8.12.16 - Verbally committed to Illinois-Springfield.
7.30.16 - Worked two clean innings to close the game. Left-handed pitcher, solid frame. Short, quick arm from a high ¾ arm slot. Showed a three pitch feel, featuring a fastball, slider, and changeup.
Future Games 2015 - Strong lower half 5-foot-10, 187-pound left-handed pitcher has a lot to like in his arsenal. Uses a three-pitch mix and has some arm strength to go with it. Romero went 83-85 mph with his fastball and touched 86 a couple of times in his outing at the Future Games. Clean, quick, athletic arm action with the ability to spin the baseball. Slider was inconsistent in his outing but flashed a few that had sharp, biting action and showed potential to be a strikeout pitch at 70-72 mph. Also, showcased a change-up at 75-78 mph. One of the more impressive things seen all weekend at the Future Games was the pickoff move to first base shown by Romero. Two separate times, Romero allowed a base-runner to reach first and proceeded to pick off each runner, using a deceptive leg-lift pick that the runners seemed too have no chance on.
7/15/15 - 5-foot-10, 178-pound, solidly built left-handed hitting outfielder. Showed good instincts in centerfield getting good jumps on balls. Line drive hitter, who looks to pull. Athletic setup at the plate with an open stance. Went 2-2 with a triple and an RBI. On Saturday afternoon he went 1-2 with an RBI single to right field. Started the continuation game on Sunday at Benedictine University. Threw two innings. Left-handed pitcher that throws from high ¾ arm slot. Athletic, smooth delivery; Not a lot of effort in delivery; Arm is quick and loose; Good mound presence; Athletic finish. Fastball sat 81-84 mph and touched 85 once. Slider with 1/7 action was sharp and sat 68-70 mph. Has a bright future on the mound and should be a high follow in the 2017 class.
