As its reputation and the number of states represented grows, the PBR Future Games are increasingly becoming a can't-miss spectacle for college coaches. At this year's event, for example, nearly two-thirds of the pitchers in attendance recorded a fastball of 85-mph or better. Representing the Keystone State, Team PA saw six of its eight pitchers reach or surpass that mark, while there were a number of standout performances on the position player side as well. To-date, six prospects from the Team PA roster have since given a verbal commitment to a college program.
Name | State | School | Class | Pos | Commitment |
Liam Bendo | PA | Garnet Valley | 2017 | SS | St. Joseph's |
Brendan Cellucci | PA | William Penn Charter | 2017 | LHP | Miami |
Brandon Knarr | PA | Eastern York | 2017 | LHP | Notre Dame |
Zach Kokoska | PA | Greater Latrobe | 2017 | LHP/OF | Virginia Tech |
Kris Kremer | PA | Hershey | 2017 | SS | Penn State |
Kyle Virbitsky | PA | Episcopal Academy | 2017 | RHP | Penn State |
The left-handed hitting Bendo and right-handed hitting Kremer both possess solid across-the-board measureables, some feel to hit, and the ability to stay at shortstop at the next level.
ACC-bound Cellucci and Knarr are an interesting case study when juxtaposed against each other. Cellucci has a highly projectable 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame and immense upside, although his command and secondary stuff are not as refined as the more polished, but less projectable, 5-foot-11, 200-pound Knarr.
Coaches we heard from seemed to be split on whether Kokoska's future is on the mound or with the bat, and the Hokies intend to allow the toolsy 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitter to try his hand at both for as long as he proves capable.
Virbitsky competed as a two-way player at the event, but there is little doubt that his future lies on the mound, as he possesses two quality secondary pitches, good arm speed, and the ability to get downhill from his 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame.
