Fall Kickoff Showcase Analysis: Class of 2021 Position Players

The Fall Kickoff Showcase took place on August 15th at historic Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary position players from the Class of 2021.

Class of 2021 Top Prospect

Kyle MusserKyle Musser, Manheim Township HS, OF
5-foot-11, 175-pounder displayed the well-rounded skill set that currently has him ranked No. 78 in the PA Class of 2021. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a controlled leg hang stride. Displayed balance throughout while continually peppering the middle of the field with feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 89 mph and ran an event best 6.82 60-yard dash. Completed his day by showing athletic, fluid defensive actions with solid carry on throws of 81 mph from the outfield.

Class of 2021 Prospects (in alphabetical order)

Brock Bollinger, Palmerton HS, C
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitter with an athletic frame. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed balance throughout with a feel for the barrel and the ability to use all fields. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 7.53 60-yard dash. Quiet receiver with quick feet and a clean transition. Current 2.16-2.23 pop times will continue to improve as 69 mph arm strength improves.

Dean Davis, Hempfield HS, C
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to begin. Displayed a line drive approach with minimal use of his lower half. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.78 60-yard dash. Showcased solid receiving skills with clean transfers on throws of 69 mph from the crouch leading to pop times of 2.19-2.28. Solid frame has room to add proportional strength that will benefit overall skill set moving forward.

Shane Devereux, Malvern Prep, SS/RHP
5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Showed good rhythm with a line drive approach and a feel for the barrel to all fields. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.40 60-yard dash. Showcased a soft glove hand and active feet while making plays on the move defensively with 81 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty also worked off the mound in game action during the game portion of the event sitting 77-78 out of a high 3/4 arm slot while also mixing in a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 69-70.

Cooper Fiore, Pottsgrove HS, C
5-foot-8, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly-open stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to begin. Showcased a line drive approach with a feel for the barrel to the middle of the field. Registered a bat exit velocity of 85 mph and ran a 7.28 60-yard dash. Displayed sound defensive mechanics with quick feet defensively. Recorded pop times of 2.13-2.20 on throws of 71 mph from the crouch. 

Asa Henderson, Cambridge Springs HS, SS/RHP
5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a pull oriented swing with a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 77 mph and ran a 7.44 60-yard dash. Displayed sound defensive mechanics with accurate 73 mph arm strength across the diamond best suited for second base. The righty also sat 74-75 from a high 3/4 arm slot off the mound working solely out of the stretch. Pounded the zone with a feel for three pitches. Curveball showed short 11/5 break at 59-61 and changeup at near fastball arm speed sat 70-71.

Matthew Reichley, Faith Christian Academy, OF/RHP
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Frequently loses his lower half in a pull oriented, line drive swing. Registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 7.76 60-yard dash. Played through the baseball with regularity and showcased accurate 78 mph arm strength from the outfield. The righty also sat 74-76 off the mound from a high 3/4 arm slot while working solely out of the stretch. Curveball showed 11/5 rotation at 62-65 and changeup was thrown at near fastball arm speed at 65-66.

Maxwell Rogers, Bellefonte Area HS, SS
6-foot, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a quick, leg-lift stride to begin. Displayed quick hands with a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 76 mph and ran a 7.39 60-yard dash. Showcased developing defensive skills with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Overall game will benefit from strength gains through physical maturity. Long, lean frame has room to add significant strength moving forward.
