Central State 8

Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin (7-6; 5-1) crushed Lincoln 10-0 in six innings behind a one-hitter from Cyclone junior RHP David Jacob. Jacob struck out eight Railers and also hammered a two-run shot for SHG. Cyclone junior Carter Pranger chipped in with a pair of RBI.

Jackie Robinson North

Taft (16-0; 2-0) routed Mather 16-0 in five innings. Eagle junior Alex Rodriguez and senior John Guidone each drove home three Eagle runs.

Clemente (6-1, 2-0) blasted Lake View 8-1 on Wednesday. Wildcat sophomore Yerbis Arias went deep with two aboard for the big hit for Clemente. Wildcat junior captain Jeremiah Figueroa chipped in with a pair of RBI for the Jackie Robinson North leaders.

Jackie Robinson South

No.10 Simeon (12-3; 2-0) swept past Morgan Park 9-3 behind Oakland University-bound Shane Brown (2-1), who struck out seven Mustangs in his complete-game performance for the Wolverines. EIU-recruit junior SS Marshawn Taylor had two hits and a pair of RBI. Junior 2B Ro Coleman drove home two and Louisville-recruit Corey ray Rad two hits and an RBI for Simeon.

Jones Prep (12-1; 2-0) slammed Curie 12-2 behind a grand-slam from senior Eagle Jeremy Scott, who finished the day with five RBI. Eagle sophomore LHP Adrian Brizuela (2-0) struck out seven Condor hitters in his excellent six-inning performance on Wednesday.

Whitney Young (10-5; 2-0) defeated Kenwood 9-0 behind Dolphin Eugene Tabb. Tabb fired a one-hitter at Kenwood and helped himself with a pair of hits and RBI.

DuPage Valley

Wheaton North (9-5; 3-0) outlasted Naperville North 12-8 to complete the three-game sweep of the Huskies. Falcon senior Jake Schiber led the Falcon attack with three hits, including a double and drove home three Falcon runs.  Falcon junior Lake Bacher chipped in with two hits and two RBI.

Glenbard North (6-4; 3-0) swept its three-game series with West Chicago with an 11-1 victory in five innings.

Glenbard East (9-7; 1-2) slipped past Naperville Central 3-2 behind Ram senior RHP Pat Walsh (2-0). The Loras College-bound Walsh took a two-hitter into the seventh and finished with up with a five-hit complete-game gem.

Naperville Central (7-5; 2-1) made four errors leading to all three Ram runs being unearned.

Mid-Illini

Washington (15-2; 4-0) blasted Dunlap 15-0 in five innings behind a five-RBI day for Pather Mason McCoy. McCoy went deep for the Mid-Illini tri-leaders.

Limestone (11-2; 4-0) survived Canton 7-6 in nine thrilling innings in Bartonville on Wednesday. Rocket freshman Dom Johnson singled home the game-winner.

Morton (11-2; 4-0) kept pace with Washington and Limestone by blanking Pekin 4-0 behind a shutout from Potter senior LHP Jared Holloman (4-0). Potter Brett Bisping had the big blow for Morton when he ripped a two-run double.

Mid-Suburban East

Hersey (10-1; 2-0) blanked Prospect 7-0 behind a combined three-hit shutout from Huskies Brad Moree and Aaron DeGeorge.Hard-hitting Sean Reszetko went deep with a pair of Huskies aboard to lead the Huskies to the series sweep.

On Friday the PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in Arlington Heights for the MSL Crossover matchup between the Huskies and Fremd.

Rolling Meadows (10-3; 2-0) defeated Wheeling 6-5 on Wednesday to keep pace with Hersey atop the MSL East standings. Mustang junior John Burkiewicz had a big two-run double for the Mustangs. Mustang junior Dan Hendricks had a pair of hits and had an RBI. Junior Eric Lowe (3-0) pitched 5 2/3 innings for Meadows to pick up the win on the mound.

Buffalo Grove (6-9; 1-1) surprised Elk Grove 10-0 behind a two-hitter from Bison starting pitcher Jeremy Berger. Bison senior Eric Froehming had three hits and three RBI. Bison Jimmy Pinakidas tripled twice in his perfect 3-for-3 day. Elk Grove falls to 10-4; 1-1

Mid-Suburban West

Barrington (10-3; 2-0) defeated Conant 7-5 behind the big bat of Bronco junior Macray Poidemani, who had three hits and an RBI to help Bronco senior Jon Rogers improve to 4-0 on the mound for 2012.

Fremd (8-5; 1-1) defeated Hoffman Estates 6-4 on Wednesday.

NIC-10

Machesney Park Harlem (10-4; 2-0) rolled past Rockton Hononegah 9-3 in Machesney Park on Wednesday. Iowa Western C.C.-bound RHP Drake Robison improved to 4-1 with a solid seven strikeout, six-inning performance. Huskie senior Parker Anderson went 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead the MPH attack. Huskie leadoffman senior Dylan Elmer scored three runs for the NIC-10 leaders.

Southwest Prairie

No. 4 Plainfield North (11-1; 4-1) blanked Oswego East (See Sean Duncan’s story).

Plainfield South (8-4; 4-1) senior ace Julian Clouse (5-0) was at again on Wednesday. Clouse allowed three hits and needed relief help from Cougar closer Enrique Perez to preserve the Cougars’ 2-0 victory over Minooka (9-6, 3-2). Cougar juniors Rick Salazar and John Smith had RBI singles in the Cougars big two-run sixth.

