4/29/13 - Oakton commit. Long athletic frame, shows footwork defensively. Athletic arm action across the diamond, shows arm action off back foot. Offensively makes hard contact, athletic swing, some bat speed, lacks timing.
2/19/12 McCabe is a lanky, athletic 6-foot-2, 165-pound two-way player who performed well in all aspects of the game. On the mound, McCabe has a quick, loose arm coming from a high 3/4 slot. His fastball sat in the 80-82 range with some late life. He also threw a 67 mph breaking ball, and a 71-73 mph changeup. He showed feel for all three pitches and used his whippy arm action to create natural arm-side run. Defensively, McCabe showed athletic feet, as he covered a lot of ground up the middle. He was clocked at 80 mph from across the diamond. McCabe continued to show his athleticism by running a 7.08 60.
The 6-foot-2, 160-pound McCabe is a projectable two-way talent who impressed with his athleticism and upside. McCabe ran a 6.9 60 and showed athletic feet and actions at shortstop, in addition to a solid arm across the infield (78 mph). He also demonstrated soft hands and played through the ball well. Offensively, McCabe demonstrated good rhythm and overall hitting mechanics with his line-drive swing. On the mound, the right-hander continued to impress with a quick, whippy arm action from a 3/4 arm slot. His fastball topped at 81 mph with some sink and run action. His 66 mph curveball had slurve action. As McCabe fills out physically, look for him to continue to add velocity.
