10/11/20

DefenseGood first step, low to the ground, solid outfield actions overall.
ArmLH.   OF - 81 mph. Arm works, needs more velo to play in right, 5/5 on throws from the outfield.
Hit: LHH. Sweet left-handed swing, ball sounds good off the bat, projectable power. Blast Motion scores of 57/56/59. Solid across the board, showing that his swing is natural and has good projectability.
Power: 93 mph exit velocity.
Run7.47 runner in the 60.

DeliveryAthletic pitcher, feel for 3 pitches, projectable.
Arm Action: LH. Arm works well, lacks whip, let it rip for more.
FBT78, 76-78 mph. Showed feel for 4 and 2 seam, worked throughout the zone, tough to RHH and LHH.
CB: 59-62 mph. Slow big breaking curve that creates timing issues for hitters.
CH: 70-71 mph. Same release point as fastball, parachute like fade, tough on RHH.

6/01/19

IE Future Games Trials - Uncommitted. Started off the day clocking a 7.44 sixty.  Cabada showed he can do it all and took part in all facets of the showcase.  Body is developing nicely in our third viewing, is an inch taller and starting to lengthen out. Has significant room to add muscle and twitchiness. Displays a natural left handed swing that is geared for contact. Power is developing.  Went to outfield and showed average, accurate arm, and took good routes. Finished the day on the mound where he stood out. Not blowing the radar gun up, however he is a high percentage strike thrower demonstrating his ability to locate all of three his offerings. Curveball is almost a 12-6 with some loopiness but Cabada is able to it to a spot showing strike throwing ability with it. The changeup could be a plus pitch down the road for Cabada. The pitch shows great arm side run with depth. High follow list type player.

1/05/19

SoCal Preseason All State (outfield) - Five-foot-9, 155-pounds. Has a medium, lean, wiry strong frame, young athletic body, will add size with maturity. He started the day off registering a 7.59 60-yard dash. At the plate operates from open set-up, with a toe-tap trigger. Has good use of his lower half, nice compact swing as hands start in the ready position. He does a nice job staying inside the ball an being able to turn on the inside pitch. From the outfield registered an outfield velo 81 mph. Shows tools in the outfield, with fluid footwork, and with an accurate arm that is getting stronger and projects for continued added strength. He throws from an over-the-top motion, has life and carry on his throws. Has good hands, footwork is fluid that really helps him with his throws, as he makes sure to get his body behind the ball.

1/05/19

SoCal Preseason All-State (pitching) - 5-foot-9, 155 pounds, short and slim, wiry actions, two-way player. Drop and drive mechanics with good balance help produce power and direction. Delivers from a high three-quarter arm slot and does a great job producing lower half power from above average hip drive and quick arm speed. Arm action is long in the back with a slight stab, which led to pitch tipping. Breaking ball broke more like a slurve and produced late bite, flashing strikeout potential. Change-up lacked speed differential and movement. Projectable lefty who should see a velocity jump from growth, maturity and a shorter arm path.

1/05/19

SoCal Preseason All-State Quick Hits - Cabada once again showed well for our team of scouts both in the outfield and on the mound. Only a freshman, Cabada shows projectable tools in the outfield where his feet really work and his arm is accurate with developing strength. At the plate he shows some quickness to his swing while staying inside the ball and getting the barrel through the zone on plane. It's on the mound where he really projects with his loose, easy arm action and present command of three pitches. While not overpowering, he hits spots with ease. Velocity will come as he continues to grow and fill out.

9/23/18

Rising Stars Showcase - Five-foot-9, 155-pounds, large, long frame with wiry strength throughout. Cabada showed very well at the plate where he shows plus feel for hitting and the barrel. Consistently barreled balls during his round and showed some sneaky pop to the gaps. Has a good understanding of his hitting zone and doesn't stray from it. Bat projects with continued physical maturation. In the outfield he shows a big, strong, accurate arm and an understanding of angles and hops. Throws have life and were on the bag. Has range to both sides. Footwork is is quick without a lot of wasted movements. Exchanges are clean and quick and he plays through balls with athletic movements. Cabada shows a lot of projection on the mound where he's aggressive in attacking the zone with three pitches. Shows a long, loose, quick arm action through to his ¾ slot. Arm shows some effort. Stays tall in the back before driving down the mound with a short half leg kick. Mechanics are clean and repeatable. There's rhythm to his delivery; lands inline before falling off to the third base side. Fastball pops out of his hand and shows some run to the arm side as it enters the hitting zone. Commands it down in the zone. Curveball can be loopy - he casts it, but when thrown with conviction is shows late with sharp, downer action thrown at or below the knees. Cabada shows feel for the changeup which has late tailing life in the hitting zone.
