2019 Eastlake (SDSU) 3B, 6-foot-1 190 pounds, R/R: Amazed the crowd with a first pitch leadoff towering home run to left-center. Took a fantastic pregame infield and flashed his plus-glove throughout the game with ease. Showing first round talent just a few weeks before the draft. 4.4 to first base on a ground out to shortstop. #PBRSanDiego

2019 Eastlake third basemen Keoni Cavaco continued to show above-average defense with great lateral movement and smooth fielding mechanics with crisp throws to the chest. Showed both the ability to come and get slow choppers and the willingness to stay back and make a strong through across the diamond during infield and outfield. Facing Otay Ranch RHP Octavio Corona, one of the hardest throwing pitchers in the county and fellow prospect, struck out in an 8 pitch battle. The matchup had a feel of a professional at-bat and despite chasing a pitch up in the zone for a strikeout put some good swings on the ball, had a hitting plan and layed off three tough pitches. Continues to show bat speed and a smooth swing path but also shows the concerning hip drip that tends to open up early. In his second at bat of the game but off a reliever was on time and barrelled a ball through the 5.5 hole for a single. Cavaco continues to show the tools of a professional player and the swing path with current and future power potential that shows on-field comparison’s both offensively and defensively to Bo Bichette.

3/3/19 - Cavaco stayed hot at the plate with a first-inning double that was smoked down the left-field line. Following his first at-bat, he was clearly pitched around and was walked twice and hit by a pitch.

2/23/19 - Showed just why he very well could be the best right-handed hitting prospect in the county. Took infield and outfield like a pro, making crisp and clean throws to first and busted to the ball with a quick first step. Displayed a plus arm to first base throughout the game and flashed his power arm pitching potential in the bullpen. Ripped a double to the left-center gap in his first at bat, singled in his second and walked in his third. Displayed plus bat speed that projects well at the next level with increased pitching velocity. Athletically stable at the plate and shows limited pre-contact foot movement. Front hip is quick to open which concerns some scouts. Finishes swing with a slight uppercut and launch angle but is able to keep it short and loose. Positive showing all-around for an exciting player with a lot of potential and projectability.

1/19/19-1/21/19- 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, strong and athletic build, broad shoulders, muscular and sturdy lower half. Releases from an over-the-top arm angle, lightning quick arm speed, long and loose arm action, athletic balance and slightly uphill shoulders. Drop and drive mechanics allow for plus hip drive, forcing explosion towards home plate. Keeps hands tight and compact with body helping with consistency pitch-to-pitch. Fastball sat in the 89-92 range topping at a career best 93 mph, flashed run and sink down in the zone, flattened out in the top of the zone. Change-up sat in the 80-82 mph range with arm-side run and good command. Power arm with lots of projection due to limited time on the mound, chance to become a power college arm and see velocity gains and pitching development with increased focus on pitching. Shows a solid hitting approach, confident presence at the plate, shows patience pitch-to-pitch, looking to attack fastballs. Strong lower half, looks to pull, shows pop ability. Average runner who looked to take the extra base. Showed average defense at third base and an above average arm across the diamond. Sound two-way player that will make an immediate impact at the college level. Will be an arm to watch this spring with the recent velocity gains

1/19/19 - Keoni Cavaco was arguably the most intriguing arm of the day. He's a physical player at 6-foot-1, 200-pounds that looks like a football player. This was the first time I saw him on the mound and it didn't disappoint. Working 89-92 and touching 93 several times, the ball jumps out of his hand from a 3/4 slot after a shoulder turn and high leg kick add deception making it hard for hitters to pick it up out of his hand. If the fastball didn't have hitters thinking, the 82-83 changeup that showed late fading and sinking action definitely made things uncomfortable. 10/22/18 - 3B Keoni Cavaco (Eastlake HS, CA), a San Diego State recruit, possesses some defined strength throughout his 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame, and does not get cheated at the plate. The right-handed hitter sets up square in a balanced stance with his hand next to the ear, and rocks into a power-position with the bat slightly wrapping, late, as he strides with a leg kick. He shows strength through the zone on an uphill path, and hammered a big double for the San Diego Show in their playoff game.

1/13/18 - San Diego State commit. Physical 6-foot-1, 175 pound frame, athletic build, raw strength, with room for continued development. Advanced defensive abilities with a premier arm strength. Defensively Cavaco shows very good range and the ability to funnel the ball out front, light on his feet for a player his size, exchange is clean and seamless. Offensively there’s plenty of juice in the bat presently from upright athletic setup, stays balanced throughout swing while keeping head still, strength to pull side, quick hands, advanced barrel and zone awareness, covers the entire plate. Also pitched working 86-88 with fastball, did not throw a breaking ball.
