Scouting Report

Physical: 5-foot-10, 190 pounds; strong, physical frame. 7.48 runner in the 60.
Offensively: RHH. Simple setup with a wide base; small leg lift for timing. aggressive with strong hands whip through the barrel through the zone quickly; 16 degree bat angle into the zone via Blast Motion. Martinez is able to produce 17.4 G’s of force with an on-plane efficiency of 66%.  Consistent hard contact; average Trackman exit velocity of 86 MPH; peak exit velo was 97 MPH.
Defensively: One knee setup when receiving, offset, wider setup when throwing; strong lower half, consistent clean footwork coming out of the crouch. smooth hands with a solid transfer; short arm swing with a 3/4 arm slot. 1.85-1.92 pop times. C - 79 MPH.

 

2/16/20

 

One of the most physical prospects in attendance over two days. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and uses a lift-and-replace stride to begin. Showcased a compact, repeatable swing with little wasted motion. Stays in legs well and creates consistent backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 89 mph and ran a 7.33 60-yard dash. Displayed quiet receiving skills behind the dish with pop times of 2.09-2.15 on throws of 76 mph out of the crouch.

5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a direct swing path with above average strength in his lower half. Registered a bat exit velocity of 87 mph and ran a 7.50 60-yard dash. Fundamentally sound behind the plate with solid straight line carry on throws of 76 mph from the crouch with pop times of 2.06-2.13.

 

2/01/18

 

5-foot-10, 165-pound solid frame. Athletic on line stance, hands close with vertical bat, loads to a slight crouch with hands back, lands on line after a lift to stride. Hands are quick and show some strength through the zone with an exit velo of 84 mph. Lower half is explosive on finish and showed some balance. Behind the plate showed a clean exchange, a short quick arm action to a low three-quarter release with a positional velocity of 67 mph and a pop time range of 2.16-2.18. Ran the 60 in 7.75

 

1/28/18

 

5-foot-10, 165-pound backstop showcased pop times of 2.21-2.27 on throws of 68 mph from the crouch. Displayed a short arm stroke and quick release. Currently fails to fully incorporate back side in throwing motion. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Showed a feel for the barrel with a line drive approach and a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Ran a 7.56 60-yard dash.