Oswego (8-5; 3-2) defeated Romeoville 3-2 behind a one-hitter from Panther Mike Gerber (2-2) Both runs allowed by Gerber were unearned and he fanned seven Romeoville hitters. Panther Nick Wernke singled home the eventual game-winner in the Panthers big three-run second inning.

Southwest Suburban Blue

Joliet West (9-7; 2-0) stunned No.15 Sandburg 3-1 behind a one-hitter from Tiger junior RHP Jake Herron (2-3). Herron struck out six Eagle hitters. Tigers Alex Wesner and Larry Holman had clutch RBI singles to lead West. Sandburg (9-3-1; 0-1) picked up an RBI single from Eagle junior Dan Cronin.

Surprising Bolingbrook (9-4; 1-0) beat Joliet Central 7-3 behind a complete-game performance from Raider Steve Waldrop. Waldrop fanned seven Steelmen hitters. The Raiders received RBI from Brad Elmore, Tevin Brown and Andy Nordberg,

Lincoln-Way Central (11-4; 1-0) blasted Homewood-Flossmoor 10-4 behind red-hot Knight Tommy Charles. Charles cleared the bases with a three-run double for the big blow for L-WC. Senior SS Jack Krull chipped in with a two-run double for the Knights.

Lincoln-Way East (8-4; 1-0) rallied past Lockport 4-3 in eight innings in a thriller in Frankfort on Wednesday. Griffin Ryan Weitendorf tied the game at 3-3 with a clutch RBI double in the bottom of the seventh. Griffin Yoshi Haynie danced home with the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth, sending Griffin Nation in Frankfort home very happy. Lockport (8-5; 0-1) had RBI singles from red-hot junior Ron Sessler and senior Doug Matthews.

Southwest Suburban Red

No. 12 Lincoln-Way North (10-4; 1-0) beat Thornton 5-0 behind a three-hit shutout by Phoenix junior RHP Jake McCabe (3-1). McCabe fanned seven Wildcat hitters. Phoenix junior Reed Hero had a big two-run double to lead the Phoenix attack.

No. 14 Andrew (10-4; 1-0) blasted Thornwood 11-0 in five innings behind a four-hitter with a dozen strikeouts for T-Bolt senior Marcus Radz.

Stagg (5-9; 1-0) had a wild 14-12 win over Bradley-Bourbonnais on Wednesday. Charger junior Mike Farman had a perfect 4-for-4 day with a pair of RBI for Stagg.

Nonconference

No. 2 St. Laurence (16-1) hammered Louisville (KY) Ballard 9-1 in Louisville on Wednesday. Viking sophomore 2B Mike Kornacker doubled with the sacks full and senior 1B Brandon Mallder went deep into the Kentucky sky with a man aboard for the Vikings. Viking junior RHP Zach Lewis (4-0) struck out eight in his solid six-inning stint for STL.

Maine South (9-3) surprised No.6 Nazareth Academy 3-1 on Wednesday. Hawk senior RHP Rocky Saavedra fired a four-hitter at the Roadrunners. Saavedra fanned nine. Hawk junior Keenan Kelly had two hits and two RBI to lead Maine South. The game was the annual “Battle of the Milano Brothers” between Nazareth head coach Lee and his brother, Maine South head coach Bill. Nazareth falls to 12-1

No. 7 Marian Catholic (8-2) blanked Good Council (MD) 4-0 behind a three-hit six inning performance from WIU-bound Spartan RHP Robbie Nunn (3-0).

No. 11 Marist (10-3) defeated Suffolk (VA) 3-2 in a ten-inning thriller on Wednesday. Redhawk senior Mike Golden sent the sun-baked Marist contingent back to their hotel pool very happy when he singled home the game-winner. Golden’s (1-0) hit made him the winning pitcher as well.

No. 18 Benton (16-3) beat Goreville 7-4 on Wednesday. Ranger Ty Leffler had three more hits and drove home two more runs. Leffler now has plated 35 in 2012. Senior Jared Johnson had two hits and two RBI and senior Mason Childers (3-0) picked up the win on the mound fro Benton.

Normal West (11-4) rallied past Moline 5-4 in nine innings for the second time this season on Wednesday. Wildcat junior Matt James sent the Wildcat contingent home happy when he ripped a two-run single in the ninth for the game-winner. Junior Alex Jefferson was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI and fellow junior C Adam McGinnis continued to rip the cover off the ball in 2012. McGinnis had two more hits, his 24th and 25th of the season. Moline falls to 9-4.

St. Rita (9-4) defeated North Augustana (SC) 6-4 behind red-hot Mustang sophomore Jack Shepski. Shepski’s big two-run double led the Mustangs past the South Carolinians. Shepski finished with three RBI as the Mustangs won at the University of South Carolina (Aiken).

Manteno (17-1) defeated Watseka 11-1 in six innings on Wednesday. Sophomore Jack Liss (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Panthers with four scoreless innings, allowing one hit. Fellow sophomore Adam Schaeffer had two hits and two RBI and senior 1B Derrick Hosselton also drove home a pair.

And last but not least, tiny Morgan Park Academy (1-4) hit the win column for the first time this season. The Warriors, under the tutelage of Tom Drahozal and my good friend Scott Fredericks, defeated Seton Academy 8-2. The Warriors were led by sophomore LHP Jake Ellenby. Ellenby fired a two hitter at the Sting with six strikeouts and had a big three-hit day at the plate. Ellenby drove home a pair of Warrior runs. The two Seton runs were unearned and Ellenby picked off four Sting baserunners. 

Ellenby’s battery-mate senior Jared Bell had a perfect 4-for-4 day with two doubles and an RBI. Freshman 1B Julian Northcross chipped in with a pair of hits and a pair of RBI.
