Milwaukee Future Prospect Showcase: Player Analysis

Last month, we held a future prospects showcase and educational event for 7th and 8th graders at Hitters Baseball Academy in Caledonia, Wisconsin. The event allowed us to give these players with next-level aspirations the opportunity to learn what the showcase circuit is like. We also got the chance to see, first-hand, just how bright the Milwaukee area’s future is when it comes to prep baseball.

Below, we’ve written reports on each of the players who attended the event. Continue reading on for a detailed look at how these budding talents performed. And in case you missed it, we published a statistical analysis following the event that highlighted some of the standout performers from a numerical standpoint.

FUTURE PROSPECT REPORTS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)

Ian Choi, SS, Case, 2022
5-foot-5, 115-pound infielder, smaller athletic body type. Defensively showed plus hands and actions for his age, plays through with excellent body control, quick hands and exchange will stick in the middle of the infield. Arm is accurate and athletic, loose from high ¾ slot, slight carry across, 75 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter, open stance, smooth loading action, short stride, lower half works. Swing plays loose, contact guy, works the middle of the field with line drive contact. 72 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.64 runner in the 60.

Hayden Christiansen, C, Richmond-Burton, 2022
5-foot-10, 148-pound catcher, solid build, should develop strength. Right-handed hitter balanced setup, athletic in the box, short stride and quiet. Short path, hard middle to pull side contact, creates bat speed, 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively shows athletic actions out of the crouch, natural receiver, commands the infield, soft hands and quick feet. Arm is short and over the top, slight carry, 69 mph. Pop times ranged 2.19-2.26. Ran the 60 at 7.71.

Braydon Cooper, RHP, Catholic Memorial, 2022
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed pitcher, lean frame will fill out. Stretch only delivery, tall and fall, works slightly across his body, closed landing, shoulders stay level. Easy effort from high ¾ slot, well above average arm strength at his age. Fastball showed live action, sinks hard at times 78-79 mph. Slider has 11/5 shape, big sweeping action with feel, control for strikes, 62-65 mph. Changeup sinks, slight deceleration, 64-69 mph.

Logan Dobberstein, RHP/3B, Pewaukee, 2022
6-foot-5, 170-pound two-way player, high ceiling prospect, frame projects, long and lean. On the mound delivery works in rhythm with tempo, tall and fall type, online and lands square, tall finish. Arm action is quick and loose, advanced arm speed, high ¾ slot. Fastball projects, hard finish through the zone, showed run to arm side, has feel, 77-80 mph, topped at 81 mph. Slider has sharp 11/5 action, well above average bite, has feel, 65-68 mph. Changeup thrown with fastball arm speed, slight fade to arm side, 70-72 mph. Splitter has some downer action, tilt, 71-73 mph. Left-handed hitter, balanced stance, short lifted stride. Aggressive swing, average balance, path is uphill, lifted contact. 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm is live, carries across, 78 mph. Corner infield projection, long actions. 8.03 runner in the 60.  

James Duncan, 1B/LHP, Arrowhead, 2022
6-foot, 150-pound left-handed two-way player, long lean frame, athletic shape, projects well. Offensively hits from an open setup, leg kick stride, athletic lower half, solid balance. Path is short with loose live hands, hands create above average bat speed. Spray line drive contact, 81 mph exit velocity from the tee, high upside bat. Defensively moves easy and athletic, natural actions both around the bag and in the outfield. Arm play loose and easy, 72 mph across the infield, 75 mph from the outfield. 7.44 runner in the 60. On the mound fastball plays with run to arm side, controls the zone, 71-73 mph, touched 74 mph. Changeup sinks, near fastball arm speed, ranged 59-64 mph.

Tristan Ellis, INF, St. Francis, 2022
5-foot-7, 138-pound left-handed hitting infielder. Slightly open setup, loads hands back into arm bar, slight leg lift stride. Loose hands, hard contact off the bat at times, path is long and uphill, pull side approach, 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm is loose, high ¾ slot, 73 mph across the diamond. Hands showed some softness, funnels the baseball to release, showed body control. 7.40 runner in the 60.

Logan Frank, RHP/C, Oshkosh North, 2023
5-foot-10, 155-pound left-handed hitting catcher/pitcher. Open stance, loads hand down and back, reverse tap stride, average balance. Path has length, works uphill, high back elbow, lifts contact. 71 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays short, 69 mph. 2.51-2.69 pop times, exchange has some length. 7.84 runner in the 60. On the mound arm plays long and loose, ¾ slot, regular effort. Fastball has slight run and sink, showed control, 71-74 mph, topped at 75 mph. Changeup fades to arm side, 63-68 mph.

