Oklahoma Winter Open I.D.: LHP Analysis

On December 18th, Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma held its second event, the Oklahoma Winter Open I.D., in Yukon Oklahoma . Over 40 players from around the state from every high school class attended the event while college coaches and a pro scout took note.

Player profiles have been updated with profile pictures, stats, and videos. In days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position. Today, we will take an in-depth look at left-handed pitchers. Though many of the arms here are two-way players, they will be covered here as pitchers. Hunter Burnett, Edmond North HS (2019)
A 6-foot-1, 180-pound durable build. Uses a clean delivery with average tempo and some rhythm. Short arm circle in the back, slight pause before coming through, 3/4 slot with some fluidity. Fastball sits 79-81 mph with some run and flashed late sink when down in the zone. Slider shows 2/8 shape with late bite at times, 72-73 mph. Changeup is thrown with full arm speed, some sink, 74-75.

Cash Colvin, Tuttle HS, (2018)
A 6-foot-3, 210-pound proportional and thick frame. Works from a simple and slow delivery with repeatability.  Arm drops straight down out of the break with a quick change of direction, high-3/4 slot. Fastball has constant downhill tilt and deception that flashes some run at 80-82 mph, commanded when in rhythm.  Changeup sits 75-76 mph.

Jacob Hearn, Oklahoma Christian Academy (2017)
A 6-foot, 160-pound lean build. Uses a controlled windup that flashes some fluidity. Abbreviated arm circle with a high-3/4 slot. Fastball sits 7-73 mph, some downhill action, flashes some sink. Changeup shows fade at 67-68 mph. Throws mostly strikes.

Grant Reeves, Moore HS (2017)
A 6-foot-2, 185-pound proportional build. Pitches from a simple, controlled delivery with a fast arm out front. Small and clean arm circle, high-3/4 slot. Fastball shows some arm side run, 77-79 mph, consistent strikes. Breaking ball has slurve action, and good depth when down, spun out at times, 66-69 mph.  Straight changeup, 73-75 mph, some command.

Brandon Rutledge, McAlester HS (2018)
A 5-foot-8, 150-pound athletic build. Works from the stretch, short leg kick, short, fast, stiff arm action, high-3/4 slot.  Fastball flashed late run when thrown arm side  at 80-83 mph. Slider sits 69-71 mph with 2/8 shape and late acition. Curveball rolls with consistent 1/7 shape, 6-66 mph. Consistently around the zone with all three pitches.

Charlie Wirtz, Perry HS (2018)
A 6-foot-1, 165-pound slender build with lots of room to add size and strength. Works from a average tempo delivery with good rhythm. Uses a full and fluid arm circle, 3/4 slot, loose and whippy arm action.  Fastball shows late run and some sink, down to 73-75 mph from the 81 he showed this fall. Slider ranged 64-67 mph, flashed some depth, spun out at times. Changeup sits 63 mph with some fade.
