Looking At The Future's Past

The 2015 Prep Baseball Report Future Games begin next Thursday at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. In the last few years, the Future Games have become a recruiting hotbed with more than 100 coaches from dozens of colleges coming in to get a look at uncommitted underclassmen. This year should be even bigger with the field being expanded to 14 teams, representing states in the PBR coverage area. With our weekly Hotlist, we’ve taken a look at some of the talent that will be in attendance this year, including the top position players and pitchers. Here, we’ll take a look at the past, highlighting some top performers that have continued to make a name for themselves in baseball.

Jake Godfrey, RHP, Providence Catholic HS, IL (Louisiana State)
One of the top pitchers at the 2012 Future Games, Godfrey showed feel for four pitches, touching 91 mph with his fastball while sitting 88-89 with heavy arm-side sink. His best secondary offering was a high-70s slider and he mixed in a curveball and changeup too. Godfrey verbally committed to Notre Dame later and then made the usual stops on the showcase circuit as a rising senior. He ended up switching his commitment to Louisiana State early in his spring season. Godfrey didn’t live up to expectations that year and fell to the Braves in the 21st round of the 2014 Draft—a combination of his performance and signability. He had a solid start to his career at LSU, pitching in the weekend rotation early for the Tigers and finished the season with a 7-1 record and 4.61 ERA. He pitched 54.2 innings across 21 appearances (nine starts). He’ll likely be a key piece to LSU’s rotation for another two years.
