Recap of Team Pennsylvania's Hitters at the Midwest Future Games

The 2012 Prep Baseball Report Midwest Future Games showcased arm after arm touching the upper 80's and low 90's. As impressive, or maybe even more so, was the ability of the hitters to square up this level of pitching consistently.

Team Pennsylvania got off to a fast start in its first game of the weekend against Team Michigan when Deon Stafford Jr. (Lower Dauphin) led off the top of the second inning with a single. Aaron Fritz (Minersville) moved Stafford Jr. to third base with a single of his own. Shane Connahan (Midd-West) picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly to score Stafford Jr. and give Team Pennsylvania a 1-0 lead. Scott Pierce (Austintown Fitch, OH) followed with a single that allowed a run to score following a Team Michigan error.

With two outs Brendan McKay (Blackhawk) unloaded on a triple to the 400' sign in center field to push Team Pennsylvania's lead to 4-0.

Team Pennsylvania scored its fifth and final run in the seventh inning when Shane Connahan led off the inning with a double and later scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Ryan Megyesi (Cardinal Mooney, OH).

Game two of the weekend was against a team that had scored 12 runs and had hit five home runs the previous day, Team Missouri. Instead of an offensive explosion, pitchers for both teams were able to keep both offenses off the scoreboard until the top of the fifth inning when Missouri plated a run. Team Pennsylvania responded with all three of its runs in the bottom half of the innning.

Jamie Switalski (Pine Richland) led off the inning with a single and advanced to second base on Shane Connahan's single. With one out both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Brendan McKay drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly, his third RBI of the weekend. Pennsylvania tacked on two more runs as Cody Bain (Blackhawk) and Ted Williams (Meadville) both reached home plate via an error and a wild pitch.

The final game of the weekend for Team Pennsylvania was against Team Illinois. Illinois jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning, but Team Pennsylvania was able to tie the game with two runs in the second inning and took its only lead of the game with a single run in the top of the third inning.

The two run outburst in the second inning was started with singles by Chistian Porterfield (West Middlesex) and Deon Stafford Jr.. Jamie Switalski provided a two-run single to send the game to the third inning at 2-2.

In the third inning, Ryan Megyesi singled, advanced to second base on a fielder's choice, and scored when Dominic Cuoci (LaSalle College) doubled to the gap in right center field.

On the weekend Shane Connahan went 4-for-5 with an RBI. Jamie Switalski and Aaron Fritz each went 3-for-6. Dominic Cuoci went 2-for-5. Christian Porterfield and Deon Stafford Jr. each went 2-for-6.

Brendan McKay and Jamie Switalski led Team Pennsylvania with three RBI each.
