The action on Sunday saw the position players at the event become more comfortable at the plate. There were strong performances all around with hard hit balls and longer at-bats become more commonplace. After seeing the promise that each player showcased on the first day, it was a fun, Sunday, watching it all come together for them. In the next few weeks, more information from the event including workout day statistics as well as some of the top players that the PBR staff saw will be broken down in more depth. Until then, here are some of the position players that stood out in a packed day of action from Sunday:

+ 2019 OF/RHP Garrett Runyan (Edison HS, CA) found the barrel multiple times on the day as he smashed a deep triple to left centerfield before finishing his day with a double to deep left field. Watching him run around the bases, it was easy to notice the athleticism that he has, and combined with a very strong arm, he has a strong foundation to build on moving forward. His smooth path combined with some twitchy actions should help him in his continued progression at the plate.

+ 2021 INF Cody Schrier (JSerra Catholic HS, CA) showed off his athleticism all weekend, and his actions are advanced for his age. Still maturing into his long frame, Schrier will be aided by more muscle in the future, but until then, there is a very solid foundation to build on. He singled up the middle in his first at-bat up the middle. Schrier plays the game hard, and always seems to be in the right spot at the right time when in the field.

+ 2019 C Adam Dapkewicz (Davis HS, CA) is a left-handed hitting backstop who finished his Fall Classic with a line drive single in the final game. The 6-foot, 165-pounder exhibits some strength throughout his frame, and his barrel shows some lag through the zone. Setting up open in a crouch, Dapkewicz loads with a quick knee-knock with a minor hands load that leads to a short, strong path to the ball. His barrel works uphill, and he demonstrated the ability to work from gap to gap with line drives.

+ 2020 INF Tino Bethancourt (Oak Ridge HS, CA), a San Diego State recruit, has the tall, projectable, athletic frame that isn’t hard to dream on. He found his way on base with some hard contact including a single in his first at-bat, and there is certainly more power on the way. Bethancourt’s hands load smoothly down and back with a leg kick before working slightly uphill through the zone.

+ 2021 SS Davis Diaz (Acalanes HS, CA) has an advanced, mature approach at the plate, and worked another walk on the final day, but it was two balls that he hit that really stood out. Setting up crouched, and featuring a smaller load, Diaz quickly drove through two balls that jumped off the bat. He exhibits the ability to hit the ball to all fields, and stroked a line drive single to left field before lining out hard to centerfield. The handsy infielder also made a few excellent plays, and looks the part of a shortstop at the next level, already, at a young age.

+ 2019 C Steven Zobac (Valley Christian HS, CA) looks longer than his 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame, and has a frame that should continue to fill out in the future. Zobac roped a double to the right centerfield gap on Sunday to finish up his weekend. He features wide shoulders on his athletic frame. At the plate, Zobac sets up in a deeper crouch with his weight in his heels, and hands starting in front of his back shoulder. After a quick load back with a small heel lift without a stride, Zobac works uphill through the zone with some strength.

+ 2021 OF Brewster Mott (Vacaville HS, CA) drove a double into the right centerfield gap in his first at-bat, and took some solid swings throughout the event. Mott’s path works uphill through the zone, and while it shows some smoothness, it will be helped significantly in the future when his lanky, athletic frame fills out and adds strength.

+ 2018 OF Robbie Hamchuk (Leigh HS, CA) hit the ball hard all day, and was finally rewarded for it in his final at-bat with a double. He features a simple load, and short path to the ball. Hamchuk found the barrel multiple times throughout the tournament, and shows some overall athleticism in the way he plays the game.
