Weeks 1 & 2 Diamond Notes

Each week, WIAA coaches around the state submit to us their nominations for the PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week honor. On Wednesday, we awarded the first 'Players of the Week' awards of the year, representing Weeks 1 and 2, to RHP Elijah Niemiec (St. Thomas More, 2023; Wisconsin-Stevens Point commit), who has K'd 28 batters in 11 innings, including an 18 K performance in a one-hit shutout and earned 'Pitcher of the Week' honors. INF/RHP Zach Wolfram (Menomonee Falls, 2023) earned 'Player of the Week' honors after tallying five extra base hits to help Menomonee Falls to a 4-0 record.
Inside of this Diamond Notes piece, we acknowledge the performances that fell short of that POTW honor, but are still deserving of some recognition here.
Kyle Alivo RHP / 2B / St. Thomas More , WI / 2024Rankings StateRank: 14 / POS: 4
Iowa commit. On the mound Alivo had one start where he went six innings of no-hit baseball striking out six batters against Catholic Memorial. Offensively Alivo hit .417 with a .533 on base percentage with five RBI’s, four runs, drawing three walks and stealing four bags. |
Wyatt Blaskowski RHP / 1B / Amherst, WI / 2023Marian University commit. Blaskowski tossed a no-hitter in his season debut for Amherst who just needed 77 pitches to strike out 13 batters. On offense Blaskowski went 3-for-8 with a .920 OPS and two RBI’s. |
Kaden Connor 3B / RHP / Monona Grove, WI / 2025Uncommitted. Connor started two games for Monona Grove on the mound tossing twelve innings earning wins in both of his appearances. Allowing one hit, no runs, a walk and striking out 11 batters across both outings. One of his appearances was a complete game no-hitter where he needed 60 pitches to get through the outing. |
Dylan Cunningham C / 2B / Franklin, WI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 171 / POS: 21
Wisconsin-Stevens Point commit. Cunningham went 6-for-9 in three games this past week helping Franklin go 3-0. Of those hits three of them went for extra bases including a grand slam in the last game of the week and driving in eight total runs over the week. |
Noah Dreier SS / RHP / Brookfield Central, WI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 37 / POS: 8
St. Xavier commit. Dreier performed well offensively this past week going 6-for-10 with two doubles, two RBI’s and one stolen base this past week. On the mound against Sussex-Hamilton he tossed five innings allowing two hits, two runs and struck out seven batters. |
Garrett Kay OF / RHP / Waterford, WI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 13 / POS: 1
UIC commit. Through two games last week Kay went 3-for-7 on offense with a double and an RBI also scoring a run. On the mound Kay went four innings with nine strikeouts allowing one run and earned the win. |
Brady LaViolette C / 1B / Notre Dame Academy, WI / 2024Rankings StateRank: 55 / POS: 6
Uncommitted. LaViolette helped Notre Dame go 2-0 on the week where offensively he went 5-for-7 with a double and a home-run, driving in six runs, scoring twice himself. |
Landen Lozier 2B / 2B / Notre Dame Academy, WI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 69 / POS: 1
Michigan State commit. In two games this past week helping Notre Dame go 2-0 Lozier went 6-for-7 with three doubles and an RBI, drew two walks and stole two bases. On the mound he pitched five innings earning a win, allowing a walk and striking out five batters. |
Michael Molthen LHP / OF / Pulaski, WI / 2025Uncommitted. Molthen was a big part of Pulaski’s start of the season. Hitting out of the leadoff spot Molthen is putting up a .429 average. On the mound tossing five innings striking out nine batters. |
Owen Nowak OF / LHP / Union Grove, WI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 137 / POS: 23
McHenry County JC commit. Has been on fire to start out the season with multiple multi-hit games for himself early on with a standout performance against Waterford. Nowak went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI and drew a walk during the loss against Waterford. |
Sam Polyock RHP / OF / Badger , WI / 2024Uncommitted. Polyock tossed seven innings earning a win for Badger this past week. During his appearance he allowed four hits, one run, three walks striking out two batters. |
Nolan Sandee SS / 2B / Nicolet , WI / 2024Uncommitted. Sandee was a big part of the Nicolet Knights offense to start the season. At the plate he went 5-for-10 with a .625 on base percentage with two doubles and drove in two runs while scoring 5 times, also coming away with three stolen bases. On the mound Sandee went seven innings earning a win, allowing one run on two hits, striking out eight batters. |
Crete Slattery 1B / 3B / Lake Geneva Badger, WI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 172 / POS: 15
Ripon commit. Went 3-for-6 this past week with a home-run while driving in a run and scoring twice himself, he also drew three walks. |
Gavin Stewart LHP / 1B / Lake Geneva Badger, WI / 2025Uncommitted. Stewart was a two-way contributor for Badger this past week. On the mound Stewart tossed seven innings allowing two hits striking out 14 batters. Offensively he went 5-for-9 with two doubles driving in four runs drawing a walk. |
Jack Stuck 2B / RHP / Nicolet, WI / 2025Uncommitted. In two appearances Stuck tossed 10 total innings going 2-0 on the week. In those appearances he struck out a total of 16 batters, allowing only four hits and two earned runs which is good for a 1.40 ERA to start the season. |
Carter Tennies SS / RHP / Slinger, WI / 2023Uncommitted. Tennies had an impressive performance in the only game of the week for Slinger. Against Wauwatosa East Tennies got the start on the mound where he tossed four innings striking out eight batters. At the plate he went 2-for-4 with both of his hits going for extra bases, one double and a home-run, driving in two runs as well. |
Parker Wyatt OF / 3B / Marquette, WI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 33 / POS: 6
Dayton commit. Wyatt helped Marquette go 3-1 on the week with showing a knack for getting on base. Over the course of three games Wyatt went 5-for-10 with six RBI’s, scoring five runs and stealing five bases, Wyatt also drew two walks and was hit by pitch 3 other times. |
MORE NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
+ Mason Elston (La Crosse Central, 2023) Uncommitted. Over three games this past week Mason went 7-for-13 helping La Crosse Central to a 3-0 record. Of his seven hits, three of them for extra bases with a double, triple and home-run, he also drove in five runs and scored five himself. On the mound he tossed eight innings giving up four hits and two runs while striking out 11 batters.
+ SS Maddux Poock (Green Lake/Princeton, 2024) Uncommitted. Poock stood out this last week going 5-for-7 (.714 avg) with two doubles driving in eight runs, scoring four himself, also drew a walk and had a sacrifice fly on the week. On the mound Poock pitched one inning of a combined no-hitter striking out two batters.
+ INF Landon Raygo (De Pere, 2024) Uncommitted. Raygo had an impressive performance for De Pere over the weekend going 4-for-4 with three extra base hits on the day with two doubles and one home-run on the day. He also drove in two RBI’s on the day scoring three runs himself.
+ INF Brett Simonsen (Wisconsin Rapids-Lincoln, 2025) Uncommitted. Simonsen had a big part in the teams 4-0 week getting it done on both sides of the ball. Offensively going 5-for-10 with three triples, and nine RBI’s while also drawing five walks and stealing five bases. On the mound he pitched five innings allowing one hit and three walks, striking out 12 batters.
