6-foot-3, 180 pounds. Matt Givin started for Rock Canyon, threw the first three innings, 4 days rest after throwing 110 pitches last Wednesday (vs Heritage), not as sharp as last week. 62 pitches, 41 strikes, 2 walks four strikeouts, touched 91 and worked at 87 and 88. Then Matt re-entered the game pitching in the 7th inning, with no outs and a runner on first, in the 7th he struck out the first two batters that he faced and also induced an infield ground ball to end the game, 13 additional pitches in the 7th inning. Touched 91 in the 7th along with working at 88-89
4-12-17
6-foot-3, 180 pounds. Givin was pretty special today. The Eagles has no answer. Ton of scouts there to see him pitch. Givin sat 88-89 the whole game. Touched 90 twice. Fits the mold of the athletic SS/RHP. Comes from a high 3/4 arm slot. Arm is loose and works well with rest of the body. Carried no-hitter into the 6th inning against one of the best 5A teams in the state. Has plus off speed. Has a wipeout slider that was consistently 78-80 mph that just falls off late. Hitters could not lay off it, and he has very good command with it. Could throw it anytime in the count to get a strike, and also could command to get the strikeout. Threw complete game 3-hit shut out with 10 ks. To see video look here:

Jacob Hilton, RHP, Heritage, 2017 (New Mexico State Commit)
6-foot-4, 225pounds. Hilton was again very impressive on the mound and pitched well enough to win agains the No. 1 ranked team in the state, but ran into a buzzsaw in Givin. Hilton's fastball was consistently 91, touching 92 to both sides of the plate. Also pitched a complete game only giving up 5 hits striking out 5. Only mistake made was a ball up outside that was hit for 2-run wind-aided homerun to right center which was the only runs of the game. Was on the ropes a little in 3rd and 4th innings, but battled out of it, settled down and had 1-2-3 5th and 6th innings. Fastball was 88-90 in last two innings.
Casey Opitz, C, Heritage, 2017 (Arkansas)
5-foot-11, 175 pounds. Switch hitter. Simply had one of the most dominating performances we have seen in awhile behind the plate. Real-game pop-times were 1.9. We have never seen a catcher back-pick 3 runners off base in one game, and it was at first, second, and 3rd. Not only can you not steal on Opitz, you are afraid to even get a lead. So aggressive with throwing down. Also got only one of the 3 hits off Givin in the game.
8-16-16
6-foot-2, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Givin worked 85 to 88 mph with his fastball. Changeup was 77-78 mph, and curveball is over the top and lives at 72. Athletic build, a little lean. High 3/4 arm slot. Threw 4 shutout innings striking out 3 against Cherry Creek.
4-6-2016
6-foot-2, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Athletic build, a little lean. High elbow position and high hands at the plate. Stands tall in the box. Keeps his hand back well on off-speed pitches. Projects as a corner at next level but because of an injury to starting shortstop 2016 Daryl Myers is playing shortstop. Shows his athleticism with this move. On the day was pitched around. If he puts on some weight it will increase his power potential but he's a high followin in our state.
6-foot-2, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Givin worked 84 to 85 with his fastball with decent overhand curveball at 69-71. Athletic build, a little lean. High 3/4 arm slot. Big presence on the mound. Givin projects to be an upper 80's to lower 90's.
No. 29 2017. 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. Bats and throws right. Big athletic presence at the plate.
Athletic build, a little lean. High elbow position and high hands at the plate. Stands tall
in the box. Keeps his hand back well on off-speed pitches. 2-4 on the day. 2 RBI double
