A trio of Jack Swaney (Rochester), Ryne Woods (Batavia) and Jack Cozzi (St. Edward Central Catholic) are physical left-handed hitters who put up some above-average metrics and warrant attention moving forward. Each recorded max batted distances at 366 feet or farther – Swaney’s high of 384 feet led the event; Cozzi’s round was a memorable one, as he showed barrel feel off a naturally lofted plane that produced an average batted distance of 276 feet, among the day’s best.
Positional Profile: OF/LHP
Body: 5-11, 180-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Balanced, open setup, knee-knocks into a long stride. Swings with intent, flat path with quick hands, worked on the barrel with authority, showed some hard/elevated contact to his pull-side.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 87.8 mph. 366’ max distance.
Arm: LH. OF - 90 mph. Loose, whippy arm, short circle that plays into a high 3/4 slot.
Defense: Athletic actions, plays through the ball in rhythm, athletic crow-hop.
Run: 7.79 runner in the 60.
Delivery: Stretch-only, high leg lift with coil into tall and fall delivery, toe lands closed at footstrike.
Arm Action: LH. Short arm circle, 3/4 slot.
FB: T84, 81-83 mph. Firm, mostly straight. T2196, 2087 average rpm.
CB: 74-75 mph. 1/7 shape, short break. T2254, 2131 average rpm.
CH: 73-75 mph. Sinking action, some fade. T1739, 1468 average rpm.
gave an intriguing look on both sides of the ball. The L/L 5-foot-11, 165-pound two-way started off his day with an impressive round of BP; staying long/loose through the zone with an uphill path, intent to lift the baseball with power to his pull-side, reaching up to 94.6 mph for his top exit velocity with a max distance of 369’. In the outfield, Cozzi moves with athletic actions, playing through the ball to pair with his strong arm, playing with low perceived effort and back-spin (T82 mph). On the mound, the southpaw works with a drop/drive lower-half, striding slightly across his body while landing closed. His arm plays with a long stab out of the glove before moving into a high ¾ slot. His fastball sat in the 79-80 mph range with some ride through the zone. He showed two promising off-speed offerings; the first being a short, 2/8 breaking ball with sweeping action, 67-70 mph. His second offering was a changeup at 73-76 mph, coming out mostly straight but fading slightly at times to his arm-side.
