1/5/2018 - SoCal Preseason All State - Five-foot-11, 185-pounds. Has a larger frame, that is strong and athletic young body. Wentz started by running a 7.24 60-yard dash. Has quick feet with a medium stride. From the plate operates from a slightly open setup, with a smooth load as his leg glides. Shows a good use of the lower half, and shows the ability to reach every pitch. Shows quick hands, and in BP was able to drive the ball to all fields. He did register one of the top-exit velos of the day topping out at 93 mph. From the outfield throws from a longer ¾ arm angle motion. Showed a strong an accurate arm, registering an 82 mph from the outfield. Shows softer hands, fluid footwork, a clean exchange, and plays thru the ball. Wentz does a nice job engaging his lower half, helps him make those strong and accurate throws.
1/5/19 - SoCal Preseason All-State Quick Hits - Wentz is one of those players that every winning college program has on their roster. He hits (93 exit velo) line drives to all fields. He runs (7.24 60) with excellent instincts on the bases and can really pitch although he didn't do that at this event. What he did do is show off some newfound power in the bat with line drives to the gaps that could develop into more power as he continues to grow and fill out. Shows a strong, accurate arm from the outfield where he registered an 82 mph position velocity.
2/17/18 - Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame with proportional strength which is defined throughout his frame, lean muscle structure projects to add strength with continued physical maturity. Offensively, Wentz shows a quiet and balanced setup with hands just below his shoulder and close to his chest, pulls hands back and uses a toe tap triggers to engage swing, rotates hips back and drives back hip through the zone with his upper body following, gets barrel into the zone on plane and uses fast hands to attack balls in the zone. Clocked at 4.89 home-to-first on a ground out. Defensively, Wentz shows position flexibility playing in the outfield, 3B, and pitching. In the outfield he takes good routes to the ball with good body control. Has good footwork and very good positional understanding. On the mound he possesses a true three-pitch mix with command of all three pitches.
