacob Savage, 3B, Latta HS (2018)
A 6-foot, 195-pound durable build, some strength. Offensively, right-handed hitter, pull approach, some pop. Back leg heavy, slightly open stance, short stride, some length in the swing, uphill bat path, 83 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.72 60. Defensively, advanced hands and feet, high-3/4 slot, some arm strength with carry, 82 mph across the diamond. Overall, a very good defender.  In-game, Savage went 0/3 with a walk and two strikeouts.

Jaken Snider, 3B, Elgin HS (2018)              
A 6-foot, 215-pound frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, pull approach, lots of barrels, shows pull-pop, one of the best rounds of BP on the day. Wide, athletic stance, reverse toe-tap, flat path through contact, creates lift and back spin, strong hands, 85 mph exit velo. Runs an 8.13 60. Defensively, soft hands, 3/4  slot, 76 mph to first base. In-game, Snider went 0/2 with a walk.

Josh Soliz, 1B, Edmond North HS (2018)
A 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame with broad shoulders and long legs. Offensively, left-handed hitter, all fields approach, some pop.  Narrow, balanced stance, smooth knee-knock load, good hands, some bat speed, 85 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.5 60. Defensively,  some stiff actions, 3/4 slot, 67 mph to third base. In-game, was one of the offensive stars of the day going 2/2 with a left-on-left oppo double that got to the wall, another oppo double, and a walk.

C.D. White, 1B, Owasso HS (2018)
A 6-foot-2, 210-pound frame with strength. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle of the field approach, shows good pop and hand strength, putting multiple balls off the center field wall. Wide, balanced, athletic stance, smooth load, small stride, late heel plant, short to the ball, excellent hand strength, 89 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.62 60.  Defensively, a bit stiff at times, makes the average plays, short, over the top arm action, 76 mph to third base. White went 0/3 with two strikeouts.

Kyle Woods, 3B, Mount St. Marry HS (2019)
A 6-foot, 165-pound frame with room to add size and strength.  Offensively, right-hitter, middle-pull, flat approach. Upright, balanced stance, slow and big knee-knock leg kick for timing, flat to contact, exaggerated high finish, flashed some bat speed, 84 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.53 60. Defensively, average hands and feet, high 3/4 slot, 76 mph across the infield. Woods went 1/2 with a single over the first baseman.
