Below is a compilation of scouting notes throughout the PBR/DSP 16U Classic from July 27-July 31.

BASEBALL ACADEMICS MIDWEST

Jake VonDielingen, RHP, 2018
6-foot, 150-pound, lean, wiry, right-handed pitcher. Delivery works with rhythm, stays on-line, closed landing and finishes towards first base at times. Mixed three pitches for strikes throughout. Had a shutout entering the sixth inning.

DBA’s

Corey Graham, OF, Crete-Monee, 2018
6-foot, 155 pound, athletic outfielder. At the plate, right-handed hitter, tall, balanced setup with a short stride. Strong day offensively from the leadoff spot going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Instincts and aggressiveness on the base paths, stealing two bases and always looking to take an extra base on throws in from the outfield. Clocked at a 4.20 home to first.

Anthony Herron, 1B, Simeon, 2018
6-foot-2, 235 pound first baseman, strong, athletic frame. Offensively, right-handed hitter, tall, setup. Flashed bat speed throughout the day, exit velocity has been clocked at 92 mph in past events. Went 1-for-1 on the day with a walk and sacrifice fly.

Will McManaman, LHP, St. Ignatius, 2018
6-foot-3, 180 pound, left-handed pitcher with a projectable frame. On the mound, long, loose arm action, high ¾ arm slot, easy effort in delivery. Throws a heavy fastball, clocked at 80-81 in past events. Also features a curveball and changeup. Had a dominant performance, pitching a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out 12.

FOX VALLEY ROYALS - Nationals

Griffin Kelly, CF, Batavia, 2018
Right-handed hitting outfielder. Went 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. Lined a single up the middle in his second at-bat; ball jumped off of his bat. Natural instincts on the base paths. Stole two bases. Defensively, made a diving catch in shallow center field.

ILLINOIS BULLDOGS

Talon File, SS, Williamsville, 2017
Lincoln Land JC commit. Right-handed hitting shortstop with a solid build, strong lower half. Offensively, strength through contact, aggressive approach; looks to drive the ball to the pull side with natural lift in swing. Went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Defensively, natural infield actions and feel for the shortstop position. Steady hands, athletic fielding position and quick exchange when needed. Accurate, above-average arm on the infield.

Giuseppe Mattera, OF, Pleasant Plains, 2018
Wiry, left-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, loose, whippy hands, creates bat speed and leverage in swing. Aggressive approach, not afraid to jump on the first pitch. Made consistent, hard contact; finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Defensively, glides in the outfield, gets good jumps and athletic actions. Also, a talented left-handed pitcher but did not throw in the game. 2018 two-way follow.

TJ Painter, OF, Pleasant Plains, 2018
Lean, left-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, high contact, barrel control type hitter. Bat stays flat and gets extension through the hitting zone. Went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk, RBI, run scored and a stolen base.

Cody Womack, RHP, Williamsville, 2017
Lanky right-handed pitcher. Repeats delivery, works fast, throws strikes, stays on-line and lands square. Arm works long and out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 75-80 mph throughout, slight arm-side-run. Curveball, feel, thrown in any count, worked 11/5, flashed depth, ranged between 65-69 mph. Threw a complete game. Offensively, right-handed hitter, went 1-for-3 with a single to right field.

Braedon Reed, West Central, 2017
Right-handed hitter had a big day at the plate. Went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Aggressive, pull approach. Compact swing and made consistent hard contact throughout. Balanced setup, rests bat on shoulder and minimal pre-pitch movement.

ILLINOIS CHARGERS

Matt Olsen, Brother Rice, 2018
Left-handed hitter with an average frame. Top of the order, contact type hitter, controls the barrel. Lined out to left field in his first at-bat and a bunt single down the third base line in his second at-bat. Balanced setup and short stride.

ILLINOIS INDIANS

Brooks Appelt, RHP, Glenbrook South, 2018
Big-bodied, right-handed pitcher. Came out of the bullpen for a one-inning stint. Full, over-the-head windup, high knee lift. Short, over-the-top arm action. Fastball, flashed life, straight action, sat anywhere from 77-83 mph. 2018 follow on the mound.

Robby Nehrke, Wheeling, 2018
Right-handed hitter with an athletic, projectable frame. Hit an RBI single to left-field. Balanced setup and some pre-pitch rhythm.

ILLINOIS SPARKS

Joe Payton, RHP, Brother Rice, 2018
5-foot-8, 140-pound right-handed pitcher with a live arm. Came out of the bullpen. Short, quick arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, life, thrown for strikes, sat 83-86 mph. Mixed two breaking balls. Curveball, thrown early in counts, 63-66 mph, 11/5 shape, occasional sweeping action. Also, threw a slider, more of a put-away pitch, sharper, tighter action, aggressive arm speed, 11/5 to 10/4 shape, 68-72 mph. High follow 2018 arm.

