Preseason All-State. This is our third look at Watkins in this setting. Visibly he has tightened up his overall frame and has become more muscular. He continues to demonstrate his ability to hit the ball with authority. Took one of the better BP rounds on the day consistently squaring up balls and driving them into gaps. Has gained a tic of agility since our last viewing which has allowed him to possess more range on defense. The arm tool is average, but accurate and online to throws to first base.

Uncommitted. 5-10, 180-pounds. Strong, physical, compact frame that has some room for added mass/strength. Watkins is a strong, powerful third baseman that has simply hit in every viewing we’ve had. With a slight uphill barrel path, Watkins is able to consistently square balls up and drive them into the gaps. The load/swing can get long but his hand/bat speed allows him to catch up with the barrel. Registered an 86 mph exit velocity off a tee. Defensively he shows excellent footwork with smooth actions and an accurate arm that registered a 76 mph position velocity from third base. Plays hard, loose and under control.

5-foot-10, 185-pounds, medium/large frame that is strong throughout with some areas for continued development - shoulders, midsection. Takes that physicality to the plate where he attacked balls and meeting them out front. Has some lift in his swing and looks to elevate the ball. Drove balls into gaps showing flashes of his feel for finding the barrel. Defensively he showed excellent footwork in positioning to funnel balls out front. Turns the double play easily and cleanly. Arm is strong with accuracy at 78 mph.