Owen Gast, C, Nathan Hale, 2022
5-foot-5, 140-pound, right-handed hitting catcher, lean, high-waisted frame. At the plate, hits from a crouched, balanced stance, minimal load, leg kick trigger. Compact swing, level bat path, middle/opposite field approach, rhythm involved. Exit velocity topped 68 mph from a tee. Defensively, agile blocker, steady hands, arm plays long, high ¾ slot, throws topped 64 mph from the crouch with accuracy. Pop times ranged between 2.51-2.64. Ran a laser-timed 8.22 60.

Camdin Jansen, INF, Lutheran-Prairie, 2022
5-foot-5, 110-pound infielder, smaller lean frame. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, loads hands back, maintains balance. Path is short and stays on top of the baseball, contact hitter, spray contact to the middle of the field, repeats swing. Produces line drives, in rhythm, 68 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is loose and athletic, can work from multiple slots, high ¾ slot, 64 mph across the diamond. Hands showed softness and play out in front, showed range. 8.43 runner in the 60.

Quentin Keene, INF, Waunakee, 2022
5-foot-11, 155-pound infielder, longer lean frame, projects. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, solid balance. Path is short and efficient, creates above average bat speed, line drive gap to gap contact, fluid hitter. Projectabel bat, occasional pop, 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays long, high ¾ slot, 72 mph across the diamond. Corner infield type defender, showed ability to play through and above average body control. 8.09 runner in the 60.

Michael Lippe, OF/RHP, Whitefish Bay, 2022
6-foot, 160-pound two-way player, lean athletic shape, broad squared shoulders. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, slight leg lift stride. Hard contact in BP, above average bat speed, short finish at times. Defensively plays in stride with quick footwork, hands play, exchanges into crowhop. Over the top arm, carries on line, 77 mph from the outfield. 7.32 runner in the 60. On the mound fastball gets downhill and show tilt, 73-75 mph, topped at 76 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 66-68 mph.

Dylan Mass, INF, Franklin, 2022
5-foot-5, 110-pound left-handed hitting infielder. Hits from a slightly open stance, short lifted stride, good balance through contact. Confident in the box, path is short, hands work loose to create bat speed and find the barrel, advanced approach. Line drive contact, gap to gap spray, in rhythm. 70 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively plays with body control and athletic actions, hands are soft, natural infield defender. Arm action is short and loose, efficient over the top release, gets slight carry, 65 mph across the diamond. 7.64 runner in the 60.

Matthew Mueller, 1B/LHP, Brookfield Central, 2022
5-foot-9, 140-pound, left-handed hitting two-way player, big-bodied frame. At the plate, balanced setup, bar load, short stride, maintains balance. Long uphill bat path, thinks middle of the field, some rhythm involved. Exit velocity topped 73 mph from a tee. Defensively, steady footwork, arm plays long, high ¾ slot, throws topped 66 mph across the infield. 9.55 runner in the 60. On the mound, tall and fall style, works straight, closed toe landing, slight recoil at finish. Long, loose arm action, high ¾ slot, smooth rhythm throughout. Fastball played 65-66 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, 52-55 mph. Changeup played 62-65 mph.

Matthew Nash, OF, Wauwatosa West, 2022
5-foot-11, 145-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder, lean, athletic frame. Present foot speed, 7.44 runner in the 60. At the plate, balanced setup, back load, short stride. Short, level bat path, opposite field approach, exit velocity topped 77 mph from a tee. Defensively, arm plays short, over the top slot, throws topped 68 mph to home.

Dillon Rosado, INF/RHP, Pius XI, 2022
5-foot-4, 120-pound, right-handed hitting two-way player, well-proportioned frame. At the plate, balanced setup, drop load, short leg lift trigger, maintains balance. Short barrel path, flashed line drive ability to the middle of the field, rhythm involved. Solid contact, exit velocity topped 76 mph from a tee. Defensively plays through the ball, steady hands, arm plays short, high ¾ slot. Throws topped 68 mph across. 7.95 runner in the 60. On the mound, works in line, closed toe landing, athleticism in finish, repeatable delivery. Short, loose arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball played 67-69 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 58-62 mph. Changeup flashed sink, 65-67 mph.

Jonathan Showalter, INF/RHP, Arrowhead, 2022
6-foot-1, 185-pound, right-handed hitting two-way player, solid lower half. At the plate, open setup, drop bar load, short leg lift stride. Short, level bat path, can get uphill, opposite field approach. Present bat speed, exit velocity topped 81 mph from a tee. Defensively, arm plays long, high ¾ slot, throws topped 64 mph across the infield. 8.21 runner in the 60. On the mound, tall and fall style, square landing. Long arm action, loose front side, high ¾ slot, regular effort involved. Fastball worked straight, 65-69 mph. Changeup flashed sink, 60-63 mph.

