Game Recap: West Perry at Camp Hill

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

A mid-80s day in early May conducive to hitting turned into a good old fashioned pitcher's duel that ended in a 1-0 win for Camp Hill (14-4) over West Perry (17-2).  The win allowed Camp Hill to avenge a 6-2 loss to the Mustangs earlier this spring.

Michael HopeWest Perry lead-off hitter Tregg Liebel singled to start the top of the first inning and was sacrifice to second before senior righty Michael Hope got a strikeout and a fly ball to end the threat.  A lead-off walk, an errant pick-off attempt and a wild pitch set the Mustangs up with a runner at third with nobody out in the 3rd inning, but again Hope worked his way out with an infield pop up, a strikeout and a ground ball to second to retire the side.  West Perry threatened one last time in the 6th inning getting two runners on with one out via a hit-by-pitch and a walk.  However, much like in previous innings, Hope registered a strikeout and a ground ball to first base to end the inning.

Camp Hill scored the game's only run in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Matt Ketterer walked, advanced to third base on a double by Andrew Freedenberg and scored on a sacrifice fly by Hunter Artz.

Ben Dum was the hard luck loser allowing one run on three hits while striking out five.  The VCU recruit entered the game having struck out 81 batters on the season while only walking four.  Dum did not have his normal command issuing two walks on the evening, including a walk to the lone batter to cross the plate on the evening.

As dominant as Dum was for West Perry, Hope was even better.  The 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior allowed just two hits while striking out 12, including eight in the final four frames.  Hope put an exclamation on his performance by striking out the side in the 7th inning, sandwiched around a one out walk.
