Top Prospect Games: DFW - Quick Hits Part 2

Brandon Gowins
Assistant Scouting Director

FORT WORTH, TX - Last week, PBR Texas had our DFW Top Prospect Games at TCU and it was one of the more impressive rosters that we have ever had.  This event was invite only and for 2023-2026 grads. With as much talent as there was, we will break the Quick Hits into a few installments. In part 2 we take a look at the second 10 players that stood out on Tuesday Night.

+ QUICK HITS PART 1

Brennan Greer 3B / RHP / Ronald Reagan , TX / 2023

Greer had a really nice night at TCU.  The SA Reagan product showed up looking more physical and the numbers backed it up. He had a max exit velocity of 97 and impressive bat speed registering at 77.7. He has a high baseball IQ and it shows with his footwork around the bag at 1st.  Where Greer really stood out is on the mound.  He has always been able to sink it and fill up the zone, but on this night we saw a nice velo jump.  Greer topped out at 91 and sat 89-90 for his outing.  He still showed his strike throwing ability and he also added a short slider/cutter in the 82-84 range that generates a lot of weak contact.  Greer is a high academic kid and he shouldn’t be available much longer.

Andrew Schultz 1B / RHP / Coppell, TX / 2023

Schultz is a physical LHH from Coppell who has power potential to all fields.  He smoked a ball in the game to pretty deep CF and also had a loud round of bp.  He had a max Exit Velo of 96 with some really impressive blast numbers.  His bat speed was 77.8 and a rotational acceleration of 24.3. When he stays Gap to Gap with his approach, he has the ability to leave the yard at any time.   Schultz continues to improve at 1st as well.  He picked multiple balls and showed good footwork around the bag.

Brady Gray C / 2B / Farmersville, TX / 2024

It isn’t often you get excited to watch somebody catch, but Gray is a treat to watch behind the plate.  He takes control behind the plate, but also does a great job of helping his pitcher.  He is a quality receiver who does a good job on both sides of the plate.  He is a technician when it comes to blocking the ball and never allows it to travel very far from his body.  He also was the only to register a pop time under 2, with a 1.99. At the plate, the LHH continues to improve and smoked a 2B in the game.  The swing has shortened up a little, allowing him to get the barrel to the ball more frequently.  Gray is a frontline catcher defensively, and if he starts tapping into his power at the plate we will start hearing his name more and more.

Colton Roquemore SS / 2B / Argyle, TX / 2024

Roquemore seemed to be everywhere at TCU on Tuesday night.  The LHH infielder made multiple nice plays in the field at all of the infield positions.  He showed his versatility and baseball IQ.  He is a 6.86 runner and it plays up with his anticipation. At the plate, he had a max exit velocity of 94 during the workout and hit multiple balls on the barrel throughout the game.  Roquemore is an exciting player who you can't help but notice every time you see him

T.J. McCraw RHP / OF / Wichita Falls, TX / 2024

We didn’t have a lot on McCraw coming into the event, but he definitely made his presence felt when it was his turn to take the mound.  McCraw has a projectable frame with plenty of filling out to do.  He had a fastball that topped out at 82 with plenty more to come.  He has a long loose arm that generates some ASR and sink on the fastball. His breaking ball had good shape to it, and as he gets stronger should be able to throw it harder and generate more S/M with it. He also throws a Changeup that he threw with good arm speed and conviction.  McCraw had a really good outing, and filled up the zone.  As McCraw continues to get stronger, he will be one to follow.

Berkeley Roddy RHP / Boswell, TX / 2024

One of the arms I was excited to see was Roddy.  I saw him earlier in the HS season and have been wanting to see him again. He had a great night.  His FB topped out at 91.4 and sat in the 88-90 range.  He also showed a breaking ball with good depth that generated some bad swings.  He has a sturdy build with broad shoulders and looks like a future innings eater or late inning reliever.  There is some head movement that he needs to quiet down to keep the starter profile, but there is a lot to like about Roddy on the mound.

Kade Irons LHP / OF / Ponder, TX / 2024

I hadn’t seen Irons pitch in almost a year, and he has made some serious jumps in that time.  He came out and showed more life on the fastball, topping out at 87. Even with the increase in velocity, he still showed the same heavy sink and ASR that he has always had.  He is tough to square up in the strike zone.  His Changeup has the same shape as his fastball in the mid 70’s and I thought the breaking  ball showed better bite on it. When Irons trusts his stuff and attacks the strike zone, he generates a lot of weak contact on the infield.

Josh Glaser 3B / RHP / Flower Mound, TX / 2024

Another player who I haven’t seen pitch in a while is Glaser.  And a lot like Irons, he has taken the  next step on the mound.  His fastball maxed out at 89 and was in the 87-88 range. He throws it with good command to both sides of the plate.  His best off speed pitch is his change up.  He throws it with good arm speed and conviction and looks like a fastball out of the hand. He throws a slow breaker with good shape that is a quality to pitch to steal strikes or get back in the count.  At the plate, Glaser also showed some juice with a max exit velo of 94.4. He was 88 across the diamond as well during the infield workouts.  Glaser goes to traditional power Flower Mound High, and will be a big part of what the Jaguars are trying to accomplish.

Nick Wesloski OF / SS / McKinney Boyd, TX / 2025

Wesloski has been an arm we have been wanting to see up close for some time and he showed some serious upside at TCU. The 6’2 Righty has a frame that you look for in a future Friday night guy. Long armed with a high waist, he took the mound and topped out at 86.  He sinks the fastball well, and it is at its best when it is at the bottom of the zone.  He also has a really good feel for his changeup that has the same shape as his fastball. The breaking ball has potential and as he gets stronger and throws it harder, should generate some swings and misses.  There is a lot of projection left in Wesloski, and as he matures I expect some big Velo gains.  He is also versatile in the field, being able to handle outfield and infield.  Wesloski is also a quarterback at Mckinney Boyd.

Mitchell Morton C / 3B / Plano West , TX / 2025

The JFG alum had a great night defensively during the game and workouts.  He showed a good arm in workouts and had a 2.03 pop time. Then in the game, he gunned down a would-be base stealer with a pop time of 1.94.  He has a quick release and accurate arm.   At the plate, he shows good bat speed with a max of 74.8 and has some pull side power.  Morton played a lot of 3rd base for his HS this past spring and showed soft hands and a strong arm. It will be fun to see him behind the plate next year in one of the toughest districts in Texas.
