2019 San Pasqual (Kansas State) DH, 6-foot-3 200 pounds, R/R. Batted leadoff as the designated hitter. Defensive absence cost San Pasqual immensely. Offensively showed that he can register hits, going 3-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI. All three of his hits were softly hit and towards the middle of the field.
2019 San Pasqual HS shortstop and Kansas State commit Elijah Jackson is listed at 6’ 3” 190 lbs and presents a lanky athletic build. Vocal leader on the field was seen encouraging teammates and looking to set the tone with his play on the field. Defensively showed a solid overall game and good baseball IQ on the field. Features smooth hands and a quick release, displaying good range in part due to his physical length, positive first step and feel for a clean back hand. Took a poor infield-outfield where he displayed some sloppiness in the beginning but corrected that quickly. Arm strength is average at best and makes up for it in his quick release and good footwork. Offensively sets up well in the box and looks comfortable with a slightly open stance and minor leg kick load. Keeps his hands neutral and with little movement allowing for a quick approach to the ball and good balance through the zone. A big key to his swing is keeping his hips and shoulders from flying open which should allow for an all-fields approach. Lanky shortstop with good hands and sound footwork that should carve out playing time at the next level if he continues to improve the hitting tool.
8/1/18 - At 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, Jackson has lean, wiry strength throughout his body with a particularly strong lower half. Jackson shows fast hands with clean, quick transfers that allow him to show off his above average arm strength resulting in accurate throws that show some life. Plays with good rhythm and excellent body control. First step is very good as is his anticipation of where the ball will be. Understands angles and hops very well. His backhand is plus. Plays through balls. At the plate Jackson shows decent bat speed and good balance throughout his swing. His lower half explosive through the ball. His swing is tight and powerful with a present gap-to-gap approach. Jackson ran a 7.08 60 yard dash while registering an infield velocity of 84 mph, and an exit velocity of 86 mph off a tee.
