Scrimmage vs Clayton Valley - Cal commit; One inning outing on the mound, saw up to 87 in this outing which is highest we've seen to this point, arm was working quick free and easy with considerable fastball life, has eliminated the curveball and added a slider, small break with the slider as it looks to be something that will need some more development as the break was minimal and mostly lateral with cutter type break, change-up was quite good and it's the better of the two secondary pitches and will be an above average offering at the collegiate level. This was a good jump in velocity from what we saw at the Area Code Games tryout.

vs Marin Catholic - Cal commit; lean 6-foot-1, 170-pound, continues to intrigue me and though I think pitching is his future at the college level, he flashes tools as a position player to keep that door open. On the mound he was 82-85 mph, with a 71-72 mph curveball and 71 mph change-up that he likes to throw. He can use all three pitches and as he settles into knowing and trusting his stuff more, he will be plenty good. Tempo was pretty slow today and he picked to bases frequently, which of course could have been called from the dugout. As a hitter he employs a pull-side approach, with the barrel generally getting ahead of his hands. The contact is frequently hard but the approach could expose him to better pitching, particularly on the outer third where good pitchers live. He’s a lean wiry player and strength will continue to develop. Defensively he’s confident in his arm, which shows up as near average now and will play above average in time. He can make the routine play, though his pre-pitch set-up, first step lateral quickness, and innate SS shortstop instincts do need to be further developed.

PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Cal Commit. Lean, long, large frame with width in shoulders; projectable frame that has space to fill in. Controlled and athletic runner keeping chest over feet (7.33 60-yd). Slightly opened stance with narrow knees turned in keeping even hands and high back elbow; controlled rock into back hip with hands going down then back. Barrel is short and quick with acceleration into the zone; very projectable swing attacking on level path with gap power regularly driving balls deep to pullside (90 exit velo). Very smooth and controlled in the infield with strong first step giving him large range of coverage; ability to speed up/slow down the body showing soft hands. Compact and quick arm that shows great accuracy with extra carry and life staying on a line going across the diamond (85 MPH). Cal commit is one of the top 2021 shortstops in NorCal with plenty of projection in his defensive skills and ability to hit at the next level.

Scrimmage vs Casa Grande HS - Cal commit, body coming along well, lean and long and still a long way from his peak high school physicality. Did not pitch, played only shortstop, arm strength on display as a plus attribute, finished off back half of a double play using that arm to nab a fast left-handed batter. Glove skills appear to be solid/average, ability to recover after a bobble and decision making for when to try to finish the play can improve. Definitely trusts his arm. Offensively in limited opportunities he showed a quiet and middle of the field approach with a sac-fly F8 RBI. Need to see more vs better pitching. Will likely play SS in the upcoming season which would indicate he would likely be used as a closer on the mound.

Uncommitted as of this report; aw for first time in regular season game action, arm looked loose and delivery was clean, on-line with good finish on his pitches. Lifts easy over the rubber and delivery is athletic and repeatable. Creates good leverage with the timing of his delivery and his arm action. Very controlled stride and foot strike. Fastball was 81-83 and occasionally had late life/hop. Definitely projectable velocity and life. Change-up is best secondary pitch at this time, throws it with good finish (see the video). Have seen his curveball better, was a bit on the side of it today, was in the zone but had shallow break and lack of bite. A better one is in there. Also a shortstop, arm tracks easy across diamond, showed bat speed with a pretty pull heavy approach at this point.

Preseason Scrimmage - Long and lean 6-foot-0, 160-pound athletic body type, long legs with high waist, projectable frame that has some present day strength but room to fill out as he physically develops, two-way player is one of the top 2021 prospects in Northern California, stood out on the mound in a one inning stint, loose and whip-quick arm, athletic delivery with easy lift over the rubber and fluid timing as he works down the slope, featured three-pitch-mix (fastball, curveball, changeup) and each had late life through the zone, particularly good finish of the curveball and changeup, both of which have a chance to be out-pitches at the collegiate level, offensively Crawford swings the bat aggressively and has a plan of attack, soft hands in the infield, can work on foot speed/quickness and strength. The video will illustrate the arm action and delivery.
