Committed to Illinois-Chicago out of Heartland CC.

6.18.15 - 6-foot-1, 210-pound outfielder, overall solid build, thick lower half with strength. Toolsy prospect. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick trigger, lower half can get involved more, good balance present. Strong bat, slight pull tendencies, uphill path. 93 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively plays with an over the top arm slot, strong arm, 90 mph arm strength. Advanced foot speed, 6.77 runner in the 60. Quick, choppy footwork, plays through the baseball.

4.16.15 - 6-foot-1, 210-pound right-handed hitting centerfielder, wide frame, strong lower half, strong, developed forearms, built like a running back, currently ranked No. 33 in Illinois, impressed at the plate and defensively with a plus arm from the outfield. Threw out a runner at first base from centerfield in a first and third situation getting the third out of the inning instead of throwing home. Short, quick, high 3/4 arm, one hopped the throw to first base on a line. Later in the game nearly threw out a runner at home from center one a fly to home plate. Hits from a square stance, utilizes a leg kick now, singled past the pitcher (jammed) in first at bat. Doubled to right (4.54 rounding bag) in second at bat. Also barreled a foul ball down the left field line in a previous at bat. Flew out to deep center to the track in third at bat on a hanging first pitch curveball (Provi is 350 to center). Gilbert has a football player’s mentality on the diamond, and is fun to watch with his raw tools. High follow prospect in Illinois’ 2016 class.

8/1/14 - Gilbert put on a show in batting practice with several towering shots to deep left field.  In the spring, he hit from a closed stance, with a right center field approach, and there were concerns over his ability to pull the baseball.  Gilbert utilized a leg kick over the three days, and he definitely looks to pull now, with a deep double to left in game three vs. Team Indiana.  He showed advanced arm strength from the outfield in the showcase and during game play at 88 mph, but he is a raw baseball player, due to also being a varsity starter as a frosh in football and ice hockey.  His 6-foot-1, 210-pound powerhouse frame is advanced for his age.  He also ran a 6.89 60, and will benefit from the more baseball he plays.

6/19/14 - Highly physical 6-foot, 205-pound outfielder, strong lower half. Offensively hits from a slightly closed stance, slight toe tap stride, minimal loading action. Well above average bat speed, quick hands, strong swing. Flashed pop to his pull side, easy swing, 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively plays through the baseball, showed a strong arm from the outfield (88 mph), played with carry, high ¾ slot, short arm action. Aggressive runner, 6.94 runner in the 60. Gilbert’s highly physical attributes should play well at the next level, his skill set is still raw but raw strength and power shows through in his game.

5.3.14 Currently unranked, but may prove to be one of the top 2016 prospects in the state of Illinois.  Physically advanced 6-foot-1, 210 pound muscular frame.  Athleticism is evident in all aspects of the game.  Played right field and pitched the final two frames, throwing mostly fastballs at 82-84 from a short, clean 3/4 arm action. Hits and throws right handed.  Future is in the outfield, but mound work showed off arm strength, which was impressive in pregame. Throws were online with good carry, and he attacked the baseball when fielding. Hits from a closed stance with a short, powerful line drive stroke. Up the middle/right-center approach. No wasted movement with hands, quiet balanced approach.  Lets ball get deep and whips barrel through the zone, definite power the other way. Two hits were both line drive shots to center and right respectively.  Only out on the day was a line drive smoked directly at centerfielder. Showed off speed by stealing two bags, and looks to be a plus runner, aggressive on the base paths, read ball in the dirt well. Also a varsity hockey and football player since his freshman year. Legitimate five tool potential, high 2016 follow.