Zaid Walker, OF, Homewood-Flossmoor, 2018
6-foot-2, 185-pound, physical, defined, right-handed hitting outfielder. Showcased a strong arm from right field throughout the game. Two outfield assists on the day. Moving toward the line in right field, planted, spun and threw a strike to third base for his second outfield assist of the day. Offensively, bat speed is present. Went 0-for-2 with a walk.

Sam Jones, INF, Brother Rice, 2018
6-foot, 160-pound, lean, right-handed hitting infielder with plenty of room for continued physical development. Offensively, quality at-bats throughout the game. Looseness in swing, consistent hard contact, relaxed approach and look in the box. Drove a double into the left-center field gap. Finished the day 2-for-3.

Jake Zylman, C, St. Rita, 2018
5-foot-10, 175-pound, solidly built, strong, right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively, present strength through contact, aggressive approach; drove a triple into deep left-center field in his last at-bat. Defensively, above-average receiver, agile blocker. Pop times in between innings ranged between 2.08-2.19.

ILLINOIS STEEL

Joshuah Graves, C, Limestone, 2018
Solidly built catcher. Offensively, open setup, uphill bat path, flashed bat speed. Pull approach with power potential. Went 1-for-2 with a double to the right-center field wall.

Lakeside Legends

Logan Delgado, Antioch, 2020
Left-handed hitter with an athletic build. Hitterish look in the box. Worked long counts throughout. Bat stays flat through the zone, longer path. Balanced athletic setup, pre-pitch rhythm.

Northern Illinois Reds

Ben Bokus, LHP, Mendota, 2018
5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed pitcher with a lanky frame. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery. Fastball sat 79-80 mph with downhill tilt and occasional armside run. Curveball has 1-7 shape with depth and late breaking action at 64-67 mph for strikes.

PRO PLAYER CANES – NARANJO

Kamrin Hoffmann, SS, Huntley, 2018
Undersized, left-handed hitting, shortstop. Defensively, reliable hands, fields out front and fluid footwork.  Short arm action, high ¾ slot, average arm strength across the diamond. Offensively, some looseness in swing and controls the barrel. Hit a line-drive run scoring single to left field in his first at-bat; 4.76 on-the-turn.

Jake LaSota, C, Marengo, 2017
Athletically built, catcher, carries strength. Right-handed hitter. Controls the barrel and flashes bat speed. Balanced setup, pre-pitch rhythm and compact swing. Hit a line drive single up the middle in his first at-bat. Defensively, short, typical catcher arm action. Pop times ranged 2.15-2.22 in between innings. Quiet receiver, blocks well.

Pro Player Canes 

Jordan Goldstein, SS, Huntley, 2018
Small framed, right-handed hitting shortstop, Defensively has athletic actions. Arm is playable across the infield from a lower slot.

Noal Brouwer, 1B, Delavan-Darien (WI), 2018
5-foot-11, 155-pound left-handed hitting first baseman with a lanky frame. Balanced setup up at the plate with a short leg lift stride. Short swing path. Went 3-3 in game with an RBI double.

Keegan Garcelon, 1B, Huntley, 2018
6-foot-3, 175-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Short level swing path at the plate. Went 2-3 with an RBI in game.

RHINO (WI)

Adam Zeratsky, CF, Appleton North, 2018
Athletically built, right-handed hitting, outfielder. Offensively, flashed bat speed, a flat bat through the hitting zone and a gap-to-gap approach. Went 2-for-4 on the day with a double to deep left field and a triple to right-center field. Defensively, made a diving play in shallow center field, quick first step.

Jake Tomassetti, Appleton North, 2018
Right-handed hitter with a wiry frame. Had a big day for Rhino (WI). Present bat speed at the plate. Went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, an RBI, a stolen base and a HBP.

Davis Wilson, 2B, St. Mary’s Central, 2018
Right-handed hitting infielder. Offensively, uses the entire field and hits the ball where it’s pitched. Went 3-for-3 with a line drive to left field and a line drive to right field. Also, knocked in three runs, scored a run and stole a base.

TEAM DEMARINI

Jaxon Herchenbach, RHP, Hinsdale South, 2017
6-foot-2, 180-pound, athletically built, strong, right-handed pitcher. Started on the mound. Smooth rhythm, long arm action out of a high ¾ window. Fastball flashed late life at times down in the zone, arm-side-run and sat 83-86 mph. Breaking ball, thrown aggressively, worked 11/5, 74-75 mph. 2017 follow. 

