2020 Overall Rankings Updated

The 2019 MLB Draft is well in the rearview mirror and as the 2020 class transitions into their senior year, it’s time to give the Overall Rankings a polish before heading into the fall season.

We have touted this group for a while now and there’s no reason to change that tune. There are up-the-middle athletes, premium arms and advanced bats at the top with plenty of depth to get major league organizations excited about June and college programs looking forward to what might show up on campus next fall.

For the first time in a year, there is a new No. 1, but honestly, there are several players with an argument for the top spot. For now, it’s OF Pete Crow-Armstrong (Harvard-Westlake HS, CA). The Vanderbilt recruit was recently named to his fourth USA National Team, as he is currently in South Korea to compete in the WBSC 18U World Cup. A left-handed hitter, he has at least average tools across the board and a high baseball IQ that makes him stand out everywhere he goes.

At No. 2 is LHP Nate Savino (Potomac Falls HS, VA). A Virginia recruit, he broke into the rankings a year ago at No. 11 and has been climbing ever since. With a tailing fastball that has been touching the mid 90s and a plus slider, he has the makings of being a frontline starter.

RHP Mick Abel (Jesuit HS, OR), an Oregon State recruit, checks in at No. 3. Extremely projectable at 6-foot-5, 185 pounds, he has an easy, loose delivery and plus fastball. He also mixes in an above-average slider with late bite and above-average changeup with fade.

Moving up to No. 4 is SS Ed Howard (Mount Carmel HS, IL), who has clearly established himself as the best middle infielder in the country. The Oklahoma recruit is an excellent athlete with easy actions on defense and a quick, smooth stroke from the right side.

Rounding out the top five is LHP Kyle Harrison (De La Salle HS, CA). Like Savino, he has a projectable frame, lively fastball and swing-and-miss breaking ball. He is committed to UCLA.

One of the most notable risers in the rankings is C Tyler Soderstrom (Turlock HS, CA), who finds himself at No. 9. The UCLA recruit had arguably the best summer of anybody, starting with a strong showing at the NorCal ProCase in June and finishing with a spot on Team USA. A left-handed hitter, he has burgeoning power and consistently made loud contact at every stop this summer. He is also a quiet receiver with smooth actions and an above average arm.

It should also be noted that two premium prospects reclassified from 2021 in RHP Alejandro Rosario (Miami Christian School, FL) and 3B Blaze Jordan (DeSoto Central HS, MS). Rosario stands at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, but possesses an electric arsenal that includes a fastball that he has run up to 97 in the past. He is committed to Miami. Jordan, a Mississippi State recruit, has big right-handed power and easily produces exit velocities in the triple digits when he connects.

Below is the top 10 of the 2020 Overall Rankings, as well as a link to the complete list.
