vs Ukiah - nothing new to body, he's a strong kid with a football build, looks like he will once again be catching a lot of this season though that is likely not his spot beyond high school (projects best as corner OF), defensively does work hard and has talent/athleticism to block/recover well but block/control is a work in progress, the small nuanced parts of catching are aspects don't show up consistently, offensively hits at top of line up and see a ton of pitches, seemingly each at-bat goes 4+ pitches, swing trigger hasn't shown up regularly and in some ways he almost seems too selective and it hurts his readiness to make more routinely hard contact.

vs Marin Catholic - Uncommitted; Stout 5-foot-10, 185-pounds; has an awful lot to offer on the field, which is pretty exciting considering he's a multi-sport athlete who hasn't yet fully committed to baseball (he's one heck of a football player). Moran started behind the plate (where he also played as a freshman on varsity) and did a nice job receiving. The pop times will need to tick lower (2.22 warm-up, 74 mph) and the release has to get more efficient. Accurate in pregame warm-ups from outfield (CF) and the release plays well out there, where he also gets good jumps/reads, profiles best a corner OF. Offensively he frequently grinds deep/long at-bats and can spoil good pitches. He can hit with 2-strikes and still drive the ball the opposite way with a less than full swing, speaking to his raw strength. Squaring up mistake pitches more frequently in positive counts is something to improve on. He did execute team-type at-bats, including pulling a ground ball to 2nd base with a runner at 3rd and nobody out.

PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Physical, athletic and solidly put together on medium frame with even proportions and wide, barreled shoulders. Excellent first step with explosive qualities on twitchy, strong frame (7.37 60-yd). Slightly opened, balanced stance with high back elbow and hands at back shoulder; quick foot tuck as hands bounce bat off shoulder in time with leg before slightly pulling back. Bat works on an upward arc keeping hands tight and inside the baseball; really can sink into his legs and drive the ball. Very controlled, yet explosive swing showing very quick bat speed that drives balls deep into gaps; showed the ability to hit the ball all around the field during BP keeping focused on pullside and middle of the field (85 exit velo). In the outfield shows his athletic qualities with ease in the way he attacks the ball; compact arm that shows life with extra carry coming out of his hand quickly (82 MPH). Great athlete (multi-sport standout) that does things easy on the baseball field and has a very high ceiling. A Top 2021 to watch.

at Boras Classic North - Uncommitted. 3rd time seeing Moran this spring, continues to hit in lead-off spot for a competitive team that went to semi-finals of Boras Classic. Consistently long at-bats, knows what he wants to hit and looks to know what he can hit. Runs better than you'd think looking at him. Continues to work on his craft as a catcher/receiver but is making strides. Still seeing the bit of a curl in his throwing motion that takes away some arm strength and quickness.

Thick and strong 5-foot-9 175-pound multiple position player, built from the ground up (varsity starter as frosh on a very good HS team). Catching early in the season until starter (his brother) is back from some nagging ankle issues. Shows hands to be a good receiver though tends to lose sight of the ball on the lower pitches, particularly low-away. Balance in the squat can improve as a receiver but he gets out of the squat easily and with power. 75 mph arm, has bit of a curl toward his head on the backside. Offensively he hit in the lead-off spot, shows patience, keeps hands back and has physicality. Fair runner for his age and size, 4.54 down the line. Power will be there as he learns the game at the varsity level.

Preseason scrimmage; Thick and strong body type, built like a football player, yet has agility and athleticism not usually associated by his body type, well-rounded player with ability to play any position on the field, primarily a catcher, displayed strong and soft receiving hands, quiet behind the plate, presents a good target, throws well, left-handed hitter w/competitive approach, bat speed to compete vs quality stuff, younger brother of senior starting catcher, varsity football starter (LB) as freshman.
