2022 RHP Eddie Smink gave his Henderson teammates every opportunity to top one of the top high school teams in the state on Thursday, but it wasn't quite enough. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound freshman worked five solid innings allowing just two runs and six hits.
Malvern Prep got a lead off single from Virginia recruit Chris Newell and a sacrifice fly from Clemson commit Lonnie White to jump to a 1-0 lead after one.
Henderson answered with a run in the top of the 3rd on an two-out RBI single from 2020 shortstop Casey Caufield. Malvern Prep got the lead back in the bottom of the inning on a single from White for his second RBI in as many at bats.
The Friars were able to scratch across a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to take a 4-2 lead into the 7th and in spite of allowing a run, 2020 RHP Ryan Muntz was able to coax a strikeout with the tying run in scoring position to secure the 4-3 win.
2020 RHP Josh Paulina picked up the win with two innings of relief work after four solid innings from starter Gavin Grande. Uncommitted 2020 2B/RHP Jarod Wade led all hitters with a 3-for-3 night with a run scored.
Malvern Prep improved to 17-2 on the season with the win. West Chester Henderson fell to 4-6 with the loss.