Will Pudik, DH, Peoria Notre Dame, 2018
6-foot, 190-pound, strong catcher with a defined lower half. Offensively, present strength through contact and bat speed. Hit a line drive to right field in his first at-bat of the day; 5.08 on the turn. Relaxed, balanced pre-pitch setup and gap-to-gap approach.

Grant Lalla, 1B, Glenbard West, 2018
Physically advanced 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed hitter. Played first base and hit in the four hole. Offensively, easy bat speed, bat looks small in his hands. Ball jumps off bat. High ceiling offensive potential.

Michael Brewer, OF, Fort Wayne-Snider (IN), 2018
5-foot-10, 160-pound athletic, right-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, leadoff hitter; hit a double and a triple into the left-center field gap. Projects as a top of the order type bat, glides on the base paths. High follow 2018 prospect.

Top Tier DARNELL

Sean Sinisko, LHP/1B, Geneva, 2018
6-foot-5, 230-pound two-way prospect. Known for his ability on the mound, Sinisko started the day at first base. Large frame. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, uphill path. Pull side approach. Went 2-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Nick Baldassano, MIF, Plainfield East, 2018
5-foot-8, 160-pound middle infielder with a solid frame. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride. Line-drive approach, showed willingness to use all sides of the field. Went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Sean Hebreard, MIF/RHP, Lincoln-Way Central, 2019
5-foot-10, 170 pound two-way prospect. Offensively, tall setup, with a short stride. Went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Top Tier Dennison

Tyler Acosta, OF, Barrington, 2018
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a lanky, athletic frame. Balanced setup at the plate with a quick bat. Went 2-2 in game with a double and a single.

Erik Hedmark, LHP, Dundee Crown, 2018
6-foot, 173-pound left-handed pitcher. On the mound works from a low ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Works exclusively from the stretch with a drop and drive delivery. Fastball sat 79-81 topping out at 82 mph, attacks hitters with his fastball. Curveball has sweeping action at 68 mph.

Jonathan Cruz, SS, Elgin Academy, 2018
5-foot-11, 160-pound, wiry, athletic shortstop. Offensively, right-handed hitter, gap-to-gap approach and looseness in swing. Lined a double to right-center field in his second at-bat; 4.73 on the turn. Defensively, active, fluid feet and charges the baseball on the infield. Soft hands, clean exchange and some effort on throws; throws flash carry, plenty of arm strength to play shortstop. High follow 2018 middle infielder.

Tommy Wingen, INF, Fremd, 2018
5-foot-11, 150-pound, lanky, left-handed hitting infielder. Had a big day at the plate. Went 3-for-3 which included a double that short hopped the right field wall.

Matt Camp, RHP, Jacobs, 2018
6-foot, 175-pound, athletically built, right-handed pitcher. Came out of the bullpen, pounded the strike zone. Repeatable delivery, stays on-line, lands square and finishes towards first base at times. Arm works long and out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 80-82 mph, mostly straight action. Curveball, flashed feel, sat 67-69 mph and worked 11/5.

TOP TIER HOFFMAN

Chase Stanke, C/CIF, Marmion, 2018
Arkansas commit. Had a strong day offensively going 2-for-2 with a walk and three RBI’s. Behind the plate, showed above average receiving skills. Short arm action from Pop times clocked at 1.98-2.04 in between innings. Vocal behind the plate.

Brandon Romero, LHP, Elmwood Park, 2017
Worked two clean innings to close the game. Left-handed pitcher, solid frame. Short, quick arm from a high ¾ arm slot. Showed a three pitch feel, featuring a fastball, slider, and changeup.

White Sox Elite (Fox)

Jose Sanchez, CF, Hanover Central (IN), 2018
5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitting centerfielder with a small, athletic frame and some quick twitch athleticism. Hits from an open stance, sinks into load. Short swing path with good feel for the barrel. Hit a stand up triple in game, 4.59 on the turn. 4-3 groundout in game 4.43 down the line.

White Sox Elite (Maziur)

Michael Dunkelberger, LHP, SB St. Joe (IN), 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed pitcher with an average frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Slow paced delivery. Tall at balance point, loads up on back leg before coming to the plate. Works in line with home plate, good balance throughout delivery with a square landing. Fastball worked 81-83 mph in the first inning settled in at 79-81 mph in the rest of the outing. Curveball has 1-7 shape with tight rotation at 68-69 mph.

Giovanni Lopez, OF, Lake Central (IN), 2018
6-foot, 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder with a lanky, athletic frame. Hits in the leadoff spot, speed is his best tool. 4.18 down the line on a groundball. Hits from an upright, open stance with a short leg lift stride.

Zac Styka, C, Mount Carmel, 2018
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a strong frame. Had a big day at the plate with two singles and two RBIs. Hits form an upright, open stance with a low hand set. Short swing path to the ball.
