5.6.15 - The 6-foot-1, 170-pound sophomore has a solid build with some room to develop in both the lower and upper body. Quick, athletic feet were on display while nearly picking off a baserunner as well as fielding a few balls bunted in his direction. High ¾ arm slot, threw each pitch consistently out of this slot. Compact windup, also showed good balance out of the stretch. Lower half maintained the energy going towards the plate, didn’t over-stride or force any pitches. Clean, with a controlled and balanced delivery. Fastball sat at 82-85 with some occasional running action. Topped out at 86. Flashed a slider which sat 75-78 with some depth from both the wind up and the stretch. Could develop into a legitimate wipeout pitch. Impressive 2017 arm, with some more in the tank.
10.26.14 - 6-foot-1, 175-pound athletic right-handed pitcher currently ranked No. 8 in Illinois’ 2017 class. Hupe was up to 87 mph in the fall, and showed more power in game action with his breaking ball at 66-69 mph. His athleticism and clean delivery will make him one of the top right-handed pitching recruits in Illinois’ 2017 class.
11/2/13 - 6-foot-1, 165-pound, athletic two way player with very strong projectability. On the mound he works from a tall and fall delivery with easy effort, smooth rhythm, and clean direction. From the stretch it’s 80-82 mph. Showed above average feel already for his changeup, throwing it with fastball arm speed that creates quality arm side action, 63-68 mph. Threw his curveball with 10/4 shape, gradual break, 61-64 mph, for strikes. At the plate he hits from a balanced, slightly open stance, solid lower half, maintains excellent balance through contact. Swing rhythm is slightly choppy, uphill bat path, high quality extension, generates line drives with backspin and lift with consistently hard contact. Exit velocity off the tee was above average for his age at 73 mph. On the infield, his athleticism showed well, using soft hands, nimble feet, and playing through balls athletically.
