5.12.15 - 6-foot-3, 175-pound first baseman is stronger than he looks, shows athleticism in the batter’s box. Hit third in the lineup. Crouched, slightly open stance, balanced and confident when taking pitches. Hands are comfortable just below the head and in rhythm with the lower half. Doesn’t waste movement in the swing. Maintains a direct path to the baseball and extension through the swing. Keeps front side closed, hips are loose, allowing him to adjust and create torque when swinging at pitches in different parts of the zone. Demonstrated bat control and an advanced approach. Didn’t budge on off-speed pitches early in the count, later showing the ability to hit the off-speed pitch, driving a game-tying RBI single in the sixth the opposite way for a long single. Footwork around the bag is solid, could profile as a corner outfielder at some point. The sophomore is his team’s number two starting pitcher. Didn’t pitch in the game. Showed quick arm action during pre-game with some carry on his throws. Physical development will play a factor in his progression. Certainly one to follow from the 2017 class. Showed ability to hit above-average high school pitching.
