California signee, 6-foot-2 195-pound physically put-together and athletic catcher, making move to full-time catcher as senior and he is rapidly looking the part, low-80s arm strength, good feet and quick release, throws more often than not were online w/little to no fade (despite that one video), blocks with good mechanics and effort, wide stance at plate with high hand set, demonstrated pullside power and a aggressive to that side of plate, made adjustment late in game to cover outter half and cut down his swing, indicates that he can look to do damage in positive counts and switch to contact battle mode with 2-strikes. Rapidly turning into one of N CAs top catching prospects and would think MLB scouts will start taking a peak.
11/2/19: Physical sophomore catcher with multiple above average/fringe plus tools. Saw a number of times in high school and same tools visible then continue to grow. Arm strength and accuracy both rate as above average (83 mph), release was consistent, low time between innings was 1.94, good carry on throws through the bag with very minimal movement. Block/recover skills are plus and displayed as such with execution of block/recover and throwing out an attempted advance by baserunner. Strong hands as a receiver though does receive a bit deep and it seemed that umpires can lose sight of the ball. Sits with wide base and wide knees, displaying outstanding leg strength as well as flexibility in his hips. Offensively drove the ball with strong hands and a heavy barrel, power will play as average if a middle of the field approach is consistent as he has the ability to leave the yard to the opposite field. Profiles as a potential day one selection as a junior based on above average defensive catcher profile to go with power projection on the offensive side.
