OKC Select Wood Bat League, Covered By PBR

Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma is excited to announce its coverage of the OKC Select Wood Bat League. The league features more than 160 players from 13 teams in two divisions-16U and 18U. The games take place at high school and college campuses around the Oklahoma City area. Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays only, and will conclude on the third weekend of November. PBR Oklahoma will attend at least two games for each team in the league. A scout blog will be written about each game covered. The scout blog will highlight players that impacted the game or showed high level talent. Below, is a list of players in the league to watch for.

OK Sluggers
Jordan Compton, SS/RHP, Carl Albert HS (2018)

A 5-foot-11, 170-pound lean build. Offensively, switch hitter, more consistent from the right, middle of the field approach, bat speed, some pop to the pull gap. Back leg heavy set-up, some rhythm in the hands, small stride, slightly uphill path produces backspin. Defensively, quick, accurate arm, average hands, flashes improved footwork. On the mound, smooth delivery, average effort, short arm circle, 3/4 slot. Fastball sits 82-84 and can touch 85 mph, late arm-side run with sink. Curveball has 11/5, good depth, 70-71 mph.

Brock Shreiner, 2B/SS, Choctaw HS (2018)
A 6-foot, 160-pound athletic frame. Elite runner, reported 6.59 60, 4.54 on the turn to second. Defensively, excellent lateral movement, quick hands, developing arm strength. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, quick hands. Balanced wide stance, short stride, short to the ball, flat path to contact.

Kale Davis, RHP/3B/C, ,Mustang HS (2019)
A 6-foot-2, 190-pound athletic build, long limbs, proportional strength. On the mound, fluid delivery, good rhythm, over the top slot, upright finish. Fastball keeps its plane, 83-85, curveball has 12/6 shape, 70-73, slider has cutting action, 75-76. Defensively, at third base, athletic, clean actions, arm slot and strength translate well. Behind the dish, flexible hips, flashes signs of improved receiving, multiple 2.2 in game pops. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, balanced, athletic stance, good rhythm, short stride. Short to the ball, extension through contact, bat speed.

OK Rebels
Alex Andrews, SS, Edmond Santa Fe HS (2018)

A 5-foot-11, 155-pound wiry frame, room to add size and strength. Defensively, good angles, sure hands, accurate arm with carry, clean actions, natural instincts. Made tough backhand plays look routine. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, stays behind the baseball. Upright open stance, leg kick, level plane through contact.

Norman Timberwolves
Parker Tipton, RHP/OF, Norman North HS (2019)

A 5-foot-11, 180-pound athletic build, strength in the lower half. On the mound, slow, controlled delivery, over the top arm slot, fast, loose arm. Fastball sits 81-83, touches 84, slightly down hill angle. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle of the field approach, some bat speed. Athletic, wide stance, aggressive load, short stride, short to contact, flat path through contact, some strength in hands. In-game 4.52 home-to-first. Defensively, athletic actions in the outfield, athletic enough to play some infield as well.

Backspinn Baseball
Kade Chinn, RHP, Jones HS (2017)

A 6-foot-2, 175-pound lean frame with room to add strength. Fluid delivery, clean, 3/4 slot, loose arm out front, release point somewhat inconsistent. Fastball sits 77-80 mph, some sink when arm side. Slider shows lots of depth, 67-69 mph, 10/4 shape, often buckling hitters. Change up sat 72 mph, some fade.

Bishop McGuinness
Griffin Charles, RHP/1B, Bishop McGuinness HS (2017)

A 6-foot-4, 225-pound mature, thick, strong build. On the mound, slow, controlled windup, sinks into backside, over the top slot. Fastball kept its plane, sat 79-81 mph. Curveball had 11/5 shape, 62-63 mph. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle pull approach. Balanced stance, big load, toe tap stride for timing, some length, strong hands.

Choctaw Jackets
Jordan Brewer, LHP, Choctaw HS (2020)

A 5-foot-11, 140-pound slender frame, lots of room to add size and strength, high ceiling. Works with a up-tempo, athletic delivery, high leg kick, short arm action in the back, quick our front, 3/4 slot. Fastball sits 77-80 mph, consistent arm-side run, with control. Breaking ball shows slurve action, 67-68 mph, flashes tight spin. Changeup, 69-70 mph, some sink.
