2020 Catcher Clay Liolios the uncommitted 6-foot-3, 210-pound catcher has big, athletic, durable, flexible frame. Still room for physical projection. Two-sport recruit that has now focused on baseball only.  Currently the swing is geared for contact, with an all fields approach. Starts from a slightly open, wide base, with standard stride trigger. Approach to ball is aggressive with a planed out swing path. Liolios currently hits for high average and power will come to gaps in the form of doubles. Has plenty of strength, but swing produces topspin.  Speed is not part of his game, but is adequate, and not a liability. Behind the plate, Liolios has soft hands, moves well laterally, receives well, and has a desire to block. Presents well, and can manipulate strike zone to get more strikes. Arm is average, but accurate with the ability to consistently have pop times just north of 2.0. Liolios is a big, physical catcher who calls a good game and has well rounded receiving skills. Exhibits strong makeup; works with pitchers on the side in pre-game, and constantly does blocking drills with coaches.

SoCal Preseason All-State - 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, Big build with lots of present strength with little physical projection remaining. Batting from the right side, Liolios most impressive tool is his raw power. Drove multiple balls over the fence in his BP round and also registered a 93 mph exit velocity off the tee. Has good present bat speed and has the ability to turn on pitches. Defensively, Liolios presents a large frame and he makes up for quickness deficiencies with his technique. Pop times ranged from 2.03-2.12. Showed of his strong arm with accurate throws as well. Liolios has made lots of improvements to his game and it is showing since we saw him in summer. Appears primed for a big spring.

SoCal Preseason All-State Quick Hits - Liolios has made a commitment to the weight room and the results are beginning to show themselves on the field. Always a strong bodied catcher, he's now a slimmer, quicker catcher too without sacrificing the power in his bat. Registered a 93 mph exit velocity and drove two balls over the fence during batting practice. The conditioning is paying off behind the plate too where he looks more comfortable and flexible. Arm is accurate to the bag while popping in the 2.03 - 2.12 range.

SoCal Underclass Games - Six-foot-3, 215-pound, extra-large frame with broad shoulders, barrel chest and proportional strength throughout the body. Liolios is a big, strong player whose power is present and very projectable. He gets the barrel into the zone early through excellent coordination of top and bottom half. Finish is balanced albeit a bit abbreviated with weight centered. Shows excellent barrel control keeping the bat on a level path and consistently squaring balls up. Shows present bat speed. Defensively he shows a loose arm with pop times in the 2.09-2.19 range. Has the arm strength to throw from knees. Throws have some carry to them and most throws are on the bag.
