7/20/16 - Verbally committed to Illinois-Springfield.
6.16.16 - 6-foot-3, 180-pound athletic bodied, left-handed pitcher. Comes from a ¾ window, loose arm action with easy effort. Tall and fall delivery style, stays in line, lands square, finishes athletically. Fastball, sat 81-83 mph. Curveball, slurve like shape, flashed sharp action, registered between 67-69 mph. Straight changeup, near fastball arm speed, sat between 72-74 mph.
2/14/16 - Lanky athletic frame, loose and projectable, 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed two-way player. Drop and drive style delivery, little effort, works athletically, squared landing. Arm action is loose, quick arm, ¾ slot. Fastball showed easy action, good arm side run, fell for the zone, 81-82 mph, touched 83 mph. Curveball has 1/7 action, some depth, 70-71 mph. Changeup has feel, thrown with arm speed, 72-73 mph. Left-handed hitter, balanced stance, slightly wide, longer stride. Path is flat, some length, hits with rhythm, on time, barrel aware and creates backspin. 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.48 runner in the 60. Defensively plays through the baseball with two hands, occasionally deep, fluid actions. Arm action is long and loose, high ¾ slot, 82 mph from the outfield.
7.15.15 - 6-foot-2, 185-pound left handed two-way player, strong lean build. Left-handed pitcher, delivery is athletic and repeatable, low leg lift, uses slide step from stretch. Arm action is easy, long and loose, ¾ slot. Fastball played with arm side run, 82-83 mph, touched 84 mph, showed feel for the strike zone. Curveball has 1/7 break, slurve type action, 70-71 mph, better from windup. Changeup has slight fading action, 72-73 mph. Left-handed hitter, wide setup, good lower half, good balance. Hits off of a firm front side, separates well. Good bat speed, line drive type hitter, flat path through the zone. 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively in the outfield showed clean average actions, arm played at 82 mph and ran a 7.16 in the 60.
7/14/14 - 6-foot-2, 165-pound lanky left-handed hitting OF/LHP hits from a wide, crouched setup with a long stride and long, level bat path looking to pull with 74 mph exit velocity. Defensively, threw 76 mph from the outfield from a long, high ¾ arm slot with some accuracy. On the mound, works from same arm slot with level shoulders and lower half staying on-line with home plate. Shows some rhythm in tall and fall delivery, producing 71-75 mph fastballs with erratic location. Throws slider with 2/8 shape hard at 66-68 mph and notched a strikeout wit it.. Straight change was thrown at 67 mph.
7/10/20: Coon presents a tough matchup for left-handed hitters with two effective breaking balls thrown for consistent strikes. The first is a flatter, sweeping offering at 76-78 mph that he’s able to repeat to his glove side. The other is a slower 70-71 mph curve-shaped pitch with more depth. Both spin in the 2300 rpm range. He complements his breakers with an 85-88 mph sinking fastball and a low-spin 78 mph changeup (1340 rpm). At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds with an all-stretch delivery and a three-quarter release poin, Coon has performed at a high level so far this summer with a 0.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 5.1 IP.