Vaughn Smith, INF/RHP, St. Thomas Moore, 2022
5-foot-4, 127-pound, right-handed hitting two-way player, high-waisted frame. At the plate, open setup, rock back, bar load, short toe tap trigger. Level bat path, showed line drive ability to the middle of the field, present bat speed, exit velocity topped 77 mph from a tee. Defensively, quick footwork, steady hands, arm plays long, high ¾ slot. Throws topped 67 mph across the infield. 7.82 runner in the 60. On the mound, drop and drive style, quick tempo after balance point, works straight, open toe landing, athletic finish. Long, loose arm action, quickness out front, high ¾ slot. Fastball played 68-71 mph. Slider played 59-66 mph. Changeup maintains arm speed, 58-62 mph.

Jacob Stevens, C, Arrowhead, 2022
5-foot-9, 140-pound left-handed hitting catcher/pitcher. Slight open hitting stance, short stride. Path is level, produced hard line drives, 76 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively posted pop times at 2.43-2.55. Hands work, quiet setup, above average block. Arm action is short and over the top, accurate to target, 67 mph. On the mound works exclusively from the stretch, long arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball sinks slightly, 68-71 mph, touched 72 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 57-61 mph. Changeup sinks, 57-62 mph.

Remmi Sweet, INF, Union Grove, 2022
5-foot-9, 135-pound infielder. Right-handed hitter, slight open stance, loads hands back, quick leg kick trigger, average balance. Aggressive swing, makes hard contact, path is level throughout, 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm is short and over the top, strong arm, 74 mph across the diamond. Plays aggressively to the baseball, advanced runner for age, 7.13 in the 60.

Adam Switalski, SS/RHP, Westosha Central, 2023
5-foot-8, 135-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick trigger, balanced through contact. Short path to the baseball, stays on top, loose hands. Contact sprays to both sides of the field, line drive type, 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.99 runner in the 60. Defensively arm is loose, high ¾ slot, 68 mph across the diamond. Plays with body control, clean exchange, soft hands. On the mound arm action is similar, smooth delivery. Fastball has slight arm side run, 70-71 mph, touched 72 mph. Curveball plays 11/5, controls the zone, 60-63 mph. Changeup has above average feel, sinking action, 66-68 mph.

Tommy Townsend, OF/LHP, Sycamore (IL), 2023
5-foot-8, 145-pound, left-handed hitting two-way player, present above average strength for 2023 classification. At the plate, open, tall setup, minimal load, long leg kick trigger. Level bat path, can get uphill, flashed solid contact to the middle of the field, favors pull side. Exit velocity topped 71 mph from a tee. Defensively, plays through the ball, reliable hands, clean exchange, long arm, high ¾ slot. Throws topped 64 mph to home. 9.02 runner in the 60. On the mound, tall and fall style, closed toe landing, athleticism in finish. Short arm, high ¾ slot, effort involved. Fastball played 62-66 mph. Curveball 1/7 shape, 54-58 mph. Changeup flashed sink, 58-62 mph.

Mitchell Voit, 3B/RHP, Whitefish Bay, 2022
5-foot-6, 110-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, average balance through contact. Path is short, contact approach, stays on top of the baseball, line drive approach, works gap to gap, in rhythm. 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is loose, high ¾ slot, plays accurate across the diamond, flashed carry, 76 mph. Active feet play through the baseball, natural defender, soft hands and showed body control. 8.11 runner in the 60. On the mound arm plays short and loose, high ¾ slot. Fastball is mostly straight, 73-75 mph. Changeup occasionally fades to arm side, 68-70 mph.

TJ Williams, INF, Horlick, 2022
5-foot-1, 100-pound, left-handed hitting infielder, small, lanky frame. Defensively, profiles as a middle infielder, quick footwork, plays with bounce, soft hands, clean, quick exchange, gets rid of it. Short, loose arm action, high ¾ slot. Throws topped 69 mph across the infield with accuracy. Present foot speed, 7.10 runner in the 60. At the plate, open setup, back load, long leg kick trigger. Long, level bat path, thinks middle, exit velocity topped 63 mph from a tee.

Michael Zordani, 1B/RHP, Lake Forest (IL), 2022
6-foot, 170-pound, right-handed hitting two-way player. At the plate, balanced setup, drop load, leg lift trigger. Short barrel path, high finish, pull side approach, some rhythm involved. Exit velocity topped 74 mph from a tee. Defensively, arm plays long, over the top slot, some accuracy in throws, which topped 63 mph across the infield. 10.35 runner in the 60. On the mound, high knee at balance point, works straight, square landing. Long arm on back side, short and clean out front, over the top slot. Fastball played 63-66 mph, topped 67 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, 57-59 mph. Changeup flashed sink with arm speed, 60-64 mph.
